Worry Workarounds

Everybody has things to worry about, but sometimes people have ways to work around them. What's yours? What problems do you not have to worry about because you have found a workaround?

Some people have AAA so they won't have to worry about car breakdowns when they are traveling. Some maintain connections with their family specifically so they will have somewhere to turn if they need a hand.

What's your worry workaround? What do you do that ensures you won't have to worry about a problem most people worry about?

Mine is computers. (This surprises nobody in the whole forum.) Many people worry about the safety of their computers online. Antivirus, firewall, gotta lock that thing down and keep it airtight safe so nobody can hack it. If anybody messed up my computer I couldn't get online...

My computer safety is, I don't have to care about computer safety. My whole computer system is on a flash drive. All my files are stored on multiple offline backups. Go ahead, hack my computer. I don't give a fart in a whirlwind. I'll just stick in another flash drive computer system and keep rolling. I got lots of them because flash drives are cheap. Nobody online can touch anything I care about because nothing I care about is in their reach.

Wait, what? I'm missing the connection... what would happen if you touched it with your right hand instead?

On a side note, not to burst your bubble, If your computer is connected to the Internet then whatever you have can be taken from you even with having a firewall, encryption, an IDS, an IPS, or every access control. There are inherent vulnerabilities and back doors in every piece of hardware and software. Don't worry I am sure no one is after your cat pictures and daily reflections on life challenges that we face as people. Most people don't try to brute force networks anymore anyway. The biggest threat to the cyber security of a computer network is usually between the desk chair and keyboard: us. If we are poorly trained we tend to accidentally reveal our login credentials either through social engineering or through malware. It happens all the time in our line of work and it can happen to anyone.

My mother says I’m too naïve (and dumb) to worry, and in retrospective of my life I’d say she is right😁🤦‍♀️.

Yet, the last years I’ve started worrying about flying. I overcome this by touching the plane with my left hand when embarking if it is a jet. If it is a propeller or a chopper I’m praying. I’m praying when on a jet too.

This is a true story. I had a vivid dream where i was boarding a plane. It was a small ish passenger jet, like a single aisle 2X2 seater and I was seated toward the front. Once seated I looked up and could see inside the cockpit. The piot was just then taking his coat and hat off, hanging it in a small cabin closet and sitting down in the cockpit seat. He was overweight and pushed his gut in a little to nestle in behind the wheel. I looked up again later and the door was shut.

The plane took off without incident, then at about 400 feet the plane banked sharply left and the right wing - the side I was on - shot almost straight up into the sky. The sky was vivid blue with light cirrus clouds wisping in rows across the sky. Then I looked out the windows left and at the ground we were heading toward. I saw toy cars on a highway growing larger, then trees looking like brocolli heads in tragic motion. We were going to crash.

Some time later I had to fly unexpectedly to Jacksonville Florida. It was going to be a day trip and was flying back that night. I got on the plane - a Boeing 737 and not the Max, but the small ish plane. A single aisle with rows of 2 seats on the left and two on the right. I was seated toward the front when the dream came to me and I looked up and could see the open door to the pilot's cabin. The overweight pilot took off his hat and coat and stowed it away and squeezed in to the cock pit, pushing his stomach in to clear the wheel.

The plane took off without incident.

And landed in Jacksonville without incident. I had taken the precaution of touching the plane with my left hand before embarking.
