I have watched Hellraiser too. I really only like the first film. I like the books way more by Clive Barker. The second book, which is completely different from the second and onward films, just came out a few years ago. It’s the Scarlet Gospel. But I liked the first book, Hellbound Heart way more.

My favorite book all time is also a horror novel and it’s by Donald Tyson, Alhazred. It’s a Muslim based meets Lovecraft horror book.
If you were baptised in 2009 then you should not still be watching horror brother; the Bible teaches us to not remain spiritually as babes and that we are to be holy as He is holy and without holiness we shall not see God. Please prayerfully consider what I’m bringing to your attention. The Bible says that we are children of light and we should walk as such; that we should have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness.

The Bible tells us to shun evil and have nothing to do with it.
When you allow such wickedness into your life and home you are giving it a right to come in, and it will cause havoc! You are allowing demons in!!
God wants His people separate from this because He loves them and He knows it is bad for them. He also requires those who love Him to obey Him.
Glory to God.
You’re so silly. Have you read the Bible? It’s full of horror stories. For a fact it even quotes creatures from Mesopotamian mythologies. Like Levithan and the sea monsters.......

I strongly disagree with your interpretation. Not to be rude but I’m not going to even entertain arguing about it.

So no. I don’t need the link. It would be a waste of my time as a Christian and as a person to read the delusional beliefs behind the mindset of whoever created a link thinking horror films, action films, or whatever is inviting demons in. It’s just the mindset of someone not educated in scripture and fear mongering based off of their own convictions. Has nothing to do with the Bible though.

My favorite genre of books and films are definitely horror by far. Often during halloween one of the things me and my local brothers and sisters in Christ do is bike throughout the more decorated neighborhoods, go on a haystack horror ride, read some things from the Bible centered around horror and finish it off at someone’s house watching a few horror films and eating pizza until we pass out.

Christianity often comes up in horror films. Though sometimes negatively as a silly Christian trope praying to god instead of running away or something lol.

I’m mostly into nature based horror films. But was wondering what was everyone’s favorite horror series, movie, or book? Anything in it able to open up a naturally flowing conversation about god?
I don't understand how one can reconcile filling their minds with entertainment that is contrary to the fruits of the Spirit and the call to be holy in our thought life. Do they silence the conscience that convicts them? How does that work?

They are terrific. The first one is straight horror and the second one is a bit dark urban fantasy with horror elements.
I just remembered two more. The Final Destination series, and the Underworld series.

Remember the movie, Twilight? First movie wasn't too bad. They should have stopped there.

I think if we can read the old testament and the horrors that are described there in detail, such as the she bear that ripped 42 children apart because they made fun of God's prophet Elisha and God saw that as meaningful punishment, suspending our disbelief while watching what we know isn't real is rather benign.

The bible mentions David seeing Bathsheba bathing on a roof. Does that justify you watching entertainment that plays out the graphic scenes of pornography voyeurism?

How do you get "the bible talks about Leviathan so it is ok for me to be entertained by watching psychopaths slaughter people?" This is not the mind of Christ.

The bible talks about a concubine being ravaged and killed by a group of men in a town of the tribe of Benjamin. Does that give you the ok to watch movies about such scenes for your entertainment?

When Jesus comes again, suddenly, will you be glad you were watching a Hellraiser movie? I think KNOW you would be ashamed. Better change your mind now before it is too late and you find yourself looking for oil but your lamp is out and the door is shut.

In my case I have no reason to feel bad. Not all all. There is no scriptural reason for it.

We have demons, witches, and ghosts all mentioned in the Bible.

We have Balaam a wizard mentioned in the bible.

We have the book of revelation full of horror symbolism in the Bible.

We have child sacrificing cults in the Bible.

We have fictional and fantastical beasts like Levithan , the sea monsters of genesis, the sevens head sea dragon god battled, and behemoth all in the Bible.

We have Jesus using parables centered around horrible things.

We even have the ancient Jewish exotic story of Song of Songs. If people don’t like horror they want like the Bible very much lol.

Where did I say Levithan equals psychopaths slaughtering people? If I was going to do that I would use one of the multiple war stories in the Bible where tribes capture other tribes and make the women concubines if they are virgins and murder all the men including the kids.... that’s the stories I would use not Levithan.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life

I was actually a big fan of the series. Book and film lol. I lived in cannon beach oregon for a while and that was one of the places Meyers lived and where parts of the film was made.

It isn't a sin to watch movies.
Movies are wholly fiction. People who perish in a movie got up after that scene and went on to live their life perfectly healthy, unaffected by what befell them in the fictional role they assumed.

Again, if we can be consumers of the old testament and read of the carnage and devastation described so graphically there, and the majority of which is either God's acts, or those committed by the Hebrews he commanded to act, if we can accept that God drowned every living thing in the deluge, including pregnant women, and then worship that God and justify all that he did in the old testament, I'm sure not going to apologize for watching an old Bella Lugosi flick while eating popcorn and drinking watermelon Perrier.

I know the horror on my TV screen is fiction. I also know the horror in the old testament is not.

I never checked to see where Twilight was filmed. Though by the topography I guessed it had to be west coast. Likely Washington state or Oregon.
Beautiful scenery.

It is a matter of fulfilling the lusts of your mind which is a lust of the flesh. It is so obvious I am wasting my time even explaining it.

You are compromising and listening to the voice of demons tell you "it's not a sin" : "you surely shall not die" and you are so far from the Holy Spirit you don't even miss Him.

It's a tragedy that I see all around me. TV and Movies have seared the consciences of once sensitive souls and they now sin with no SHAME.

They are tired of the Christian life because they have no joy. They have no joy because they have bought into a lie that holiness is not a necessity when IT IS.
Repent and pray that your conscience might be cleansed of the filth you have washed your mind with and ask the Lord to make you forget all the images and wicked videos that keep playing over in your mind when you recall them.

The Holy Spirit will not dwell with your wicked lusts. Pray as David prayed in Psalms 51 that your joy will be restored. If you Harden your heart and encourage people on CC to watch your filthy movies then you will be driven to darkness. Choose, death or life. Darkness or Light.

So for me, I'm not really into horror and get scared easily. I avoided Barnes and Noble for years cause I saw a scary movie cover. Also, had the misfortune as a young child to be afraid of my bathtubs, which got me to take showers instead. I saw this movie trailer on TV one day, and I barely remember it, but all I remember is that showed a guy taking a shower, and this woman in a "hidden like environment" is watching him on a monitor. But then the guy taking a shower starts screaming in agonizing pain, and she smiles as she sees this. Then I think the final part of the trailer was of something bad happening to a lady taking a bath in a bathtub, but yeah I'm not the best with horror, especially anything with creepy clowns and dolls.

However, I do know about horror movies, you see on YouTube I watched horror movie reviews from a youtuber named Phelan Porteous, or just Phelous for short. I haven't watched his horror reviews in awhile, but I just like learning. I loved learning that there is a horror thanksgiving movie with a killer turkey...yes that's a real movie and it's really stupid. I will never watch it, but it was fun watching Phelous making fun of the movie. Also, I like to tease movies that get too many sequels with saying: "Well, I guess they are going to space now", cause Phelous made a joke about Jason going to space, had to look it up if it was real and yep, he does in the 10th movie, and I just find that so incredibly funny, lol

I'm actually more familiar with horror anime, and the one that was any good, is called "When they Cry" in English (The Japanese name is so much better). It has a cool steup, because it's based off a sound novel (Like a visual novel, but their is more focus being put into the sounds) and it has "mini-arcs". Basically, the group of characters start off happy, someone goes insane and they die. But when a new arc starts, everything is resets, they don't remember what happen in the last arc, so it's like "Groundhog day (Haven't seen the movie, but I know about the whole "time resetting thing") inspired horror setup". So while I like the setup, I watched this a long time ago before I came to know Jesus as my savior. This show is great horror, but it does touch upon iffy stuff I think most people on here wouldn't like the concept of "being spirited away" in the show and it's roots deep in Japanese mythology and culture. Plus this show can get pretty gruesome and bloody. I've seen other horror anime, but this is the only one I remember ever liking a lot, probably because it was the perfect fit for my "edgy high school self", lol.

But yeah that's about as much knowledge I have on horror, Phelous's horror reviews from what I remember are pretty great, but he does bad language here and there sometimes, so leaving that as a warning if anyone wanted to check out his horror reviews.

Edit: I forgot to mention for videogames, definitely know about horror games, but haven't played any.
Have you tried the crunchy roll app? On roku I use it along with a few others and they have tons of anime.

I do agree you are wasting your time because I’m not even bothering to read your posts because I think it’s ridiculous. You could just stsrt a I hate horror thread and let others who are Christians e joy the horror that god allows others to come up with.

Yeah it was mostly filmed between Forks and Cannon Beach Oregon and a few scenes in Portland. Maybe a few other places but that’s the majority of it. I was a volunteer with the bird conservatory there at the time and we had to post people 24/7 for a while to keep fans from coming onto the beach and digging up sand, taking rock, cutting down trees from the film and all kinds of crazy annoying stuff.

I had crunchyroll and VRV, but I don't feel comfortable with them now because they helped me to slip back into my old habits of watching soft-core porn anime and homosexual anime. I know I can just choose to scroll on by, but they sit in front of my face cause I mainly use the app, and until there are better ways to hide that stuff on crunchyroll and VRV, I'm never using them again cause I'm not spiritual mature enough to resist old habits coming back up. So I'm just watching what's on my shelf cause I actually enjoy collecting anime Blu-Rays/DVDs and Manga. Recently been watching Gundam, the Universal Century timeline universe stuff, but I'm taking a anime break cause I'm burned out right now.

That's crazy. But there again that is the very definition behind the word fan, isn't it. Fan=Fanatic. Sad when so many think to example the fanatic part and can't just simply appreciate good acting or a good film and leave it at that.
I can't imagine what actors suffer in their private lives from the strange and odd people in the world. They're paid huge money to pretend to be someone else, but they're not paid enough to suffer what many of them do at the hands of fans.
