Based on the bible verses above
, repentance is not only limited to repenting from sin, but also changing our minds with regards to any action.
Being Teachable
There is a general negative attitude towards repentance by some Christians.
However, repentance or repenting is spoken about throughout the entire bible. It is normal to repent and change our minds. Therefore, we must have an attitude that we will have to constantly repent. That is how we become teachable.
To be teachable you need to have the mindset that you do not know everything and might be wrong about a lot of things. This is mindset will help you to learn and grow.
As the years have gone by my understanding of the Bible has changed and I have had to repent or change my mind on the interpretation of certain parts of the Bible.
If we do not have an expectation that we will always need to repent, then we will never grow spiritually. We will never change.
Repentance is part of the Christian life
From my experience God does not always show our faults all at once, because we would become discouraged if He did. God slowly shows you areas in your life where you should change at a pace that you can handle and expects you to repent when He does.
Even after we are saved, we are tempted by the devil to sin and when we have sinned, God expects us to repent and confess our sins (1 John 1:9).
Example of the Pharisees
There is a danger when you do not see the need to repent or not to expect that you might need to in future. The Pharisees are a good example.
The Pharisees did not see the need to repent because they thought that they were sinless and perfect and did not need to change. They also could not repent and accept Jesus because believing in him and following him meant changing their beliefs, their understanding of scripture, their way of thinking and doing things.
We must have the mindset that we are not perfect and need to change. And if you think that you are perfect and do not need to change then ask your spouse, siblings, parents or children if you are perfect and they will tell it to you in your face that you are not.
Therefore, we will need to be continuously repenting whether repenting of sin or our actions.
We need to be continuously renewing our minds.
