I am listening to this as I type :D I am aware of the Smashing Pumpkins but cannot say I am familiar at all with their music, as it kind of passed me by in the very late 80's and early 90's, and even these lyrics when I look at them (I could barely make them out in the singing) leave me indifferent to them. Please do not take this as a criticism of your musical tastes! I am just wondering if there is some other song of theirs that you could recommend to me that may be more accessible and demonstrative of their draw. When I look at a list of the top bands of the 90's I realize I am actually not familiar with a lot of them  I will show you what I mean with this top 100 list, leaving in purple those I am largely unfamiliar with, marking in blue the bands I have heard some of but don't really know, and marking in bold magenta the bands/artists I know or at least I am much more familiar with and maybe even love :)

Magenta, I'm taking that as the most sincere criticism, feel so hurt now. So sad. Why would you do this to me? It's a Christian site. I need to be encouraged Magenta, hel-looooooow! (Joking)

"Magenta bands", I like the sound of that.

It is a Christian site, so it's really not the best place to post rock music. Rock music has it's roots in the devil's work shop, it's something I still listen to, but I pray God can over look our sins. Posted this song, because it's pretty harmless overall, but I think rock music has brought many to hell to be quite frank.

I will give you another song I really like though, if it's any consultation. One of my favorites for sure.

Consolation? Oh, another sad omission from the top 100 list I provided was The Eagles. Admittedly the vast majority of their stellar material predates that; still, they did officially releases material in the nineties, and this song, though from the late 80's, charted in/to the 90's and is also representative of a strong Christian theme, that being forgiveness. This is one of my all time favorite songs.

*wipes away tear* The devil be damned :giggle:

The Heart of the Matter

PS~ I also saw Don Henley live in the very late 80's or very early 90's :D

You never seen Don Henley, come on! Like I'm gonna believe that. Get real girl! I don't believe everything on the net. (more joking)

Really like this one by Amy Grant.

Her loss right Gregoryp? Maybe your gain, you don't know.
Maybe the lord is trying to tell me there is someone missing me, but I haven't had any contact from anyone so I don't know. But its sure. I love this whole concert btw. Actually downloaded it and play it often.

Listening now :) Okay, female artist tragically overlooked on that top 100 of the 90's list: Jann Arden  How dare they??? :eek:o_O:poop: Jann Arden profoundly touched the hearts and souls of many with her wrenching lyrics and haunting voice. Another theme I will revisit later, believe me :devilish: I saw Jann in concert five times. Yes, sir, count 'em: five! I met her also, at a CD signing event, and she put a special message to me on the CD cover with her signature about loving my purpleness :giggle: The venue was playing her music while everyone patiently awaited their turn, and I overheard the people ahead of me asking Jann where her songs "came from," and Jann said she did not know, which really made me cry that she was unaware that her songs came from the depths of her soul. When we finally met I asked if I could give her a hug, and she came out from behind her table so we could embrace each other. Ah, the sweetness of it all

This is from her 1994 "Living Under June" CD. Bonus: she's Canadian! :D

There are many memorable songs of hers :D Like this one:

How could anyone not love this song? She seems
to be singing about Jesus, and even mentions Him :D
Some may be scandalized by it though :censored:

I used to play this one over and over at work and one of my co-workers would scream
at me to turn to down (or off) LOLOLOLOLOL yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

I had not seen this version before just now. She performed this on
Canada Day in 1994. Thanks for the journey, fellow traveler :)

The song that brought her into the limelight of the world was this one. Here
she performs it with another beloved Canadian songstress, Anne Murray :)

Powerful voice, huh? At one of her earlier concerts, I yelled out during
a moment of silence, "I love you Jann!" and she quipped, "Where were you
when I was in high school?" She had an incredibly self effacing sense of humor.
I think that may be a main reason why the press has never really pilloried her.
She has already said, publicly, all the worst things that could be said about herself.

Maybe it was Veteran's Day (we call it Remembrance day).

Another female Canadian artist left off that list (yes, I am going to harp about
this LOL) was Lynn Miles. This came out in the 90's. Weird Al parodied it :giggle::giggle::giggle:

This is from the same release (Slightly Haunted) in 1996.

There is a tundra
There is the snow
There is a sorrow that won't let go
There is a river
That's frozen now
There is a grace that I cannot allow

It's so dark here
It's so cold
That everything could splinter
Don't be afraid
To look down upon
This heart that lives in winter
This heart that lives in winter

There is a circle
There is a line
There is a hill that I cannot climb
There is a fire
And it's burning below
And it will not die
Though these winds will blow

It's so dark here
It's so cold
That everything could splinter
Don't be afraid
To look down upon
This heart that lives in winter
This heart that lives in winter

There's always a king
Always a queen
Always a hollow place
Somewhere in between
But there is a lesson
And it's waiting in the night
And always a search
For a soothing light

It's so dark here
It's so cold
That everything could splinter
Don't be afraid
To look down upon
This heart that lives in winter
This heart that lives in winter
This heart that lives in winter

And then there is this one (not sure of the year though
it always comes to mind for me when thinking of her).

Yeah, youtube is definitely a blessing during these times. Just have to ride this storm out the best we can, it certainly gives us time to be thankful are the blessings God has given us.

Five times? That pretty good for a casual listener, seven times and I would of be impressed. That sounds like an enjoyable moment you had Magenta.

Yes, it was , indeed! That is why I thanked you in that one post, calling you fellow traveler, for bearing with me as I revisit some of my musical memories :D I also saw The Moody Blues in concert five times. They were sadly missing from that top 100 90's list list also haha. Another person I saw in concert many times was Bruce Cockburn, who is also Canadian, and been very prolific. He used to play at the Canadian National Exposition in Toronto, so the admittance price was included in the fair gate (meaning, quite inexpensive as far as concerts go, and it was an outdoor venue also, quite lovely, really :)) So, having mentioned him, the song that comes to mind is Rocket Launcher, but I would rather post a song by another French Canadian Band known as Cano, whom I also saw live, sitting in a cloud on a mountain top many years ago :)

Definitely can relate to the passion of good music. Seems like you the outdoor music concerts, better than a stuffy concert hall.
