HERE ARE SOME THINGS I'VE RECENTLY LEARNED IN GENESIS (through online preacher, Chuck Smith - I listen to online preachers like that (which preach through the Bible) several hours after my bedtime, each day.
*He said Jacob was around 70 years of age, when he left home and ended up at Laban's - where he ended up marrying Laban's 2 daughters. That was older than I'd thought. Maybe he's right about his age. I'm still not that good at figuring out the ages of people in the Bible, if their ages aren't mentioned.
*He said that the reason the angel fought with Jacob and finally crippled his thigh - was that it was a disciplinary measure taken by God upon him, because of his common error of trying to do things in his own strength, without trusting God enough for his help. I hadn't thought of that possibility before - maybe Chuck was right! He said Jacob, at that point, had a hard time trusting God for His help, in the event in which he was traveling towards Esau's home - he was afraid that Esau might still be angry at him. He said that his wrestling with the angel on the way, happened, because of his difficulty in relying wholly on God's help. Interesting possibility. He said he didn't think Jacob did ever go to Esau's area or see him again. I'll have to check the story on that in the Bible, later.
*He said that Jacob planned for Joseph to be the next ruler after himself, and that this is why he gave him a coat with sleeves. He said that common workers didn't wear sleeves back then. Interesting possibility! However, Jacob sounded unaware that Joseph would rule over them, in this verse, so maybe he guessed incorrectly:
Gen 37:10
10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?

Here is what is written in Hosea concerning the record in Genesis:

Hosea 12:

3 He [Jacob] took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;

5 Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.

Jacob and Esau did reunite - see Gen 33.

We need to keep reading ... vs 11: And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

Even though Jacob reproved Joseph, Jacob still kept in his heart that which Joseph revealed to him.

Gen 37:11 reminds me of verses where Mary kept matters concerning Jesus in her heart:

Luke 2:19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

Luke 2:33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

Luke 2:51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

Thanks for the Bible timeline showing events of the lives of Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph - it looks like a very good Bible timeline! I downloaded it to my computer. Interesting how in Hosea, Jacob's wrestling with the angel took place and how Jacob made supplication to God in the event! I realized that Jacob saw Esau in chapter 33 of Genesis, but had wondered if he saw him again after that meeting. Evidently not, except for when they came together for the purpose of burying their father, Isaac.
Gen 35:29

29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him
KJV
And when I looked up the subject of Jacob and Esau in the Bible, I found that the reason they didn't live close to each other was that there wasn't room for both of them to do so.
Gen 36:6-7

6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.

7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.
KJV
And here's a passage I found that mentions where each lived:
Josh 24:4-5

4 And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

5 I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out
KJV
I see that it refers to Jacob as living in Egypt. So that has to refer to after Jacob and his family moved to Egypt, after invited to live there by Joseph. Of course, later on, the final home of Israel's descendants was the land of Israel, which had originally been the land of Canaan.

It seem that the table of timelines on this thread makes sense. I do know that as time went on through the ages people did not live as long. I didnt think Issac lived to 180, it is news to me. The bible doesnt say what age everyone dies. In the old testament, think about how young the disciples were when Jesus choose them, some people say they were teenagers. Imagine that.
