Sounds like you are really on the same page as everyone else here...well except for the Calvinist.

Jesus died for all but not all will choose the free gift of salvation, and only the one's that choose Him will be saved.
Exactly.

In just a few posts, my quote at the beginning of this thread ("Jesus died for everybody's sins") has been changed to something else ("Jesus died for all mankind").

I'm not talking about the opportunity Jesus' death provided to everybody to follow God, I'm talking about not being judged on your sins.

Jesus did not die so that EVERYBODY'S sins would be washed away.
He died so that those that follow him would not be judged.

I'm not sure we're exactly saying the same thing. I believe all sin was atoned for. I believe at the cross He took the sins of the whole world. That doesn't mean all will be saved, or turn from sin. But it was paid for at the cross.

You are correct in your assertion that not everyone's sins will be forgiven in the end. Hell will definitely not go empty.

Agree.

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world.

Romans 5

18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Exactly.

He paid for it all, but in order to receive the gift we have to accept it. If we don't accept it then we will be held accountable for our sins.

So I do think we are in agreeance, just saying it differently, I guess. Even though he took all sin upon him, we still have to accept him or we will be judged for our sin.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

We find in the passage that men choose. Some choose life and some choose to continue in death. It is on them and not Jesus as He welcomes all who come to Him. They turn from the light not that they did not have light to see Christ.

"Jesus died for everybody's sins".

This is what I hear often from Christians and non-Christians alike.

Surely it isn't true though.

Jesus said
"I am the way, the truth and the life".
Humanity turned away from God when we ignored God's commandments in the garden of Eden.
Jesus offers us a way to develop a relationship with God and to start following Him again.

Jesus died for the sins of the people who choose to follow Him, and believe in Him.
He did not die for every random person, whether they choose to follow and believe in Him or not.

Thoughts?
All mankind did inherit Adam's sinful nature. We are born into this world with that sinful nature, void of any righteousness. 1 Cor 2:14 explains mankind's condition; that they cannot discern the things of the Spirit, and therefore, would not choose to follow Jesus, or to believe in him. Eph 2 explains how that God, by his sovereign grace, without the help of man, transformed the person who is dead spiritually, into a spiritual being, imputing unto them the righteousness of Christ, by putting his Holy Spirit within them, and exchanging their heart of stone to a heart of flesh, Ezk 36:26-27, being born again.

God, by his foreknowledge, saw that none of mankind would seek him Psalms 53:2-3, which caused him to choose a number of them that he would change to have a spiritual nature through giving them the new birth. Eph 2.

John 3:16 For God so loved... who? That He gave His Son. That who should believe and be saved? There's the answer in a nutshell.
God so loved the world of believers. None of mankind believed, Psalms 53:2-3, until God changed them by taking away their stony heart out of their flesh, and giving them a heart of flesh, and putting his spirit within them Eze 36:26-27.

The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Cor 2:14. It is not by mankind's choice that saves them, but it is by God's sovereign grace, without the help of man. Eph 2.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

...so no, not everybody.
The opportunity to reconnect with God is given to everybody, but not everybody will take it.
None of mankind will take it, no, not one Psalms 53:2-3, until God gives them a new heart, and puts his Spirit within them, Ezek 36:26-27, and quickens them together with Christ Eph 2:5, and after they believe in spiritual things, he gives them the imputed righteousness of Christ. Eternal salvation to mankind is by God's choice and not man's choice.

So you're saying that only people that God chooses will follow Jesus?

So why doesn't he just change everybody's heart?

I have a lot of questions to God, as to why he does, or does not do things, because his ways are higher than our ways, and his thoughts higher than our thoughts, so, I guess you will have to ask God.

Jesus' sacrifice is sufficient for all but effective only for those who accept it.

What about the Canaanites? The people in the flood? Egypt in the OT, Edom? etc. Only the Jews had the atonement through the Temple and its means. Now that's a Limited Atonement............

Just the standard cop out.

The responsibility for man to choose between eternal life and eternal condemnation has gone on from Adam to this very day.

If the scriptures do not harmonize, then you do not interpret the scriptures correctly.
