Explain, "The unpardonable sin".

(This sin has nothing to do with unbelief, Jesus himself, God the Father, or personal sins of the flesh).

My hunch is that it's when you say the work of the Holy Spirit is the work of demons/Satan. Or vice versa.


Right before Jesus talked about the unpardonable sin, the Pharisees were accusing him of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub. At that point, Jesus mentions this sin.


So perhaps the moral of the story is....be very careful what you say is of God and what you say is of Satan/demons. If you don't know the source, don't judge.


Anyway....that's my two cents.

Rom 3:23 all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
(NOTE: Scripture proclaims that ALL are sinners)

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
NOTE: Bad news - Sins wage/sentence that we're all quilty of = DEATH. Good news - The gift of God/Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38, 10:45) gives eternal life to everyone who BELIEVES in Jesus sin atonement/payment & resurrection)

John 12:32 Jesus said; if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw "all" men unto me.
(NOTE: Jesus was in fact, lifted up on a cross & will draw "ALL" to Himself)

Matt 12:31 Jesus said; All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
(NOTE: Christ via the indwelling Holy Spirit draws ALL. Everyone has a choice, except & believe or reject & deny/don't believe in Christ's sin atonement & resurrection. Continued rejection until life's end, results in eternal separation from our creator)

John 16:
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
(NOTE: The Comforter = God's gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit. See Jn 14:26)

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
(NOTE: The Holy Spirit will reprove/expose/convict everyone of, sins? NO of "SIN" singular.)

9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
NOTE: We all have a choice, except & believe or reject/deny & don't believe in Christ's sin atonment & resurrection until lifes end.)

John 8:24 Jesus said; ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

Accept God's grace/undeserved favor: Believe in the faithful, obedient sin atoning death (sins required wage PAID), burial (proof Jesus died) & resurrection (Father's receipt, sins payment receiced & accepted) of Jesus the Christ.

One poster almost had it perfectly.

The Pharisees did accuse the power which Eshu performed miracles was that of the Adversary. And Eshu said, it is from the Holy Spirit. And He then went onto say, say whatever you want about the Father, Himself, but "NEVER" say the Holy Spirit is equal to demonic powers. For that is the unforgiveable sin.

Wow I sure learned something today. I didn't realize it was the holy spirit himself the sin was about.
He must be a really sacred person of the trinity. I mean to say that about father is horrible but apparently to say it about the holy spirit himself is like a huge you don't wanna cross that line kind of thing

It is a reflection of the first and foremost commandment. Thou shall have no gods before or Living God. The unpardonable sin. It can also be called the abomination of desolation making void the holy place of God not seen.

No one can commit the "unforgivable sin" unless they know what they are doing, In other words the only way to commit the unforgivable sin is to know Christ and have received the Holy Spirit and ask then reject the Holy Spirit Otherwise there is no such a thing as commiting the unforgivable sin out of ignorance because how can a person reject that which they know nothing about??? A person has to be saved and know God before they can tell the Holy Spirit of God to leave and never come back.

I agree mostly with this.... in my understanding, the un-pardonable sin is the rejection of the Holy Spirit.. or the refusal to accept the free gift of salvation.. This is a rejection of the Spirit, which we receive when we accept Christ and are baptized. You cannot be forgiven if you don't WANT forgiveness..

There are at least two examples of the unforgivable sin I know of. 1) is saying the works of the Holy Spirit are of the Devil. Jesus warned the Pharisees when they said he has a demon. 2) is in Hebrews 6. Where those who reject Christ and return to Judaism cannot repent and must suffer the consequences. Many churches plan to do this whenever a "Third Temple" is built and animal sacrifices become available.

Peter says; “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.” 2 Peter 2:1 (KJV 1900)

The unpardonable or unforgivable sin is unique and the guilty party were scribes and Pharisees who had witnessed irrefutable evidence that Jesus was working miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit, yet they claimed that He was possessed by Beelzebul, the prince of devils. (Matthew 12:24; Mark 3:30) They had witnessed irrefutable truth that Jesus was the Messiah sent by God. They knew the prophecies were being fulfilled. They saw the works and miracles of Jesus and they heard His clear presentation of truth, yet they deliberately chose to deny the truth and commit blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Jesus pronounced that sin to be unforgivable.

The key to understanding Matthew 12: 31,32. and Mark 3: 28-30 is the word BLASPHEMY. Webster's dictionary breaks the word into it's two parts: blapsis or injurious, and phemi, to speak. Together this word blasphemy is something SPOKEN, that is hurtful, derogatory, or irreverent. The person of the Holy Ghost, is the subject to which this warning is given. An example of this being committed is in Mark 3: verse 30. When we read a passage of scripture, we need to slow down, and read the words for their meaning. Many Christians just "skim read" or read the sentences far too quickly and the meaning is lost in a jumble of words. Slow down, and read each word carefully, along with it's meaning. (KJV) for accuracy.

(Joh 8:24) I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

The only unpardonable sin.

The Pharisees blasphemed against the Spirit for they said Jesus had an unclean Spirit, and attributed the works He did to the devil, which they said they were evil works, which Jesus did good works, and Jesus pointed out that if He is casting out devils then He is of the kingdom of God.

A person can blaspheme against the Son, the flesh, and be forgiven, but cannot blaspheme against the Spirit.

Which Saul went against the Church but did not blaspheme against the Spirit, for he was a Pharisee, and zealous of the traditions of his fathers, which he only went against the Son, the flesh, and not against the Spirit, then Jesus met him and then He followed Jesus, and became Paul.

Blaspheme against the Spirit is attributing evil to God when He is good.

Which some people say God does not love me, He is punishing me, He is responsible for natural disasters, which is not true for we are under grace.

The Bible testifies that there is a God that created all things, and of His attributes, which one of them is love, for He provided food, and the means to make clothing, and shelter, so the world is without excuse, and testifies of the 2 greatest laws, love God, and love people.

Since creation testifies that God loves people, and is good, then people should not believe that God is evil, but good.

And further proof coming from the Bible that God is love, and good.

The unpardonable sin is unbelief. "No faith" that comes from hearing God as it is written.

The hearing of the pardon (gospel) is cut off. Only the gospel can heal it when applied by Christ as shown in the parable below.

Luke 22:50-52 King James Version (KJV) And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him. Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?

He touched our ear, and healed us by the same work of His faith that works in us. .

Most of the answers are what one has been taught, what their church believes, or what they themselves believe, but have missed what the scripture is saying. Words reveal meaning, and, for the most part seem to be of little importance compared to what they have been taught. The Word of God is truth, and his people should read it carefully and treat it as the final authority.

many of us here are already very aware of the 'scriptures' which are very specific about what will happen
'after you have received the 'gift' of The Holy Spirit, and then, for some 'un-godly-reason, 'reject it'!!!,
as it is written:
HEB. 6:4.
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the Heavenly gift,
and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5.
And have tasted the good Word of God, and the Powers of the world to come,
6.
If they shall 'fall away', 'to renew them again unto repentance'; seeing they crucify to themselves
The Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open 'shame'.
let's face it brothers and sisters, this is 'the one sin' that we 'cannot 'get away with'!!!
remember, that it is 'conditional', very conditional, we truly have to meet ALL of the criteria
mentioned in the above Scripture...
if some believe 'other-wise', then it is on your plate, and hopefully you will see the error
of your ways...

Jesus is the only one who spoke on this subject and that is the context to what it is. many make more of it than that. Does Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit really need to be more than what Jesus said it is? Can it get any worst than that?

Lost people commit blasphemy all of the time but Christ still reaches out to them Because what???? They know not what they are saying. Only the saved can commit the unforgivable sin.

Matthew 12: 32. Whosoever, means whosoever, does it not? Read what the scripture says, not what you think it says.
