Hey everyone,

Between new neighbors with a menagerie of pets I hope to meet after the lockdown and all the current talk about cats vs. dogs, I was wondering how many people here have had pets who were better at choosing the people in their life than they were!

For instance:

* Have you had dates or friends that your pet liked, but you didn't? (What wound up happening?)

* Have you had dates or friends that your pet did NOT like, but you did, and so you kept that person around? How did your pet feel about it?

*** In the end, who was a better judge of character -- you or your pet? And did it get to a point where you would start to trust your pet's sense of trust better than your own?

Also:

* Have you ever hung on to someone just because you wanted to continue to see their pet (but didn't particularly want to see their human?)

* Have you ever been through a breakup in which you had to decide which person the pet was going to live with? How did it get resolved? If you were the one to "lose" the "custody" battle, did you wind up having "visitations" with said pet?

Of course, all of these scenarios aren't just for dates or friends, but most anyone in our lives -- family members, co-workers, etc., so anyone who has experienced this in any way is welcome to share their stories. :)

I'm curious to see the extent to which people's furry friends influence their decisions about their human company. :)

ummm interesting question
Because all my pets had been cats and shared amongst the household and dont really 'belong' to me alone...it just depended on whether the cat was friendly and liked people in general or not.

Our cat loves visitors so whenever anyone comes over she greets them, but I know some cats hide from people they dont know. I wouldnt take it personally.

Cats arent too possessive of people actually.

with dog people what I find rather annoying is when they go away on holiday and ask for a dog sitter so Ive learned not to offer my services because its just exhausting living with a dog! With cats generally you dont have to run after them cleaning up their poo.

what I would find a red flag is if a person DIDNT look after their own pets...many people dont and neglect them. The test comes when your pet reaches old age how much would you be willing to pay of they needed to go to the vet and you need to look after them when they are needy.

I worked as a vet nurse one summer. cats and dogs and birds....and the occasional mouse. All creatures great and small.

someone who doesnt like animals at all I would also be a little wary of but that doesnt mean Im not friends with them or anything. Its more the people who abuse them.

A friend of mine and his beautiful wife rescued a squirrel once. Poor lil guy had a broken leg.
So they took him to the vet, and were told scottish grey squirrels were not indigenous and would be
euthanized. So they took him home and nursed him back to health.
All was good and great with their new pet for about a year ( he was a very young squirrel at first )
when one day the wife came home and mr. squirrel savagely attacked her. Just imagine, hahaha....

So they took him far away and released him, that dern squirrel anyhow!

Yadayadayada six months later my friend discovered his wife had been cheating on him
and they divorced. I believe with out doubt the squirrel figured it out on the first day and attacked
her because of a strangers smell.

My buddy agrees, he shoulda kept the squirrel and ditched his wife.

This is a true story.........

Hmm... I gotta enter a no contest on this one. I've never had any of that stuff in the OP happen to me.

I have heard of it happening though. It even happened to Superman.

Batman's line about Krypto being a good judge of character is one of the best Batman ever had.

My ex’s pet dog loved me more than her by far. Lol She would get so excited to see only me.

Haha love this thread Seoul :)

Because I haven’t dated anyone since like, a million years ago, I would like to see how my boys would respond if I was to introduce them to a (hypothetical) partner.

I can only imagine what they would normally do when new/strangers come into our property.

My dog loves everyone.❤
If you're nice to her, she's nice to you.
She especially loves men.
I think they're a bit of a novelty to her, since she's rarely around them. 🤭

Haven't had a pet in years, but I'd much rather pet a strange dog than talk to a strange person (fortunately when talking to strange dogs, their owners usually respond for them so I don't have to directly start with people (yes I'm that kind of introvert; have a dog or need some help if you want me to talk to you).

Thats crazy letting your pets choose your partner, i watched a girl do that on dinner date on TV once. Its crazy because the cats were not bonding with the guy and he hates cats. She was pretty, he was on love island, (which says it all) and the conversation was good but the cats were a problem for both of them.
