A woman came to me yesterday. She was dishearted. She had lost her job, and she hadn't been working long enough to get unemployment money. Her husband, she said, was no good, and not nice at all. She needs to take an exam to get qualified as a skilled nurse assistant, but she knows she will probably fail her paper on Wednesday.

I can't give her a job. I can't give her advice to leave her husband. I can't help her through her exam. I can't even offer to baby sit her two children.

What can I do?

I asked if she wanted to go to church with me next Sunday. She smiled, and said yes, but her husband said it is too expensive to drive the three miles to church. I will probably pick her up.

Church doesn't give her a passed exam, nor a job. But that was the only thing I had to offer. Or what else should I do?

Sometimes just being an ear there to listen and hear other peoples suffering is more important then any remidy you may or may not have to offer.. And of course praying for that persons situation is never a bad thing..:)

The hairdresser place that I used to go to had a hairdresser there who was a buddhist. She was going through a terrible time. She had moved from the other side of the world to Australia to get married. Her husband soon cheated on her and she was in this country with no family or friends. On top of that they had reduced her hours at work so she barely had any work at all, so little to no money.

She managed to get some free legal help and the lawyer allocated to her helped her file for divorce. He was a christian and invited her to church. Being a buddhist (for generations in her family) she was reluctant to go but because she was broken and desperate for help she attended. The lawyer and his wife picked her up each Sunday to take her to church and within a few weeks she gave her life to the Lord. As she was no longer working at the hairdressers I didn't see her so I didn't know she had become a christian.

Roll on about a year I see her again working at another hairdressers I started going to. She looked great and God started working in her life immediately. She regularly attends church. She rents a room from another woman who attends her church and they have become like sisters. She got a new job at this hairdressers and loves it. She's making money to take care of herself and to top it off she is now dating a man from her church.

So my advice would be to take her to church if you can and let God do the rest. Like he helped this hairdresser woman, he will help that lady too.

That's about all you can do; Be an encouraging voice, and offer to drive them to church. Sounds like they are struggling, and being a friend is all you can do.

This was encouraging. Thank you!

Since you are a church member, what's stopping you from going to the pastors or elders of your church and asking them to help this woman? The church itself can help if they have a mind to.

Sounds like she needs a good friend who she can talk to. She seems to feel comfort talking to you about her problems.

you cant solve all her problems. Better to take her to Church or another trustworthy community and gradually help get on her feet. these things take time.

You can just keep praying for her.

"Bless you for being you. Just love and support so often is more valuable than material things.
And, thank you for being you!"
'Praise God'
