The problem is that Trump is acting like a person who is provocative. He’s not unifying. The results of his conduct are for us out on the ground level to handle. We’ll handle it, have no doubt about it, but the president is not helping.
This is a president that has been demonized by the media for years.
No matter what he would say, it would be rejected and also demonized.
I have not seen a single elected official that has said anything to unify this country.
If some one has please give me a link.
Everyone is promoting their own personal agenda.
And for everyone's info, I have never been a fan of Trump.

Yeah, they are using this tragic event to try to show racism, when clearly it doesn't. There was an Asian and another black man involved in the murder....but all anyone else can see is the white dude who was actually married to a woman of a different race. Oh, well doesn't matter guess he is a closeted white supremacist....I'm not sure why folks can't see through this foolishness and call it like it is.... just another case of bad cops that had nothing to do with racism.

Be as it may, but he is the President and is the one supposed to be unifying our country when we’re falling on hard times. Pointing at others isn’t good enough.

He said we should make officials feel uncomfortable.
How is that unifying?
did you really have time in the 3 minutes between me posting that and you replying to listen to the whole hour and a half of the video? or did you prejudicially dismiss it because of who it was?

just asking because you had mentioned something about a president being demonized in some media or another.

Be as it me, but where is the opposition leaders trying to unify?
Do they not also have responsibility?
You continue to point out the presidents failures without pointing out the failure of the opposotions.
You sound like the news media.

Has Trump stepped down since you keep pointing at others to fix what the president is supposed to address?

He did say as I said.

"And every step of progress in this country, every expansion of freedom, every expression of our deepest ideals, has been won through efforts that made the status quo uncomfortable. And we should all be thankful for folks who are willing in a peaceful, disciplined way to be out there making a difference."

Lets all face facts.
This country is very divided and the leaders on all sides are promoting their own agenda when they should be trying to unite.
Lets blame them all, not just the ones we disagree with.

if you have honestly heard/watched this already ((it was live yesterday)) then you heard him also say this:

"This is a moment, and we have had moments like this before where people are paying attention. And that doesn't mean that everything will get solved, so don't get disheartened, because this is a marathon, not a sprint. But the fact that people are paying attention provides an opportunity to educate, activate, mobilize and act, and I hope we are able to seize this moment."

so i don't know why you are saying everyone is furthering their own personal agendas and no politician has said anything to try to unify the nation. this man is retired from the presidency -- he can hardly be accused of aspiring to manipulate this situation in order to ascend to political power. G.W. Bush had unifying things to say, as well. personally i think mr. Obama is a lot more eloquent.

I guess we just see things differently.
He is promoting his party and their agenda.
Did not see Bush's statement.
I have lost all respect and trust in all elected officials with the exception of a very few, very, very few.

he was promoting peace, perseverance, education and compassion. if that's the platform of a party i don't know why you are opposed to it.

Laura and I are anguished by the brutal suffocation of George Floyd and disturbed by the injustice and fear that suffocate our country. Yet we have resisted the urge to speak out, because this is not the time for us to lecture. It is time for us to listen. It is time for America to examine our tragic failures – and as we do, we will also see some of our redeeming strengths.
It remains a shocking failure that many African Americans, especially young African American men, are harassed and threatened in their own country. It is a strength when protesters, protected by responsible law enforcement, march for a better future. This tragedy — in a long series of similar tragedies — raises a long overdue question: How do we end systemic racism in our society? The only way to see ourselves in a true light is to listen to the voices of so many who are hurting and grieving. Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America — or how it becomes a better place.

America’s greatest challenge has long been to unite people of very different backgrounds into a single nation of justice and opportunity. The doctrine and habits of racial superiority, which once nearly split our country, still threaten our Union. The answers to American problems are found by living up to American ideals — to the fundamental truth that all human beings are created equal and endowed by God with certain rights. We have often underestimated how radical that quest really is, and how our cherished principles challenge systems of intended or assumed injustice. The heroes of America — from Frederick Douglass, to Harriet Tubman, to Abraham Lincoln, to Martin Luther King, Jr. — are heroes of unity. Their calling has never been for the fainthearted. They often revealed the nation’s disturbing bigotry and exploitation — stains on our character sometimes difficult for the American majority to examine. We can only see the reality of America's need by seeing it through the eyes of the threatened, oppressed, and disenfranchised.

That is exactly where we now stand. Many doubt the justice of our country, and with good reason. Black people see the repeated violation of their rights without an urgent and adequate response from American institutions. We know that lasting justice will only come by peaceful means. Looting is not liberation, and destruction is not progress. But we also know that lasting peace in our communities requires truly equal justice. The rule of law ultimately depends on the fairness and legitimacy of the legal system. And achieving justice for all is the duty of all.
This will require a consistent, courageous, and creative effort. We serve our neighbors best when we try to understand their experience. We love our neighbors as ourselves when we treat them as equals, in both protection and compassion. There is a better way — the way of empathy, and shared commitment, and bold action, and a peace rooted in justice. I am confident that together, Americans will choose the better way.

pleased to oblige :)

remember when we had presidents who were presidential?

that was cool. it's true, as the song goes, that sometimes you don't know what you've got until it's gone.

presidents IMO seem to get wiser after they've left office. there's something about shouldering a great burden and being able to lay it down that is enlightening, i suspect.

i look forward to seeing what happens to Trump after he leaves office.
