Here's an awesome insight. or should that be "incite"?
Watching someone falter in a thread. lose their cool. say things they wouldn't normally say. Lose all sense of politeness and decorum. it does provide popcorn entertainment for the masses. (that is a good word for catholics).
it can give them a sense of superiority..." ah see. that's the wrong way to behave. you gotta be cool like me. look how Christian I am. I would never communicate like that. "
But then there is the one who wont even acknowledge their bad behaviour. They have the self-righteous anger. "Im just calling how I see it. if I hate someone or something I will state my case".
Guess we all think we better than each other..... "im more Christian...I'm more Bible literate...I'm more spiritual.....I'm more borad-minded...I'm more saved...... Im more certain to go to heaven......

The goal is to feel like you are better than they are.

Wait... is that what you're doing here?

"But aren't you using the same tactic to make yourself seem superior to me?"

"Sorry, that accusation expires after one use per conversation."

The funny thing is they wouldn't even have a bible to read without the catholic church!

It is probably accurate that the Catholic Organization began fairly benignly, perhaps even with very good intentions. Luther and Calvin may have started out just as well-intentioned.

But, all three (and more through the years) became "Religious", and went the way of Israel's Pharisees.

When we label people and put them into groups, it allows us to distance ourselves from them and deny them their humanity. Each person, even if they identify with a group, must be seen for who they are. If I cheer for a certain sports team, I have done nothing to deserve kudos when they win. If I say I am a Christian, I can't claim to be better than anyone else (and real Christians would be revolted by the idea of that sort of pridefulness) nor am I guilty for whatever is associated by society, with that group. Whether we use terms like fundamentalist, Protestant or Catholic, we are stereotyping individuals. We are not throwing stones at a group. We are hurting individual people. This is not the unity that is supposed to be a goal of the church. We are not all going to agree but let us be kind. Even if you believe you hold the truth on a subject, sarcasm and insults are not the mark of God's people. The truth without love is nothing. Love can be so hard to live out but we can't ever let go of it as our goal.

Your posts do not bring me down. You open up a lot of conversations and you give people a chance to explore the reality of their lives. I also agree that IFH shares wonderful things. Thank you for posting.

I call it "otherising". We dehumanize those who dont have the same perspective as us.
I do it too. If someone becomes our "enemy" its hard to see them as someone we can show our true selves to. We become fearful of being ourselves in their company. Because this will make us vulnerable to attack. So we bunker down. We can live in the trenches even in a forum like this. Its unfortunate but maybe its the only way we feel safe.

You make very good points. Isn't it a shame that we have to worry about attacks? I wish we could just toss a topic on the table and all contribute to the conversation. No one needs to tear down someone else's ideas or character. Just state your own thoughts. I miss being able to do that. It used to be so much fun to play with ideas and come away from the experience full of life. Yes we are going to see things differently but why can't we let God guide each of us on our own journeys? I was brought up in the church and always believed. I was aware of God as a constant in my life. It wasn't until we moved and I was in a new church with youth who loved each other and loved me that I became aware of lordship. My heart broke. It was their love, not their judgement that took me from belief to being all in. I guess that that is why I cringe when I read the name calling. It does such damage and shuts down people who may be in desperate need of fellowship.
Thank you for the term "otherising". It is very good.

Another issue on here is speed. It tends to become "chat" rather than conversation. Keep it light which i understand because i like humour too. But people need deeper conversation imo. where they can admit weaknesses without fear of attack. Trusting each other? Fellowship is just an ideal? So we only trust Jesus and battle on by ourselves? ...

Is it ok to say "Praise the wife" instead of "Praise the Lord" at home?

Saying "praise the wife" is a command you give to other people. Actually going ahead and praising the wife to other people will probably have a more favourable result. :)

more faith needs more faith and more compassion for the people who express their dislike of him. Alls fair. I dont like everyone either. My expectations of others can be too high.
But the dislike icon here is used as a kind of weapon. trouble is the more they use it the more impotent it becomes, and makes them look like part of the problem.
I don't think ive used it. Maybe I have. I don't know. I don't plan to anyway.
