I still love to buy music (now a days on iTunes) I think it's funny that my family and friends think it's weird that I still buy music, you should see the shock on their faces lol!

Don't get me wrong, I love to use Spotify but really, using Spotify means we don't own the music we are just renting music. Although it's great to use for checking out new music.

I only buy Christian music. If I listen to secular music then I use Spotify. The secular artists have enough money. We should support Christian music. They need the money with their hard work :)

I know people say it's way cheaper to use Spotify. Remember that saying? You get what you pay for? It's true for Spotify. The sound quality is okay but I find when I buy the music I like on iTunes. The sound quality is way better.

So, do you buy your music?

appreciate listening to His Words spoken through our songs...

I do still buy music. I have never used Spotify and don't know anyone who has. If I want to check out something new I find it on YouTube to see if i want it. I currently have 4000+ albums. Bandcamp is a great place to purchase music.

Why would someone want to pass on music though? I never share my songs that I purchased, I just tell them to go search it up and if they want it they can purchase it. You do own the purchase for personal use.

Why would someone want to pass on music though? I never share my songs that I purchased, I just tell them to go search it up and if they want it they can purchase it. You do own the purchase for personal use.
Why? Because when you purchase something, you are then the owner of that thing and should then be able to give it to whomever you choose. Like Subhumanoidal above, he has 4k LPs? He can give them to anyone he wants. If he had children, he could pass them on to them. Not so with the music you purchase. If you don't care, that is one thing. Others do care about the issue.

I see your point but we will agree to disagree :) I do agree with that law that it's piracy. They want everyone to purchase the product. Same thing for video games and movies. As I mentioned in my original post that we should support Christian musicians as they work hard to produce good music. Then they can make even more music when we buy their songs to listen to.

I buy CDs whenever I can. Sometimes I buy digital downloads but it's rare. I'll take free downloads.

I agree. Why buy something when you can just download it for free? I can understand if people really like a song and want to pay to support a particularly skilled artist, but most of the money goes to godless corporations, anyway.

Especially with things like Windows, I never pay. I know it's not a song, but why would anyone ever pay for a faulty product? Also, look at the mess Bill Gates has used all his ill-gotten gains for. Now he's trying to poison the entire world with his vaccines. Imagine if no-one had ever paid for his rubbish software? For a start, Windows would never have even gotten off the ground, and to conclude, there'd be no coronavirus, 'cause Bill would still be pushing his buggy software for a living instead of trying to get the whole world chipped.

Is it legal to download music free? , if so , where could I download from , looking for some Christian music for my granddaughter...

If we don't buy it, I believe it is theft to download it, unless it is something copyright free.
I either listen from the artist's channel on YouTube so they can get revenue, or buy it from their page, Bandcamp or whatever if I especially like it and keep coming back to it.
Don't really listen to non Christian music at all at this point, except for instrumental stuff. The lyrics do not impress me anymore almost never. I must be getting old. Even Christian lyrics can be bland and vanilla and not come across as heartfelt. I have come to the point that I can't stand 99% of music it's like annoying nail to the chalkboard. It sucks. Used to love music.

No but I will get a youtube subscripton somewhere in september or october.

It is the only social media platform I use. I listen to all my music on youtube and use it to watch sermons and debates.

Also bear in mind what you are agreeing to before downloading specific software. They are watching through your lenses before you even know it while having given them permission. I duct tape all my cameras and don’t have a smartphone.

I love music, but I haven't heard anything in the last 15 years that I want to buy, although there are some newer songs that I like. I don't buy songs though. If I want to hear one I just go to youtube. I think the last CD I bought was either the first Maroon 5 CD with "She Will Be Loved" on it, or Five for Fighting.

Now I watch my movies and docs on my daughters Prime time...

It is a tad ridiculous. Some of the DMCA laws are absurd and unenforced. Some of them seem to have been unenforceable and yet are still perpetrated on Americans as "laws".


regarding piracy
It is difficult to view theft the same way when something exists with an inconceivably large (time is limited) amount of copies that cost nothing to produce other than hosting and internet. Certainly it costs something due to lost revenue for producers but the largest movers in the field have profited to the point where it seems silly to take up their cause.


Sharing new music for free is the best way to get it out. Most people aren't going to pay $1/song for something they don't know anything about. Some don't even like listening to it on YT first....Besides, it gets buried.

Myself I'm not the biggest fan of YT for music unless there is a single I'd like to hear.

There are quite a few ways you could support a struggling Christian artist and active distribution of their material with an option to donate should work out well enough if the Lord is truly in their work. He moves people all the time to support people that are sincere and I'm not worried about them. If they need help, they can reach out on whatever platform they are on. A little blurb about financial needs of an artist isn't unreasonable...but of course that depends on the person. Some people are in it for the money with "leanings" toward ministry and that probably comprises a large percentage of Christian music.


I "could" technically break the law buying CDs at thrift stores and yes I still buy CDs occasionally. A law that isn't enforced in the slightest? Even me buying classical CDs (which the music itself is open source like the KJV) the recording is copyrighted. If I buy a bunch of CDs and rip them and then redonate so that others can enjoy it as well...who gets the $2? Some ministry or another. It seems like that spreads enough around frankly.

The FIRST recording must have been purchased legally. If you resell it after that almost NONE of that money goes to the original artist. Taxes go to the Fed until it is destroyed. Every resale. I think they have some allowances that some goes to the recording industry but someone would have to do some research. This is a giant topic and I realize that you were just asking a simple question so I digress.


MOST of my music listening is comprised of radio. I just looked it up and apparently you can legally record what you hear on the radio. This isn't considered piracy because it is an analog recording...the law is really wonky on a lot of this stuff. Usually I get free or almost free music. I have started making lists of artists I am interested in and obviously as financial situations are likely to change, I may consider underwriting them and popularizing radio a bit.

There are man's laws, and there are God's laws. Stealing certainly is a sin. Sharing is the opposite, and is not a sin.

Man likes to call copying software "piracy", and "theft" and "stealing", but man has a bad habit of taking what God calls good, and calling it evil, and taking what God calls evil, and calling it good. Look at abortion and war if you don't believe me - murder with man's blessing.

Now, let's look at duplication of software. Is duplicating software depriving anyone of their software? No. Is it depriving anyone of anything? No. Then how can it be considered stealing or theft? Or even worse, piracy - "Avast, mateys! Arrrrrrr!" ? Lol. That's just propaganda. Taking something, and duplicating it, is part of man's natural industriousness, and is done for a wide variety of things, from chairs, computers, cars and to produce any number of items. It's called sharing, and is why we can enjoy the standard of living we have today. I certainly don't consider it stealing. Is it stealing to use a bed, simply because you were not the first one to think of the idea?

What is stealing (or worse), is forcing everyone (or anyone) to receive to a vaccine or microchip in their bodies so they can be controlled, and preventing them from travel or working or worshipping until this microchip is inserted. This is what Bill Gates has done with the money he charged people for what should have been shared. If his (faulty) software had been shared, rather than purchased, Bill would never have got powerful enough to become the tyrant he is today - a real "pirate", and nothing like those who share software and music.

You villify those who want payment for the hours of time and money spent developing something. Yet you no doubt expect to get paid when you go to work.
Justify your theft by saying it's not God's laws, but mens, despite that God instructs people to obey the laws of the land. In your attempt to justify theft you actually proved your theft.
Your arguments all rely on you reframing everything to a manner that makes it easy for you to tear it down. If you have to jump through so many hoops, play so many word games and change so many realities to make your view be the right one, then your view is wrong.
