Hey Everyone,

My living situation has varied over the years, but every now and then I have the luxury of not having to share food products with anyone else, and when I happen to find myself in that glorious state of isolated singleness, I confess.

I'm one of THOSE people.

* I eat peanut butter straight out of the jar.

* I snack a canister of raisins - with a spoon - and I double, triple, and quadruple dip.

* If I allowed myself to keep ice cream in the house, I would surely eat it straight out of the carton.

And if you ever came to visit while I have dominion over the refrigerator, you might not want to touch any of the leftovers.

However, my one saving grace is that I do NOT drink straight from the milk carton - I always use a glass - but in all honesty, that's probably just because I'm clumsy and would most likely spill it all over the place.

What about the rest of you? Do you keep all your food mediums pristine and sanitary?

Or do you mark your territory and stake your claim the minute you tear into something?

It depends on the circumstances. Mostly it depends on whether there is any reason to think somebody else will eat or drink the same thing.

I used to get a glass for juice. Then Grandma started watching her sugar and now she will not drink fruit juice any more. (I only drink 100% juices, but that's still too much juice for her.) So these days I often just drink out of the bottle.

If a friend comes to visit for longer than your average dinner, I warn him about that juice bottle. There are other unopened bottles of the same kind of juice in the pantry or wherever I'm stashing them.

I do that too, seoulsearch. And like you said, it's not a problem since I currently live alone. So I don't have to feel guilty or bad about it. ;)

Same here being single has it advantages, plus leaving my clothes in the middle of the floor, not worrying about making up my bed.

I’m a rule follower at heart. Even when I’m the only one to use any food item or container, I use it as if someone else were going to. 😂

Double dipping makes me cringe.

Yes - eat peanut butter out of jar with a spoon...
Yes - eat ice cream out of the carton...
Only if home alone - drink from milk carton - If kids are home - that would be a big no... very careful about trying to avoid spreading the flu germs around and trying to ensure everyone drinks out of their own bottles, cups etc...
Too used to buying groceries for the tribe - so all food in fridge and cupboards are fair game...
Have to make an effort to buy stuff that others like - I typically do not buy all the pastries, chips and sodas that others like...

By all means, Ghoti, tell us all about the milk jug you slurp all over... and then hand back to your wife. 😳😁
You say that like there's something wrong with it??? It saves washing another glass.

Seriously, you'll run tongue with your spouse, but you have to use separate glasses? As Biden would say, "C'mon, Man!"

I would only do the above if there was only enough left for me.
Generally I am sanitary although some people are more sanitary than I am.

I don't double-dip unless the substance has been decanted. Even then, not often.

Definitely drink straight out of milk carton guy here. Not all hope is lost though, I'm still classy enough to drink wine out of the appropriate glass.

Often, carrots and peanut butter are probably the biggest offenders for me. Though sometimes I portion the stuff out just to try to be aware of how much I'm eating.

When you're single anything is fair game.... Why bother to dirty a dish for the chip dip when you are the only one getting into it and double, triple dip all you want as you are the only one eating it.... I used to just open a can of green beans, corn, beets, or carrots and that was a meal just eat it out of the can and toss no dishes and no left overs. Corn had the highest calorie count and you get filled up drink a can of V8 and call it a complete meal....

Also eat out of the peanut butter jar, the squirt whipped cream can right in my mouth....don't really drink out of the cartons unless the juice is down to the last little bit then why bother to dirty a glass?
