What is the purpose in God changing Jacob's name to be called no more Jacob, but to be called Israel?

Jacob = Ya'akov = "he who deceives." Not a very good name to have.
Israel = "wrestles with God". A better name. And besides, he did.

The reason Jacob was named Israel is outlined in Genesis 32:22-28. As far as what that says, that is up to people's interpretation.

Personally, I don't see how anyone could ever wrestle with God and overcome God, but that's what it says.

After God changed Jacob's name to Israel in Gen 28:33, does the name Israel in the scripture thereafter have reference to Jacob or the nation of Israel?

Both and even in the New Testament, it refers to believing Jews...

Galatians 6:16 (KJV) And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

The foundation is the first born representing the Son of man, Jesus

In that parable. Its not literally wrestling with God and overcoming God. But God working in mankind rather than wrestling against flesh and blood.( self).

Flesh and blood did not reveal the vision .According to the promise God renamed his bride Christian after the reformation .A more befitting name of the bride the beautiful city Zion made up of "all the nations" a company of.

Genesis 35:9-11 King James Version (KJV) And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him. And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

A nation and a company of nations = Inward born again Jew and gentiles. Putting no difference between the two purifying the hearts of all men by a work of His faith that works in those who do believe. What God calls one Satan divides.

You have conflated several unrelated ideas and misinterpreted the passage being discussed. Jacob's wrestling has nothing to do with "the firstborn" nor with "Christians".

Jacob actually wrestled with "a man" before crossing the river. It wasn't a vision, and it's not a parable. The man with whom Jacob wrestled did not identify himself when asked. However, the text tells us that Jacob wrestled with God, and that is what it means. We know that it was neither a vision nor a parable because the man touched Jacob's hip, dislocating it. He walked with a limp the rest of his life. Visions and parables don't give real flesh-and-blood people permanent physical disabilities.

God was still brining prophecy as one of the manner brining prophecy through dreams .

God has no form. When Jacob he woke up he smelled the bacon.

Real spirits are not flesh and blood. The Spirt of God.(God is Spirit) He . . .can create a limp . "let there be and there is" Just as easy as let there be light. Or rise up and walk talking away infirmaries the work of the gospel .

Christian(resident s of the city of Christ named after her husband and founder Christ. It is the last new name he called his wife a more befitting name for the bride of all nations. previously called her Israel

His tongue has the power of life and death . "Let there be life" and it was good.

You will not find if you refuse to search out the meaning of the parable. Par for your course, a hole in one .No need to rightly divide the parable. The they simply remain parables without the hidden understanding needed to teach us how to walk by faith. .

The subject matter is first born . why do you think Jacobs mother helped Jacob deceive Isaac by usurping the first born Esau? So that Jacob and Esau could wrestle for it? Was it Esau the first born like a thief in the night hat did wrestles with Jacob and cause the limp?

NONE of this is relevant. Read the text (Genesis 32:24-32)! It wasn't a dream. Jacob didn't "wake up"; he did not sleep! Jacob actually wrestled with a flesh-and-blood entity, not with a spirit.

Your stubborn insistence that everything is a parable leads directly to you making wacky interpretations such as these.

Jacob and Israel are used interchangeably for the nation of Israel (the twelve tribes).

There is one instance where Paul calls the Church "the Israel of God" (which includes believing Jews and Gentiles). But that is an exception (Gal 6:16).
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

As to the meaning of "Israel" it means "prince with God and men": And He [Christ] said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. (Gen 32:28)

It should be noted that God has an eternal plan and purpose for the Church AS WELL AS redeemed and restored Israel (on earth). This is because of the Abrahamic Covenant, which is multi-faceted.

Jacob/Israel is representative of God's elect. Rom 9:11, For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, THAT THE PURPOSE OF GOD ACCORDING TO ELECTION MIGHT STAND; not of works but of him that calleth.

Rom 11:26, And so all Israel (not the nation but Jacob/Israel) shall be saved; as it is written, there shall come out of Sion the deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob/Israel.

We have to consider, that whenever Israel is mentioned in the scriptures, in lot of cases, it has reference to Jacob/Israel.

The twelve tribes (sons) of Jacob are listed in Gen 35:22-29. They are not all Israel, which are of Israel Rom 9:6. Gen 36 lists the sons of Esau. Both Esau's descendents and Jacob's descendents make up the nation of Israel. Jacob's, whose name is now Israel, descendents make up God's elect people, his church, Rom 9:11.

That's a given. Only believing Israel FROM THE TWELVE TRIBES is and will be Israel.
Gen 36 lists the sons of Esau. Both Esau's descendents and Jacob's descendants make up the nation of Israel.
Where did you get this BIZARRE notion? Esau is Edom, and Edom was the bitter enemy of Israel.
Jacob's, whose name is now Israel, descendants make up God's elect people, his church, Rom 9:11.
You are THOROUGHLY CONFUSED. The Gentiles -- which are not from the twelve tribes -- are today the majority of the Church. The Jews (12 tribes) are the minority.

Replacement Theology is false and perverts Scripture. Take some time to properly understand what this is all about.

"Jacob" means 'he grabs the heel'

"
Israel" means 'God fights'

the path to the meaning goes through here:

He shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise His heel.
(Genesis 3:15)

just because the generations of Edom are recorded doesn't make them Israel . .

It means that God has a new purpose for Jacob according to His will so His name must be changed.

Like Abram became Abraham, and Abraham's wife Sarai became Sarah.

And Saul became Paul.

And Simon was given Peter as a surname, and became known as Cephas.

Abram changed to Abraham, a big player in the purpose of God.

Jacob changed to Israel, a big player in the purpose of God.

Simon changed to Peter, and to Cephas, a big player in the purpose of God, for Peter is the first person added to the Church after Christ.

Saul changed to Paul, for he is a big player in the purpose of God that he preached unto the Gentiles.

Lucifer had his name changed to Satan to identify his new nature of evil.

Jacob's name of Israel has nothing to do with the nation of Israel. Yes, the Gentiles were integrated into the church, in which, Jacob is a representative of. J

I would suggest that you do a deeper study of the scriptures that use Jacob as Israel,
Jacob, as Israel, is made up of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. Rev 5:9
