Yes and in connection to 1 Corinthians 3, I have two questions. I guess before moving on to 1 Corinthians 4 and not judging anything but leaving these certain things to the ONE who judges what we can not fully and completely judge since we do not know the heart of all men, and since we, can not know the outcome of all men...
What is the FOUNDATION?
And what would be considered (manmade) material added to the FOUNDATION?
1 Corinthians 3
3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
3:11 For other
foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which
is Jesus Christ.
3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
I also think of this as the Core Gospel, or the Good News.
My belief is that it consists of...
1.) Deity of Jesus.
Philippians 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
2.) Jesus condescended, came down from Heaven.
Philippians 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
3.) Paid the price for man's sin with His lifeblood
Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
4.) He arose and now sits in Heaven as the eternal King of Glory.
Philippians 2
2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth;
2:11 And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Our part is to simply confess that we, like everyone else, was born with a sin nature and we need Jesus. We then make the choice to completely surrender to His free offer of love, mercy, and grace which is only made available by the Blood of Jesus. He is the only way. We must come to Him by faith, just as we are. He does the rest. I believe that we are given the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation the comfort, strengthen and guide.
I belief most anything added to this amounts to wood hay and stubble. Be careful of all the denominal distinctives floating around these days.
