People should be aware that it is best not to engage in personal fights here. I thought the following might be helpful to disengage from those who bait you and it is also a reminder that we do have an obligation to restrain from the desire to get one over on another person. There is no need to score points here as we all agree that we all have the right to speak as provided for in the Constitution, so, with that in mind, here are are some little helpful ways to keep from making things personal as we express our opinions.

Projection: a person who doesn’t like your point of view may say, ”I don’t think you like me.”. That's a personal poke and obviously not about the op

Other ways to become too engaged and end up being the person you really do not want to be, is to try to explain to someone that you are not doing what they are accusing you of doing. In other words, if you are accused of being rude and you know you are not rude, just pass it off. Ad hominum attacks are all too frequent in these forums.

Be careful of generalizations. As has been pointed out a good number of times in this thread alone, not all police are bad and not all people of any group are prejudiced and all people do not need to apologize to rioters and give in to them.

These are just some simple things that I want to keep in mind and they might be helpful to new members who have not had the experience of how argumentative certain threads here can be. The news forum is especially a forum in which people take sides and sometimes extreme sides.

I am posting this for myself as much as anyone else.

Susanna, I am a new member, to my knowledge I have not supported racism. But in the event you feel I did I think the best way to end this since no one seems to know who did (again} It was not me yet being a new member I am uncomfortable with the reference to it being a new member. I will now just read the postings since I enjoy this room and no longer post.
Hi Sherry,
Don't be intimidated. It can unfortunately become quite nasty in here at times.
But you are welcome to be here. It helps if you have a thick skin.

I would concur.

People are being fed information crafted to direct their thought processes in a way that feeds into the current political situation in this country. Can Christians be fooled? Appeal to their sense of fairness or what they believe constitutes the enactment of God's love (while forgetting His intolerance of sin) and behold out they come all outraged against those who actually are not the culprits.

Right now, there is a State Dept. news briefing and FOX has decided to show instead an apology from the General that was photographed when Trump stood before the church in DC. Totally political.

The State Dept. briefing consisted of Pompeo, Barr, Esper and one or two others. It concerns the ICC wanting to bring US military personal up for trial before them...12 judges. This, is a very important development that concerns far more than some politically motivated bloviating General who made a decision and is now making a big deal about wishing he had not appeared with Trump.
This was on OAN, while FOX played the big apology.

As we know, FOX is doing its very best to keep both ideologies before their cameras rather than leaning to a more conservative approach. To put this man in place of the State Dept. news briefing is just about criminal IMO. People re being fed rather than informed.
These conspiracy theories are beyond stupid
Cops don't get prosecuted on fake assaults.
If you believe so, you are completely disconnected from reality

In saying the following, I do not intend to insult or point fingers at anyone.

Someone recently said on TV that if you do not want police in your area, stop committing crimes. In other words, the police are going to be where the crimes are.

I don't see this country racially divided so much as politically divided. I think the Democrats do a fine job of persuading people otherwise.
I guess it was maybe "over dramatic" a bit, but is what I said untrue? It wasn't meant as an insult, it was meant as a rebuke. I stand behind it, but do kind of personally hate it comes off this way to some, but truly feel this middle of the road "mish mush" stuff is over and we need to boldly, in love, call right right, wrong is wrong. I do take what you're saying into consideration too, maybe I commented out of reaction a bit too.

This doesn't makes sense because I misread the first part of your comment, but my main point is the same. And I agree by the way.

I am fine with what you said even though I might not have worded it that way.

I am more or less referring to avoiding deliberate attempts to engage in personal comments that really don't help anyone. Please, I am not judging you or anyone else. We all need to look inside. :) That does not mean we have no opinions but rather don't see those with whom we disagree as the enemy.

A video has actually surfaced in which that same man is seen talking with the man who videotaped the episode.

Doctors have now stated that the way he is supposed to have hit his head would not incur bleeding from the ear.

His facebook page is also encouraging violence and hatred towards police.

And on it goes.

I was curious if any had seen the video, the news on tv only shows a few seconds of it and I wondered about others opinion of it . I myself cant understand what he was thinking a policeman would do if he grabbed at an officers equipment belt(Ammo, taser, pistol, radio ect.). In a situation like that it could be mistaken as someone trying to tase you or stab you ect. and so defense is a reasonable reaction to me.

Of he two who pushed him back the one(with the piton) tried to stop and help but was told to get up and go onward(it looks like) and the one who pushed with his hand circled around and reaches his hand under his face shield on his face as though his reaction is as if he did not intend any harm to Mr.Gugino . It just doesn't seem as if intentional abusive force if I watch the two officers after Mr Gugino fell. I did not mean to begin any friction by posting the video and question.

I have a link to the video as presented on OAN. I saved it in case anyone wanted to see it. I decided not to just post it because it is so contrary to the popular opinion.

Here it is. Just over 5 minutes long. video

I'll add that I made the same observations you did after watching it a couple of times.

Yes as we have a big problem with police corruption
There's not a judge in America who's going to put a cop in jail without valid evidence
So "corruption" is to you "not putting a cop into jail without valid evidence"? Are you listening to yourself? So they should put them into jail on mere word?

If there are false rape allegations, false DV allegations, why do you think false assault allegations are so impossible especially during a time like this? You sound pretty disconnected from reality yourself.

when this goes to court, there are certainly going to be medical evidence showing head contusion
There's not a judge in America who is going to convict a cop without proper evidence

White privilege sexually assaulting a girl behind a dumpster and only doing months in jail
People of color can to get disproportionate sentences for same or similar crimes
its not just the cops its the insitutionalised JUSTICE department which privelige whites over other people in their sentecncing, letting white people off all the time. when it comes to jail time, most white people get off cos they have money and power to bribe the courts! serious fraud and white collar crime get off easy. . they can just pay off lawyers. and funny thing is your seat of govt is called the WHITE house. Hmm white privelige? sure thing.

you dont even know and its staring you right in the face Kayla.
have you ever investigated the seats of power and whats behind it.

know about a thing called 'the great white brotherhood' or even know about what the ku klux klan did (and still do) and even what Hitler did? he wanted to privelige white people. it happens in India where the paler skin you have, the more you are privleiged in their caste system.

I cant believe you dont even know this. Look around its WORLDWIDE. get your head out of the sand.

I was not not speaking about any particular case but generally, there will be many false allegations coming as police is losing every protection and basically can't defend themselves. But if you're talking about the man that was pushed, he reached out to touch them and he also unfortunately ignored them when they said to move. So by his behavior, if he wants to sue, he made it a lot easier for the defense. They didn't attack or tase him. He was just pushed away, but it ended up very badly. If they answer, they will probably answer only for not calling the ambulance immediately.

It is reported that the 75 yr old man had some kind of an app on his phone that he was actually directing at the police and that is why you can see him running his phone up the right side (facing) of the officer in the video.

One officer actually wants to stop, you can see this in the video, but he is told to keep going.

I am willing to bet these officers have seen him before. He has been arrested 4 times because of his none peaceful behavior.

i would not fund cops to have access to bullions of dollars weapons when people are going hungry cos all the money that could be allocated to health care and education was spent on ....bullets.

hospitals and schools have to beg for funds while arm dealers have a sure deal and will always be funded.
