Hello fellow believers. Being new here, I wanted to get to know the members and one way of doing that is to get a general consensus on what we all believe. It is just a tool for taking a sample of views from a group of believers to identify where we agree on the basic tenets of the Christian faith.
I have compiled an informal poll/survey with 20 questions that I would so GREATLY appreciate a response to from whoever wishes to participate.
The first half is simple yes or no questions about what you truly believe. The balance is questions that require something other than yes or no.
A simple few sentences will suffice or even quoting the scripture you feel directly applies to what it is you believe. You may also feel free to expound on any question/topic by private message if you wish so as not to get the thread off track. Simply ignore any questions you don't know the answer to or don't wish to discuss. The one thing I ask, at this point, is that you reply from your heart. That you answer only what you are sure of. If you don't know, say "don't know". Please do not go dig for answers on bible gateway before replying. This must be things that you have already studied and decided as Truth, what you believe to be true.
His Word should be written on our hearts.
Please know that I am only trying to gauge what it is the "church" believes as a whole.
They say that there are 22 million 'so-called' Christians in the world. Yet so many are unsure of what they believe and there are so many doctrines
being taught with various applications in Protestant and Catholic churches around the globe. So I would like to take samples of some communities, online and in local congregations. (I will be mailing this to pastors of local churches as well.)

Peace and Love and Blessings to all of you in the name of the Messiah.

1. Do you believe Christians go to Heaven when they die?
2. Do you believe unsaved sinners go to Hell when they die?
3. Do you believe that Jesus died on a Friday?
4. Do you believe that God desires Christians to celebrate His Son's birthday annually?
5. Do you believe that it pleases God for Christians to commemorate the resurrection annually on Easter Sunday?
6. Do you believe that Sunday is a Holy Day?
7. Do you believe the earth is 6000 years old?
8. Do you believe that the Church was formed and began during the events that took place in the second chapter of Acts?
9. Was Abraham Jewish?
10. Do you believe it is okay for openly gay people to serve in any position in the church congregation?
11. Do you believe the OT Law was nailed to the cross and thus made void at the death of Jesus?

12. What is the fourth commandment?
13. What day of the week did John receive the Revelation of the Christ on the island of Patmos?
14. How many 24hr periods (complete days) was Jesus dead in the grave?
15. What does the Word of God instruct on how to perform a wedding ceremony?
16. What does the Word of God instruct on how and when to administer communion?
17. How many books are there in the Bible?
18. What sign did God say would be between He and His people that would indicate to the world who are His?
19. What is God's name?
20. What is the Gospel? Define and describe briefly the Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus preached, the apostles preached and His Church is commissioned to go into the world and preach?

Again, I ask that you answer off the top of your head. I don't need to know you can go look something up. If you don't know, don't answer.
Quote the scripture if you already know it. After you have replied to survey, then, by all means, take the questions and your Bible and go get with your tutor, the Spirit of the Holy One and seek the Truth.

Thanks so much to those who respond and peace and love to anyone as well that sits this one out!

So, me thinks you should answer all 20 questions..........FIRST,

I'm also wondering why we should be required to justify ourselves as believers to you?

IF you want to "know" the believers here, I suggest you delve into the various Threads on the various Forum Pages, and read the various comments...........

After all, we have zero idea who you are.........you can say whatever you want about who you are, or for what reason you want so much information.......as can ANYONE who joins this Site, so, why exactly, should we bare our souls to you????

Just pointing out that your "request" goes well beyond what any person here should have to provide to any other member here.

wow.

First I will say, thank you for responding. I appreciate any input on the subject at hand. Even those with hostility. It appears you took offense to my posing these questions. Please set your pride aside and believe me when I say that my intentions were not to make anyone justify themselves. Each believer is accountable only to His Maker.

Second, I did not want to give my answers first as it may influence the way people answer themselves.
There are no soul-bearing questions in what I have presented and if any Christian cannot come up with an answer to these basic questions, then I would submit there is much work to be done yet in deep scriptural study, as there is with myself as well.

I am a student of the Word. I love the Word. Written and Living. Everyone is at a different point in their walk with the Lord and I am not here to issue a judgement on the status of that with individuals. I am merely using this as a barometer to get a feel for what the mainstream Christian doctrine has accomplished among fellow believers. I am constantly amazed at the disparity of theories and dogmas put forth by vast numbers of churches and congregations. I began to research just what it is that believers believe.
The world looks at us and sees little unity and much confusion and it's no wonder this religion of Christianity looks so unappealing to so many.
I am just seeking clarification. I think these are very basic questions, nothing too personal. The Word says to be ready in season and out should anyone ask of you what the Word teaches. If a believer does not know or can not put in simple words what the Gospel of the Kingdom is, then I would find that astonishing, as it is what we are commissioned to preach.

So again, I feel you misinterpreted my motives so you may feel free to not share anything further with me.

Goodday

I sense a trap, but I'll play. So off the top of my head...
1. Do you believe Christians go to Heaven when they die?
yes.

2. Do you believe unsaved sinners go to Hell when they die?
yes.

3. Do you believe that Jesus died on a Friday?
no

4. Do you believe that God desires Christians to celebrate His Son's birthday annually?
Probably

5. Do you believe that it pleases God for Christians to commemorate the resurrection annually on Easter Sunday?
Probably

6. Do you believe that Sunday is a Holy Day?
No more holy than any other day.

7. Do you believe the earth is 6000 years old?
Probably. Something like that.

8. Do you believe that the Church was formed and began during the events that took place in the second chapter of Acts?
Probably

9. Was Abraham Jewish?
No.

10. Do you believe it is okay for openly gay people to serve in any position in the church congregation?
No.

11. Do you believe the OT Law was nailed to the cross and thus made void at the death of Jesus?
No. OT law is for the purpose of showing the need for a savior. It is still effective for that.

12. What is the fourth commandment?
To not bear false witness. (?)

14. How many 24hr periods (complete days) was Jesus dead in the grave?
3

18. What sign did God say would be between He and His people that would indicate to the world who are His?
Rainbow.

19. What is God's name?
I am.

20. What is the Gospel? Define and describe briefly the Gospel of the Kingdom that Jesus preached, the apostles preached and His Church is commissioned to go into the world and preach?
God created man with a life that was His spirit. When man sinned, that spirit Life left us, leaving us spiritually dead. Jesus came and forgave all sin thus allowing for the return of that Spirit that was lost in Adam. Putting our faith and hope in the Jesus signals to God our desire for the return of that Spirit, and He is faithful to grant it.

Jesus did not preach this because He lived during OT. What He preached was the need for a Savior and that He would be that Savior.

This comes across as hostile as if this person was offended. Being offended usually comes from a place of pride, but I am merely gauging by his reaction. I will reiterate what I posted in response. I am not asking anyone to bear their souls, I am asking basic questions on Bible knowledge and beliefs. Every Christian should know what he/she believes, right? Are we not here to discuss what we believe?
Is it too much to ask that believers are able to know and claim what they believe?
Since we are only acquainted online, all of us, and have no knowledge of how others live their lives and cannot see what fruits they bear, we can only discern from someone's words where their heart is.

Thank you for your input. I gleaned way more today than if you had answered each question.

I bid you goodday

Thank you for your frankness. I find it so interesting to hear/read the varied descriptions of what the Gospel is to different believers. It is not totally surprising to find doctrinal differences in say, is Sunday a holy day, because of the varied background and different denominations that this community has been accustomed to.

It is said that the Ten Commandments can be easily divided into two parts, the first is everything that has to do with how we relate to our God. The second part is everything that has to do with how we relate to our fellow humans. Love God, Love others.
When we want to know HOW to love God we look to 1-4. When we want to know HOW to love our neighbors we look to commandments 5-10. I would never wish to simplify God's commands because they are beautifully complex yet simple enough for a child to grasp.

peace to you and yours

You certainly didn't offend me. I'm suspicious of everything because I'm acutely aware of the evil nature of man. That said, I kinda like your questions. I see some opportunities for some apparent contradictions within them and in the ordering. That's what made me say it's a trap. But I hope everyone answers them - trap or no trap. It's interesting. I can see that I disagree with @soberxp but I do respect him for being bold enough to put his answers down. I hope everyone answers the questions. And I'd echo your stipulation of not looking up the answers first. Put your pride aside, and be willing to look a little bit dumb once in awhile. That's how we learn.

the best way to get to know what others believe is to interact in the forums

as it is, I have already formed somewhat of an impression from your post here, but do continue :giggle:
