Christmas is a special time to remember how Jesus came to earth, and an opportunity to be a missionary at home. I feel sorry for those who are so legalistic they have missed that Jesus!
I wouldn’t say legalistic for the Bible does not command us or even hint that we should remember Christ’s birthday, only to remember His death in communion. It’s a personal preference.

I too celebrate the birth of Christ, but I’m careful not to tie in pagan traditions.

Satan, I mean Santa is off limits in my family.😛

Christmas is as Christ filled as people choose to make it. It is a Holy Celebration of the birth of Christ for some and a pagan celebration for others. Just as ant other day of celebration.

Christmas tree is pagan, then so is the palm tree, right?

Paul said if 4 u it's a sin, it's a sin. For me it is a Holy Day of the birth of Christ regardless of the actual day He was born.

So, do as u wish....just leave me 2 my celebration of Christ, my Lord and Savior.

Give us your thoughts on anything Christmas. Here are some ideas:

Should we celebrate it?
Exchange gifts?
Decorate trees?
Should it be in December?
Wise men
Shepherds
Santa Claus
Etc...
This is all secondary, except that children should be taught that Santa Claus is simply a fake . But the Christmas season is a wonderful opportunity to drive home the Gospel message, and for that reason alone Christians can take advantage of all the *celebrating* to get people to focus the reason for Christ's birth. It is also a great time to show Christian liberality to those who are needy (particularly needy children).

Yes.....unless it violates your conscience. Then you should not.

A little knowledge can educate a person's conscience about this matter and set them free to do the things you listed above.

Jeremiah 10:3-4
For the practices of the peoples are worthless;
they cut a tree out of the forest,
and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.
4 They adorn it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so it will not totter.
Read the last part of the passage you quoted:

3For the customs of the peoples are delusion;
Because it is wood cut from the forest,
The work of the hands of a craftsman with a cutting tool.

4“They decorate it with silver and with gold;
They fasten it with nails and with hammers
So that it will not totter.

5“Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field are they,
And they cannot speak;
They must be carried,
Because they cannot walk!
Do not fear them,
For they can do no harm,
Nor can they do any good.” Jeremiah 10:3-5 NAS

And this:

"we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one." - 1 Corinthians 8:4 KJV

For those who know and are convinced in their heart, idols and false gods are nothing. That is the knowledge that allows some Christians to celebrate Christmas.

You will hear many say bunch of self-righteous things and try to tie in pagan garbage to Christmas. But is you look at the context of what the church and believers do it. There is nothing about pagan in it.

What do we know?

The Birth of Christ
1. The word of God does not tell us the date that Jesus was born we do not know it. Meaning we do not know his Actually birth was on Dec 25. There is no writing of history to confirm that. Why that date ? the church choose that date to combat paganism not to support it. In the early church the Birth of Christ was not something that Rome looked to celebrate. In fact it would have been mocked. The Easter Passover and the Resurrection however, would have been celebrated. It was not until many years later that The Birth of Christ was commemorated. "200 C.E., a Christian teacher in Egypt makes reference to the date Jesus was born. According to Clement of Alexandria,"(Bible History daily2018). we find in church history the date of DEC 25 was deliberately chosen to combat pagan holiday.

The Christmas tree
2. Depending on what history you search from you will get many different things from Queen Charlotte’s compatriot, Martin Luther, the religious reformer, invented the Christmas tree, or 1605 decorated Christmas trees had made their appearance in Southern Germany. In any case the " Christmas tree" was not pagan in it's origin it was commemorative of the birth of Christ in it's earliest traditions.

The wise men , the Shepards.

3. both are mentioned in the gospel. Nothing pagan there :0

Santa
4.St. Nicholas was a Bishop who lived in the fourth century in a place called Myra in Asia Minor (now called Turkey). He was a very rich man because his parents died when he was young and left him a lot of money. He was also a very kind man and had a reputation for helping the poor and giving secret gifts to people who needed it.

The most famous story about St. Nicholas tells how the custom of hanging up stockings to put presents in first started! It goes like this:

There was a poor man who had three daughters. The man was so poor that he did not have enough money for a dowry, so his daughters couldn't get married. (A dowry is a sum of money paid to the bridegroom by the brides parents on the wedding day. This still happens in some countries, even today.) One night, Nicholas secretly dropped a bag of gold down the chimney and into the house (This meant that the oldest daughter was then able to be married.). The bag fell into a stocking that had been hung by the fire to dry! This was repeated later with the second daughter. Finally, determined to discover the person who had given him the money, the father secretly hid by the fire every evening until he caught Nicholas dropping in a bag of gold. Nicholas begged the man to not tell anyone what he had done, because he did not want to bring attention to himself. But soon the news got out and when anyone received a secret gift, it was thought that maybe it was from Nicholas.

Of course secularism today has tranfomed the context of St. Nick however, it is not pagan.

many legalistic church folk will say it is pagan yet being hypocritical as they will to buy gift for their families and participate in what they Hark " It is pagan". it is not. So Merry Christmas Jesus Christ is born and the world has a Savior glory to God in the Highest.

Amen! If certain people are convinced that they cannot, in good conscience, observe a particular Christmas tradition, then they don't need to observe it. If such people are convinced that a particular tradition is too steeped in paganism then they are free to forsake that tradition, yet there is no need to be legalistic about it. At the same time, if we are convinced that we can honor and worship God during Christmas, then we should honor and worship God. For Christians, Christmas can be an important part of the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and it reminds us of that wonderful event that changed the world! So for Christians who celebrate Christmas, let us celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

If you want to get down to the nitty gritty, nearly every holiday is considered pagan by some. Birthdays, anniversaries, etc. etc..

Personally I don't see anything wrong in decorating a tree, your house, whatever. It's not like you're worshiping the tree itself. :rolleyes:

and, whither one celebrates their birthdays or not, people were born on a day that is named after a pagan god, in a month named after a pagan god, in a calendar that was designed by a pope...

My only concern is the heart, my heart. Am I really putting up a tree, decorating the home, stockings, presents and such to bring glory to the Lord, or because I’m just following tradition which is mostly pagan and not biblical?

We know that Jesus was not born in December because after about the month of October in that region, it gets way too cold for the shepherds and the flock to be out in the fields, especially by night.

You CAN make it all about Jesus. :) Tell the Christmas story, go around the room and have everyone say what they're thankful for and what Christmas means to them. I think the way you celebrate a holiday is what would please (or displease) Jesus..

We do all that. We read scripture and give testimonies. But why have we put so much glare and custom around it?

Well, I don't really have a good answer for that, but maybe because they're a slave to tradition and just love any reason to celebrate and dress up?? Long ago, holidays were much simpler and not so garishly celebrated. Today it's all about glitz, and cool presents, which most people are greedy about, IMO. They all want the newest cell phone, the biggest wide-screen TV, etc. etc..

I see it as a calculated effort to turn people’s attention from the Lod Jesus. More children are trusting that Santa will come through for them this Christmas than Jesus Christ, in Christian homes!

Go to a mall and share Luke 2 with people and see people’s reactions. Go to that same mall and preach against Santa...watch WWIII break out.
