Why does it please God when we worship and adore? Does he have an ego like humans do?

I've been told that it pleases God to be worshiped and adored. Why would he want/need anything from outside of himself? I'm truly confused by this.

Hello and Welcome to CC, Rolene...

Think of it this way... God is love, and His actions and purposes are framed within His love. He is pleased when we worship Him because He knows that it is good for us to worship Him (and very bad for us when we worship other entities or things). Ego has nothing to do with it; if it did, He would not be worthy of it. Our highest purpose is to worship God.

Imagine, if you will, a master builder of custom cars. He crafts nearly every component in his machine shop, looking forward to the day that he fires up the engine and drives it for the first time. Finally, that day comes, and he turns the key. The engine roars to life, he applies the clutch and shifts the transmission into gear, and gently applies pressure to the gas pedal. The car drives like a dream, and its maker is immensely pleased, not because it is taking him where he wants to go, but because the car is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

So it is with us when we worship God.

Relationship. Love. Thanksgiving. Greatfulness. He pours out his lovingkindness on us and we thank Him with a greatful heart. He did not have to create us. Aren't you glad he did? Tell him about it. :)

Hi Rolene... and welcome. :)

God forgot His ego when He came down, abandoning all the glory and inhabiting a common mortal body, and died, so He could have us.
I am unaware of any Scripture that God wants worship and adoration for the sake of egotistical self satisfaction.
Such motivation is really foreign to God's beautiful character.
Praise is the highest expression of happiness. God wants us to enjoy all His provisions for us, physical and spiritual.
Some people imagine God like He is some vengeful old man, and this is a big loss because it prevents them from knowing Him.
God never changed. God's fingerprint, since He created the universe, always was and is the same loving character that Jesus showed when coming on earth.
He does not need things from us:

Psalm 50:12-13 If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world is Mine, and the fullness thereof.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

Hosea 6:6 I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice,
the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

This is to be understood, I want your love, I want you to know me, I want you, not your gifts (as if we could possibly offer something to God that He couldn't snap fingers and get it Himself)

God is love. And the one who loves, he wants to be forever where his loved ones are.

Hebrews 10:5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You prepared for Me.
1 Corinthians 12:27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
1 John 4:16 And we have come to know and believe the love that God has for us. God is love; whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

He is love and all that It entails. We are the egoists in the picture. He, being perfect, is the center of all praise and worship for nothing is that is not of Him, and we must spend our time here searching out just how blessed we are to be His object of Love.

Man is going to worship somebody-either himself, other gods, or the True God who alone is worthy of worship.

Focusing on God and thus His perfection is a Good thing for us to do.. It is not about God needing worship and praise as if God suffers from the need of an ego trip.. It is for our benefit to spend some time focusing on and acknowledging the awesome perfection that God is..

Same thing in regards to prayer.. We receive the benefit from praying to God..

It's not about what He needs. It's about what we need — to put our focus on His eternal steadiness rather than toward love of false human answers and fleeting worldly comforts.

God does not operate like humans do when they exalt themselves, for He is God and does not need to do that, and said that people are nothing, and the nations less than nothing when compared to Him.

Shall an elephant brag when he steps on an ant.

Shall a man in the strong man competition brag if he beats a baby.

Shall Albert Einstein brag because he is smarter than a 5 year old.

Heb 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Heb 12:10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

God works with us for our profit.

And we give parents honor, and reverence, so we do the same with God, for it is called obeying, and honoring authority.

Also it is right to worship God, and give Him praise, for He created all things, and we belong to Him, and He is greater than us.

If you look at men in the strong man competition they are usually funny, humble, and nice, and have respect for each other in competition, because there is not too many people that strong, so they do not need to express bragging, and a lot of them will not like it as if it is a cut down to them personality wise to brag and boast.

It is usually people that are not like that who brag, and like to exalt themselves to people.

There are exceptions to that, but most people who are highly intelligent, or strong, or both, will not brag or boast.

How much more would God not brag and boast because He is greater than us for it would not make sense to brag and boast when He is so great compared to people that He called less than nothing.

It is only right to worship God, and adore Him, and not because God has an ego that he needs us to do that to make Himself feel better when God is great, and bathes in peace, love, and joy, that is great.

God said He wants us to partake in His holiness so that His created beings can feel what He feels, be joyful like He is joyful, and experience eternal life, and the world of God, and not because He needs us to worship, and adore Him.

It is right to worship God for we would not be lying for He is great, and greatness that is boggling to the mind, and He deserves adoration for we should love Him, and His kingdom is love.

Eze 18:23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

Eze 18:32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

The world rejoices in war, and fighting, when they win, but God does not do that for He has no pleasure in those that perish, and does not brag when He defeats people.

He made us in his image so I guess it pleases Him for us to acknowledge Him as our creator.

I guess its the same reasons why parents have children, or why artists create works of art.
Its not so mucn about God wanting or needing us as its about US needing and wanting God and is the very least we can do is give Him thanks...that is all that we can do really.

God did create us solely for His pleasure so I think worship and adoration is like the icing on the cake.

Father God, in Jesus name we pray. Please ease Rolene's troubled heart and mind of all doubts and obstacles the enemy put before her, so that she can truly know the truth about Your character, and come to fully know who You are. Bless her life in every way and draw her with Your lovingkindness. You promised us that if we keep knocking it will be opened. Let this unfailing promise come to pass for Rolene. Amen

In agreement with the truth that God instructs us to worship Him because that is best for us. God is Holy and He is deserving of our wholehearted praise and worship of Him and Him alone.

I can think of only one thing greater than me worshipping and praising God ... and that is to worship and praise God with others.
