Whether a person is Christian or not, I notice that romantic love is always seen as something that one has to have in life to be whole. There are songs such as “You’re Nobody Til Somebody Loves You” which literally translates to “you have no worth as a human unless you have a romantic relationship.”
That is dumb. We all know that notion is dumb. But the thing is that it seems sometimes we fall into that idea too. I’ve seen more threads about finding a husband/wife than anything else, from all parts of the internet including here.
Again that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s an understandable desire. Like all of us want to love and be loved. But could it be that we fall into this trap actually because it’s such an important asset? I’ve heard of so many Christian men and women saying that their spouse helped them and supported them spiritually and in their walk in Christ. Could it be the enemy tricks us into putting the relationship over the fact we want this relationship to be a help in our walk? Kinda like cart before the horse? Just spitballing.
