Muddy Waters
I met her when she was sweet and tall
She had tan lines on her shoulders
The parking lot was wet with rain
She was standing with some others
And that was then and then was now
When I dreamed of us together
She had two kids whom she adored
Before she crossed those muddy waters
We’d move out west and build a home
She’d dig a little garden
I’d come home tired and build a fire
Life wouldn’t be a burden.
And that was then and then was now
Time changes all the planning
She went to school and married good.
She had two darling daughters
Twelve years have come and gone since then
She got sick and no one told me
But that was then and then is now
She’s crossed those muddy waters.
