“19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth (everything on the Earth is temporal), where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in Heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

It is easy to check up on "earthly treasures," by looking at a financial statement. What kind of "treasures" is the Lord speaking of that the Child of God is to lay up in Heaven? And how do we do what the scripture is asking us to do in verse #20?

Please explain verse #21?

The word "treasure" speaks of the things of this world that you hold dear, the physical and material things. To lay up treasure in heaven, is when we determine to support the furtherance of the gospel, witness for Christ, or deny ourselves for the benefit of others, actually anything that benefits God's kingdom on Earth, but is laid in store or recorded for rewards later.

Matthew poole’s commentary on John 19:14

“about the sixth hour; that is, in the latter part of the interval between nine o’clock in the morning and twelve at noon: for the division of the day according to the Jews was in four parts; the first was from the rising of the sun till our nine in the morning, and was called the third hour; the other was from the third hour to the sixth, that is, twelve o’clock at noon; the third division was from their sixth hour to the ninth, that is, three o’clock with us in the afternoon; the fourth division was from the ninth hour to sunset, that is, with us six o’clock in the evening, when the sun is in the equinox. Now, not only the time when any of these hours came was called either the third or sixth hour, but the space of three hours allotted to each division was so called, when the next division began: so the time of our Saviour’s crucifixion is recorded by Mark to be the third hour; that is, the whole space from nine o’clock to twelve was not quite gone, though it was near at an end; and by the evangelist here it is said, that it was about the sixth hour, that is, near our twelve o’clock. Jesus says you cannot serve God and money. If we seek first the kingdom he will provide what money provides using money. But he is our career, our employer. To side-step him and make acquiring money our career is idolatry according to Paul.

The main point of this teaching by Christ is to ALWAYS PUT GOD FIRST!

Everything else is secondary. There is nothing wrong with having earthly "treasures" such as a home, car, clothes, furniture and such, AS LONG as these DO NOT become more important in your life than GOD.

IF someone here is feeling guilty about the "treasures" they have here on earth, please let me know and I'll arrange to have them shipped to me................especially if it's a Bass Boat

This is Matthew 6:19-21

Verse 21 "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

The heart is the thing that influences our decisions.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23 - KJV).

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. (NIV).

If the word of God is your treasure, for which you suffer the lost of all things for, this makes the believer effective in demonstrating the power of God through his word to turn men away from unrighteousness.

There are so many ways to answer this question, but to give just one angle on applying this text to ourselves, one could say the following, regarding whether we center our lives on all things spiritual or material. How can we know whether our heart is centered on spiritual or material things? Perhaps the best guide is our conversation, since ‘out of the heart’s abundance the mouth speaks.’ (Luke 6:45) If we find ourselves constantly talking about material things or worldly achievements, it is evidence that our heart is divided and that our spiritual vision is defective.

There is only one treasure I seek and it isn't of this world, in fact I could crare less what treasures I stack up in heaven I will gladly trade it all to have his heart.
This to me is what that verse says and in this way this verse is written upon my heart

How do we seek the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness First, so that all the things such as wisdom, guiding & leading, understanding, etc., are added?

There are two natures within, the FLESH nature and the NEW nature given to us at conversion. The purpose of the old nature remaining, is to give one a choice of actions-to obey what is right, or to disobey,( that which is wrong). By choosing the right, we grow spiritually and take on the fruits, or nature, of the Spirit. Romans 7: 21-25 gives the conclusion of the whole matter. To those who see salvation as the "end all" for discussion, let me assure you that salvation is where we START from, the END results, are holiness unto the Lord. Our struggles come from: The world, The flesh, and temptations of the devil.

You misunderstand. You see to me I can have all the honor all the glory I can have titles and crowns upon my head vast treasures of all kinds but the only treasure that I seek is to have his heart to have him and to know him deeper than anyone ever thought possible. To have that level of love, that kind of intimacy a bond like that to go further into that ocean that is his heart than anyone ever has before. This is been my hearts desire since the beginning when I first met him. it is the reason I move forwards even in my worst times, it is the reason I seek to be strong and to me it is the greatest treasure in all of heaven.

Of course as with anything worth seeking it is not one easily obtained, it is one that requires true love and passion one that you will have to hunger and thirst for relentlessly constantly seeking it out everyday however you can. It is not a treasure that is obtained simply for yourself either it is one that you cannot help but share and give because that is wonderful and beautiful it is.
When his heart is your treasure everything else is set aside because you only see him and you chase him relentlessly with complete abandon and fire the hunger that drives you for even just a bit more of him the thirst that is always unquenchable and the desire so strong that is not a matter of if you will have him like this but when. No matter what the enmy does to you with doubt and fear no matter how many times you fall and stumble no matter how many times life breaks you and the enemy laughs at your weakness you don't believe this treasure is going to be yours you know it is it isn't a belief it is prophecy

You have not considered that there are two basic "treasures" to be won, Crowns for personal spiritual growth, and REWARDS FOR WORKS, that are labours for the kingdom of God.

Well the verse says where your tesure is there your heart will be so if he is willing to give me those tresures that is fantastic but there is only one place my heart is

In my case, it was my daily provisions. James says to pray for wisdom.

Prayers to Christ, Suffering or persecution for Christ's sake, Charitable giving for Christ sake, Hospitality for Christ's sake, Evangelizing for Christ's sake, And probably the greatest treasure is making disciples for Christ. There are many many more of course.

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” John 14:21

How does a Child of God keep His commandments?
