Church and Politics

Please answer the poll and explain your choice. I chose "It doesn't matter, but the pastor should keep his views to himself." However, in my experience with multiple churches, while the pastor may not overtly state his views, I usually find that the pastor preaches along political party lines, which I also find troublesome/ off-putting. I also find that the pastor might try to pander to the congregation, which may be majority conservative or liberal, which I find off-putting. Politics should stay out of churches! Church leaders should not endorse politicians. What usually happens is that the church leader usually picks and chooses views that align with the political party, and disregards or gives less weight to other topics. There are many debates/books written on conservative Jesus versus liberal Jesus.

I chose the same as OP.

I expect when I hear a sermon, have prayer, or need spiritual counsel from a pastor to hear the word of God, not political or partisan views.

Unless I bring up the topic (which I dont really do in general) Im not really that keen on talking about politics, although everyone has their own view of how govts are run of course. We are human. But who is REALLY in charge of our lives...humans...or God?

Which ideology does Scripture most agree with? Conservative or Liberal?

I would think that if any Pastor was preaching the Gospel, then their Sermons would most likely reflect the Christian Conservative Political views.............

Now, as a Rule of Man..............Pastors are not allowed to express political beliefs from the pulpit.........and I would expect a Pastor to abide by the Law of man since Scripture says for us to obey the Laws of man for the glory of God............sooooooo

the landed gentry vs the great unwashed masses of COURSE a pastor is gonna be on the side of the landed gentry staus quo you think its a given.

but it might surprise people once in a while that they might be wanting to be onside with the great unwashed in that they might be willing to spare a thought for their condition. oh but that would offend all the already washed ones.

yes, we are to obey the laws of the land, but we are to 'never entangle' ourselves in the affairs' of this world,
particularly if they draw us away or into thinking that they are MORE important than God's Ways, which will
always cause us to stumble and be out of His Will!!!
if we allow ourselves to do this, then we should 'question' our 'allegiance/loyalty to our Saviour...

I believe pastors should only say things that edify people's spiritual lives. To talk about his particular views, does more harm then good. Just imagine if the pastor says things the congregation does not agree with, it would take things off topic to say the least.
