When I joined CC about 5 years ago I was just done with a website where I argued with atheists all of the time over God and His existence. We were 10 or so Christians arguing with 10 or so atheists and the debates got heated man. What I saw during this time was that people's opinions are seldom changed. You can put fact after fact in front of people and they will ignore it. They might have felt exactly the same way about the Christians .

At the time I joined CC I just started to realize that Hebrew was actually this amazing language drawing all of these pictures explaining the Word of God and I step into fight after fight on CC until I had to stand back and say "okay, why are you here?". I left CC for about a year and are more active for the last couple of months but my attitude have changed. I now don't mind who is right or wrong because like with the atheists I know now that people will only believe what they want to believe. People will not change. That is why there were (and still are) so many religious wars.

So to answer your question, "How important is it to be right?"

When you argue with an atheist, his life might depend on it.

maybe they couldnt afford to go to classes or just felt too old to learn.
have you ever taught english? instead of being pissed, why dont YOU try and teach or volunteer your conservational skills?

obviously they are not that ok with not knowing the langauge, you got to try and put yourself in someone elses shoes sometimes miss.
have abit of empathy for other peoole life doesnt revolve around you all the time.
I said USED TO, you clearly didn’t read my post. I can say nope to that, they clearly like not learning English, when I was in High School, I heard people speak Spanish about 50% of the time, especially in the 9th grade, we have Spanish Billboards/Ads/TV Shows/Music Stations/etc. So to people, “why should they learn if Texas already bends downs and allows it?”. I know Spanish is apart of Texas culture, since Texas used to be under Mexico control back in the 1800s, but doesn’t change anything, we are part of the United States, and English is our main culture. Also, I would like to point out that we had English learning classes at my High School, and I just used google, and many resources for learning English for free came up, I’m linking these:

https://www.maketecheasier.com/best-sites-learn-english-for-free/

https://www.busuu.com/en/languages/speak-english-fluently

https://esl.yourdictionary.com/esl-for-students/free-esl-classes-online.html

Also, I learned by looking it up that some English learning classes do cost money, but I’m pretty sure the one at my library was free, I was going to hold a Pokémon TCG tournament and charge $5 as a entrance fee, so that I can get prizes like packs, but they wouldn’t let me. So that class I mentioned had to be free.

HI great insight you gave here and Yes you raised some important points.Whilst it is God who saves people Jesus gave us the great commission and some atheists hearts are darkened to the truth even when it's presented to them..they just can not see it at all..yet God has his unique way of opening the eyes of peopled minds. It makes you appreciate the grace of God more for it is by grace that we are saved...and yes an atheists eternity is as stake.
Gosh it can be real hard work trying to make someone see something...yet it all depends what it is..like if someone falsely accused you of stealing at work and you were gonna be in trouble with your boss...naturally one would do all one can to show that this isn't true..this did happen to me years ago at work.
I try to avoid having heated debates with other Christians where possible coz I begin to sense their motives are not quite right in how they are seeking to express their point of view...like more of a either superior,aggressive,patronising...point scoring kinda manner which I just havent got time for...👎👎
So good on you to stand back..👏👏
Save your energy..😊😊

some people always want to win.
Ive read that this personality trait, or character flaw, doesnt bode well, because its something narcissists and sociopaths have. Its probably why someone would shoot 50 unarmed people dead cos he didint like the look of them and thought he was right and they were wrong.
Yet a case of one being wise in ones own eyes...and yes some individuals may have a controlling trait where as you said they wanna win...gosh they must be continually feeling a sense of failure or inadequacy if then don't get the last word or dominate the interaction..🤷‍♀️

It is important to put forward what you believe is the truth.. It should be a desire to see the other person accept the truth.. But prove it??? Nope.. We are under no obligation to prove anything to anyone.. The Moving of the Holy Spirit does that work.. We are simply given the role as messengers and we should be concerned with giving the correct message and giving it in a way that The Lord would approve of..

There are some people walking around who think it is their responsability to succed in getting others to believe the truth.. And these people are more likely to get into the more negative pushy argumentive tactics because for them They fear failure to convince others is tantamount to failing God.. So they are more likely to use any tactic with the idea that the ends justify the means..
Hi yes there is a part that we cannot play which is God...all we can do is out part and pray and leave the rest to God.It can be quite humbling when in certain situations ones best efforts don't work and all you can think of doing is to pray for the person.
There are some situations where one has to seek to actually prove oneself as being right.Years ago an obsessive Christian woman accused me of sexual misconduct toward her which was totally untrue..and she began telling other people all kinda things about ME which wasn't true and despite myself and other challenging her she wouldn't stop.So what I had to do was to begin texing her and challenging her terrible behaviour and eventually she admitted telling lies about me in regards to those false sexual accusations and said God was angry at her for doing it ect..I kept those text messages as proof. She had no idea she was walking into a trap....God made a way to vindicate me..

Yes.. I agree.. we should pray for those who have rejected the message.. Maybe the seed we plant will grow in that persons life years after it has laid dormant within them..

TRUTH? lol WOW! Do you understand that proof is a mathematical concept and there is no such thing in the real world. Nothing can be known 100% If you are arguing with atheists about proof, you are arguing from a point of ignorance. There is no proof of anything theistic. The question is, do you have any reliable evidence? Anything besides stories, personal experience or hearsay? Do you have anything at all that can stand against critical inquiry? You are correct, you can believe anything you want to believe. If that is your standard, have a cookie and enjoy your life. If you actually care about what you believe and why, you might want to look at religiosity a bit more rationally. Any religion on the planet is going to give you the same gooey feeling that has bonded you to this one. That is how religions survive.

I don't really care to argue or to win arguments while trying to prove points. There are more relevant/profitable things for me to do in life, also there are some who just like to hear themselves talk. Let them. The best argument you can give to the self important is indifference.

Here's a few truths....you're a human being right?
You're not a Christian right?
I have seen the type of comments you post on this forum thus far and am I impressed?...NO..and belive me this is a definite TRUTH
Gooey feelings, hearsay ect can be related to even watching a great movie..
Becoming a child of God is much deeper more profound, more incredibly real than anything you will ever know..
One day may God open your darkened eyes to the truth.

Hi everyone I have recently been thinking about the fact that many times in life things happen where we can be misunderstood..labelled,be seen by others as being a particular kind of person..even having a discussion about the bible with others and feel your point isnt being acknowledged or even belived...or even when having a disagreement with someone.....making us want to prove to them that they are wrong.
It happens at times...in my life many times this happens. At times it's not nice to be falsely accused...misunderstood and be perceived as being wrong when you feel you are right.
The question I ask is this.. just how important is it to prove to others that one is right?Sometimes biblical discussions can even turn confrontational/argumentative ect just for the sake of proving that the other person or others are wrong and that one is right.we all naturally have a desire to be seen in the right light.Yet just how important is it to be vindicated everytime we feel the need to prove our case ect believing that we have to convince others that we are right?
I have seen some people go on and on and never let something go coz they are out to prove they are right. It can be a bitter taste for some to just let go/just let God deal with things/to decide it's not worth all the hassle to prove one is right ect.
So as Gods precious people what are your thought about this? How far would you go just to prove a point?..There is a natural scope to express oneself for sure...yet just how far would you feel is appropriate in doing that to show/prove one is right?
Point scoring, seeking to show others up as being in error, belittling comments I have had to witness in what should of been healthly bible discussions🤦🏼‍♂️.So it would be nice to hear you views on this matter..I know some have either been hurt by this kinda thing..me personally I have a cut off point...sometimes you can tell it's not worth bothering or that the dynamic would get heated or horrible...and I jus decide "nah..i an gonna worry myself with this".😊
Depends which topic.
It’s easy to let different opinions circulate and roam free until it starts affecting loved ones negativelly.

I could let things of a flat earth easily slip by, but things like abortion or genderideology sure wake the beast in me up. They are now affecting the young very early to learn them to deal with abnormalities, making our next generation abnormal. Maybe normal and abnormal are too abstract terms to use here. But something is reshaping the mind of our next generation and they seem to undergo a lobotomy in schools these days. Many blame social media, but looking at specific themes being debated in the class rooms; is sure to be looked at with suspicious eyes.

They get thrown into one lie after the other, how to deny the self in that when the Truth is shouting at you from above?

please dont get hung up on what langauge people speak if its not english.
God actually made all the langauges and we can worship him in any langauge, He understands them all.

He asks us gave us the gift of tongues, and its far easier to speak a language you just grew up with from birth. Its quite difficult to just pick up a langauge if nobody else around you speaks it or teaches you, it takes effort.

My grandma couldnt speak a word of english, but then she did not come to an enlgish speaking country as a child. I think nowadays its easier and people are making the effort, to reach out, but still people are too judging of others if they are not fluent or unable to speak.

Please dont do it. its a poor witness, espeically if you have never taken the time to learn someone elses langauage or lived in a non english speaking country.

even in english speaking countries where its all just english, people then judge others on their accent too! so you cant win.
You could be saying all the right words, but pronouncing them wrong.

I took some Spanish language classes in High School, I’m not hung up on it, it’s just a area I struggle with, you gotta remember I’m Asperger’s syndrome, so I think and see things differently from a normal person. My brain is wired differently, and I’m honestly okay with that.

I’ve just seen first hand the struggles it has caused, so that’s why I have such a strong opinion. I don’t remember a whole lot from my Spanish language classes, but it has given me perspective how hard it is to learn a new language. Honestly I’ll probably struggle to understand people for the rest of my life, and I’m honestly fine with that, I’ll understand in the best way I can, as an Aspergers person.

And to further add, my parents went on a vacation to Mexico with their friends, I couldn’t go because I needed to babysit the dog, and they did plan this vacation without me going along, which I’m fine with. We do “Adult Vacations” (Where my mom and stepdad go on a vacation together) and we do “Family Vacations” (Where we as a family try to vacation together). I think Mexican culture is cool, their food is AMAZING, Day of the Dead has some really cool artwork, and it would be cool one day to see a Maya Temple, but it doesn’t stop my struggle.

I know if I did missionary work in Japan (That’s where I would want to go, since I know a lot about Japan), I would take the time to learn Japanese or to constantly have “Google translate” on my phone. That’s my opinion and take on this stuff, if they wish to worship God in their original language, I’m not against it.

I just struggle to understand and ALWAYS WILL, I left a dislike cause I just couldn’t fully agree, I understand what you are saying, I do, I believe learning about a culture is a excellent way to share the word of God to that culture. I learned from my cashier, who is Mexican, she told me if you don’t marry by 21 years of age, you are considered a “old hag” in Mexican culture, which legit I found to be a very interesting fact. That same cashier, she speaks English, but if a customer who comes up speaking Spanish, then she starts speaking Spanish, she can “flip-flop” between the languages with ease.

Plus, this conversation has made me learn that English Teaching classes cost A LOT more than I thought they would, so thanks for disagreeing with me, so that I could learn something new ^_^

IMO, this works.
”P.F.G.”

Patience is key.
Patience is incredibly important when I am in a situation where I feel I am “right”.
I know if I wait long enough, the person who disagrees with my side will come to their senses, and just admit that...indeed...after all the hoopla... I was right.

Forgiving them is now important at this point.
I let them apologize over and over for being wrong and putting me through all of that unnecessary chatter, debating and bickering when they finally admit we should have just assumed or agreed that l was right in the beginning. Even before a single topic, word or point was laid down.

Generosity is the foundation.
I think of others first. I do give them fair warning from the start that it’s only gonna be painful for them if we proceed. I let them know if we continue on the topic at hand, it will be much easier if they just come over to my side of the argument right away, the view is so, so, so much more clearer.*
Try and spare them the hurt—it’s the decent thing to do.

Joking. 😐

Seriously, I don’t care if people think I’m right... anymore. I did at one point in my life, now l realize that if I go past my initial opinion,/post (2 or 3 tops) and continue into the third cycle of a circular argument, ...I’m not trying to correct, teach or share at that point, I’m obviously defending my ego. 🤔

I never understood why people debate on opinions? (If you think about it, most arguments are just defending our opinions?) Some things can be proven to confirm a side but most debates are simply arena sized opinion guarding events. Our views become our “truths” ( if we are indeed wrong—only God can correct that if we won’t budge) Admitting our views were or may be wrong hurts too much (who wants to admit to being a sucker?) its much easier to go into a chaotic defense mode, defending our stance with every bitty chunk of our being.

Doesn’t matter if we’re even logical at that point...we want the victory. 🏁

there are actually NO prizes for being right in Christendom.
There are if you admit to being wrong though!

Nobody ever says Lord forgive me I am right all the time. Jesus doesnt come for those who are righteous. He comes to those who have the guts to say they were wrong.

Reading the convo between Job and God give us a abit of insight here. Job was right about everything, he was so righteous, that he even outrighteoused God. Is that a word? Anyway. God kinda put him in his place and gave him more than before only when Job repented.

A song I think of every time I see this thread: "Take It Easy" by Anointed.

CHORUS
So what's it all for if you can't be right?
You're given one chance to live your life
Why not take it easy?
So what's it all for if you can't be true?
There's a better life in store for you
Why not take it easy?

Well I do completely understand how you feel, if there is one thing my family does to me more than anything is always see me as an incapable unknowledgable child they never listen to me they have the I am right your wrong and don't bother trying to tell them any different, I always feel so alone misunderstood like no one listens or cares what I think or say.

However I have learned more from being wrong than I have being right. It was only because I was always unheard that I learned to listen to others it was only from being in error that I learned where I need to work on listening patience and having the heart of a student not a teacher, even when I know in my heart I am right the fact is sometimes you can show all the evidenc e in the world and people still accuse you or say your wrong. People who always think they are right never listen or learn but instead of always trying to prove yourself right when you know when to shake the dust off your feet and walk away you then learn from that experience and you are better able to listen and take correction because you have seen and experienced first hand what happens when people always think they are right they don't know how to listen they cannot learn they speak far more than anything.

But God knows our hearts he blesses those who are in the right but have no need to prove it because the only person they care about knowing they are right is God. You then learn to take on the heart of a student and one like that makes the best teachers.
