Can someone tell me, back in the old days when Jewish couples got married, was the engagement a period of two years and then marriage or up to two years and then marriage. Meaning they could get married before a two year engagement was complete? All answers receive a free virtual coffee lol.

There was no time limit. It all depended on the father. But the unwritten rule is it never took longer than two years, but it could be a day if you could build a sukkah or bride chamber in that time
Remember the bride had to set herself aside and prepare for the groom to come and fetch her. When he arrived the second time he never went into her house. His friends rode out in front of him making noise and the bride would ran to the groom. He would then basically grab her and ride with her to the wedding ceremony. She had to be prepared 24/7 because he could arrive at 12h00 at night and she had to be ready.
