Which do you prefer saying?

When referring or talking about "the 12" who knew and followed Jesus, do you prefer calling them the 12 apostles or the 12 disciples?


Just a simple question I thought I'd ask. I don't think there's any "right" answer to this, if I'm not mistaken. It's just a matter of preference. :)

It must be more of a matter of preference as both terms are mentioned in the bible. I believe that, perhaps in the time of Jesus, a disciple would be under the authority of an apostle.

I tend to call the original twelve followers of Jesus "disciples" :)

The Greek word for “apostle” literally means “one who is sent.”

They were sent out in Jesus' time, but the great commission
did not come into effect until after Jesus' resurrection :)

I attended a big Baptist church for two years in my early teens. I had many questions. It was explained to me that we are all disciples because the Greek denotes "student." Whereas apostle denotes "delegate" - as in a messenger. :cool:

Disciples is easier to spell. We can make the same point either way.
