The gospel?

2098. euaggelion
Strong's Concordance
euaggelion: good news

Original Word: εὐαγγέλιον, ου, τό
Part of Speech: Noun, Neuter
Transliteration: euaggelion
Phonetic Spelling: (yoo-ang-ghel'-ee-on)
Definition: good news
Usage: the good news of the coming of the Messiah

The gospel is the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ coming in the flesh to function as the spotless lamb so that the just punishment we deserve could be taken by Him and by grace through faith His righteousness imputed to us.

1. We are sinners who deserve Gods righteous judgement.

2. God will only accept absolute perfection into heaven.

3. It is by Jesus we fallen people can be adopted and seen as sons/daughters of God.

1. We hear the truth.

2. Upon belief and faith IN Christ (an indwelling response to the truth, not a choice you make) you are born again as sons and daughters of God.

3. We are imputed with His righteousness so that we may be accepted into such a Holy kingdom and escape what we deserve without His grace.

Our mind changes through belief in the gospel, He changes our inner man.

3341. metanoia
Strong's Concordance
metanoia: change of mind, repentance

Original Word: μετάνοια, ας, ἡ
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Transliteration: metanoia
Phonetic Spelling: (met-an'-oy-ah)
Definition: change of mind, repentance
Usage: repentance, a change of mind, change in the inner man.

TLDR?

1. God is not only loving, He is also just and will bring justice to evil.
2. We have done evil and deserve His justice.
3. God has sent His son and came in the flesh out of mercy and love and lived a perfect life so that whosoever will have faith in Him will be imputed with Christs righteousness and thier sins will be paid for by His grace.

(Faith is belief of, trust in, confidence in, fidelity/ loyalty to Christ)

We don't place our assurance for salvation in our wisdom, nor our walk but in Christ Himself.

Then out of love (not obligation) for who loved us first (as well as others), we function as His body to show the world His love here on earth while being chastened or encouraged by the Holy spirit and looking to Him to lead us...
Status quo theological jargon that contains part of the truth, so mainstream we think it is the truth. But it’s not true to the canon of Scripture. I’ve heard such sermons so based that the child molester can rejoice that God only sees the righteousness of Christ. Absurd. The worshipper has no idea what it means to live by Jesus as He lived by the Father. “My sheep hear My voice and I know them and they follow Me.” But the soulish Christian is free to lean on his own understanding today and walk in his own way consequently the things he does are not done to the glory of God because Christ is not Head. This is status quo religion, but not Bible. Jesus came to baptize us in the Holy Spirit, as His forerunner testified. But such theology has no need for why He truly came. The worshipper continues in sin as well, the very acts Jesus came to destroy. He has promised to love those who obey His teaching. “Abide in My love. If you keep My commands you will abide in My love just as I have kept My Father’s commands and abide in His love. Let’s drop theology and just take up the sword of the Spirit and talk in His language. Such Christian Talmud as a lot of you guys spout kept me in sin and from being able to live by faith and cease from my own works to do His will instead. Our family’s peace would be shot and Christ would no longer be Lord.

So much wrong with this post...

Not biblical in nature.... sounds like every other false religion filled with to do lists to trust in opposed to Christ.....

You need some help... and I hope this place is a blessing to you

I suggest you stop by the not by works thread, you may be blessed with something God wants you to see...

For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works.

You guys can just never get to legal tender can you? Always just one-sided coins. Everything Jesus taught was about what we do. Faith without works is dead. You nicely exemplify why Martin Luther wanted the book of James removed from the Scriptures. The fine linen the Bride of Christ will be adorned with is her righteous acts. You are filled with gross misunderstandings if you think a Spirit led life is a life of to-do lists. I need help? You guys are hilarious. Go and sin no more and whatever is not from faith is sin. Always resisting the Holy Spirit. "Follow the Way of love and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy" - just one of the many commands of the Holy Spirit to you and me.

I was raised in church and a Christian family. I "accepted Jesus in to my heart" at the tender age of 5 and was baptized in water at the age of 8. I was a "good" boy all around - assured of having my sins forgiven and that I was going to Heaven because of what Jesus had done for me and because, of course, I believed in Him. Why else do you think we would go to church?
Well, puberty rolled around and I found my thrill. I was lost in lust though my church attendance never dwindled. Addicted to pornography, masturbation and fornication everyone still saw a nice young believer in Christ. When suddenly, God sovereignly put a passionate desire in me for His Word on 3/4/96 during my sophomore year in college and I began to see glorious and at times terrifying things that I never heard in all my years in church. One of the first things I saw was that I wasn't free to go on in my sins, not by trying not to but by faith. This ultimately brought me to the precipice of suicide by the fall of '99 cause I just could not stop. Well, thank God that I was a part of a fellowship that understood that Jesus said we would cast out demons and that's what they did with me. Now, no longer under compulsion, I was free to appropriate by faith what Jesus had done for me and on 2/20/2000 I was baptized in water and received the circumcision of my heart, as we see in Colossians 2. I might add, God showed up at that service and 300 people simultaneously began crying when I came up out of the water because of His presence. It was powerful. So then, the Lord Jesus began to reveal His Kingdom to me. I was baptized with the Holy Spirit and began waiting upon Him all the day. Jesus actually became Lord over my life and I was free to offer myself to Him as a living sacrifice. His Sabbath-Rest has been glorious for me and my family and He truly is the Prince of Peace. "The sons of God are those who are being led by the Spirit of God," Romans 8:14, and as is previously stated in that chapter, He has taken me from a life lived based on my soul (what I want, think and feel) to a life directed by His Spirit and not according to the sinful nature. We have to deny our souls, take up our cross and follow Him. David said in Psalm 16, "I have set the Lord before me continually". In religion, I had the language of following Jesus but not the reality. I was what the Bible refers to as a mocker. The Greek word for an actor is (basically) hypocrite.
Part of becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ is that the church no longer accepts me if I state any of this. It's ok if I keep my mouth shut but if I begin to state things like the Greek word translated as "forgiveness" in our New Testaments is the Greek word "aphesis" which means freedom, leadership begins to frown, especially when Jesus said that everyone who sins is a slave of sin and that a slave has not permanent place in the household but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free you are free indeed.
I did not believe the Gospel of the Kingdom, the one Jesus preached, when I was growing up. But I did believe "a" gospel. And if you want to get to the root of it, you have to go all the way back to Genesis 3. Satan has never had to change his tactics because they have always worked: "Did God really say that?" "You shall not surely die." "You shall be like Him" and you are also going to disobey Him the whole way. Religion had told me that I was always going to be a rebel against God and remain in sin but also that when I see Him I would be like Him for I would see Him as He is. Furthermore, religion had taught me nothing about the Kingdom of God. I thought that just meant heaven. I didn't know it meant the Way Jesus walked, from above the sun. 1 John 2 reveals to us that we must walk as Jesus walked and He confessed that He did nothing on His own initiative but only what the Father told Him. So the first "gospel" I believed in didn't require my death and resurrection in to a new life. See Romans 6 about the death. We must be born of water and the Spirit. It was formerly hidden from my eyes that the 4 gospels explicitly state that Jesus came to baptize us with the Holy Spirit - that's how John introduces Him and if you are a student of Scripture you know you need to take special attention when God starts repeating things as He does with "If you eye causes you to sin, gouge it out for it is better for you to enter life having one eye than having 2 eyes and be cast in to Hell" which He repeats in Matthew. See, that formerly didn't make any sense to me when I believed the contemporary American version of the gospel.
So when I hear people say "the gospel" in this 21st century, I tend to cringe because I know it is not likely that it is the Gospel of the Kingdom but rather the one I believed growing up. I was left in my sins, left in Egypt. Pharoah still had me in bondage. I had no idea what the pillar of cloud and of fire signified in my life and thought the Promised Land was heaven. (Not sure how the Philistines and all the 'ites would be there, but we didn't think about that.) Anyway, we desperately need a revolution. There is a different gospel, just as Paul stated in 2 Cor. 11, and frightfully, it is accompanied by a different Jesus and spirit. My Jesus when I was growing up never would have done that to Ananias and Sapphira and there was certainly no danger of Him ever vomiting me out of His mouth. I had the gentle Jesus, meek and mild.
Because the Gospel of the Kingdom is different from the modern gospel in this country, my family and I are not welcome in church and that's not right. A modern gospel has caused the salt to lose its savor and the meat is rotting. We do not need to point our fingers at the world. We need to point them at ourselves and repent and lose our religious prejudices and humbly accept what is written. It took me a while to lose my religion. It had a power and I could not see. The Bible was closed to me and hard and my life was messy. Jesus was not head over all things to me. I was. And I make a terrible god. "No one who is born of God sins but He who was born of God keeps him and the Evil One does not touch him." The Bible isn't complicated. Religion is and the world is reeling.
Salt is used in the bible to represent judgment .it has been turned upside down to represent something that preserves. Which it can but not according to the Bible. We should add a little salt to the gospel as the letter of the law.

One thing that seems to be a constant that causes confusion is the idea of a "signs gift" or the charismatic approach. The two words sign and gift are not found working together to create a doctrine. Where the idea originated seems to be a mystery.

Signs and wonderment or a amazement gospel can today include baptism.. which is a old testament ceremonial law as a shadow used when a new priest had a desire to be part of the gospel . It remains a shadow .

The idea of making spiritual gifts not seen available to the eye or the ear is not a bible teaching..

No outward confirmation from the Spirit or that some call self-edification.. 300 crying because someone gets wet does not make the shadow become sight. It remains a shadow left up to the person. . . if he wants to be part of the show .

Its what lifeless spiritless H20 does. . . get something wet. What is it you hope it performs?

It would seem you simply are not walking by faith. the unseen eternal but rather putting your hope in what the eyes see the temporal . The 20/20 prescription below must be put on if we are to find the gospel hid from those who have no faith to see past their nose..

2 Corinthians 4:18While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Other than getting one wet it provides no salvation substance. No confirming sign gifts. The tears of 300 watching the show does not move us any closer. H20 evaporates without a trace

Nadab and Abihu tried to give it a personal touch in a hope of confirming their flesh profited for something in the hall of fame (false pride) . The sign of confirmation backfired. Consumed them and not a hint of smoke on the cerinimoinal clothing.

We walk by faith the unseen. Not by observing shadows. . . the temporal.

Leviticus 10:1-3 King James Version (KJV) And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from the Lord, and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the Lord spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

You have nothing to say in response then. Ok. But I tell you I can't even get breakfast in the morning without Jesus, who delivered me from sin, who circumcised my heart and caused me to become a slave to God, the only freedom a man can know. Beautiful grace and power and love, some so much more wise than myself call dribble. God have mercy.

You think I have nothing to say?

I explained why it is difficult to talk to someone who suffers from a poor foundation while also pointing thier finger....

Here is one example of you taking a verse out of context.

Seems to me the point you are fighting for while using this, is to call this a command by which to maintain salvation.

But when Jesus said it to that woman it was proper encouragement for righteousness to a loved one... She was caught, brought before Him and He said he who is without sin cast the first stone

He says He does not condemn her

not because of her actions.... He is her Lord...

every verse you take out of context has been addressed here multiple times by multiple people

You have some false understandings youre holding on to and they arent of God or biblical...

maybe calm down a bit

stop with the silly jabs to rile others up

and be honest and discuss verses without spinning or twisting

Right now you seem like one of the very....very common work salvationists with a charasmatic twist.....

You probably think being born of water is baptism....

Be careful...... those who trust in "many wonderful works" and Christ "never" knew who even claimed they casted out demons.... did not trust in Christ... which is why they pointed to thier works for justification and which is why Christ never..... never knew them

(now i could make a post this long for every other sentence you typed... its not that i have nothing to say it...its that ive said it all before hundreds of times over the years and im a busy man... there are also elder brothers and sisters here with more experience and patience and wisdom and time)

LOL living by whose faith as a labor of love? of your ownself?

Sounds like you had the same idea of them?

They were simply looking to confirm a work they performed of getting wet, the confirmation backfired when they made it about a personal touch in a hope of confirming something??.

I am quite confident to what faith as a work is .. Who it comes from and who it belongs to as imputed righteousness .Ceremonial laws as shadows at the most get a person wet... Crying a river will not change the showtime . It will evaporate in a matter of time .

We walk by faith the unseen eternal. Christ's, the faith of God's labor .Called a work of faith. According to Philippians 2 it works in us . . not of us to both will and do His good pleasure. No murmuring.

Right.

Many people do misunderstand such things, just like:

"having been buried with Him in THE baptism..." (refers here to His "DEATH," His actual DEATH on the Cross--nothing whatsoever to do with "water," here), Colossians 2:12

I repented was baptized and Jesus purified my heart by faith. He has now become Lord of my life. He and the Father are in heaven - His Spirit is here with us. The obedience of faith is beautiful. Hearkening unto His voice - living on every Word which proceeds from His mouth. When a man's face shines with the glory of God, it is attestation. God's free to move as He pleases and to perform acts through His chosen, according to the Scriptures. Pharisees will always mock until one day their mouths are shut. Jesus Christ is Lord and coming again. Those who belong to Him have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Praise the Lord! Freedom (aphesis) from sins.. by faith, the gift of God.

You are a wise, busy man, with so many around you, and I stand here so unwise, so alone like Micaiah and you just don't have the time to respond to the Scriptures I don't use in a 21st century Christian way. Vashti didn't do what the king told her and so she had to be replaced by one beautiful and submissive. If Vashti was permitted to go on, the disrespect would have gone though out the king's whole realm. Wives would rise against husbands and their would be no end to disrespect or discord - like we see today. He cleansed my heart in His power and love so that now I can worship Him since He's given me His Spirit. And it is beautiful to worship Him. The fruit of righteousness is peace and those who are pure in heart shall see Him. He commanded our perfection and thank God, Hebrews beautifully shows the Way. Today if we hear His voice, we must not harden our hearts as Vashti did and as Israel in the wilderness did - who are an example to us in all they suffered, 1 Cor. 10. We have been grafted in as those were broken off. If He didn't spare those natural branches, He won't spare us either. Scripture commands us to behold not only the kindness of God but also His severity. That's good currency. We serve the Lord with fear and we rejoice with trembling. We kiss the Son, lest He be angry and we be destroyed in our own way. For His anger can flare up in a moment but blessed are all who take refuge in Him. Not the Jesus of the contemporary church in this country generally - not by a long shot. I didn't have to fear the Lord. I knew I was going to Heaven. I was in my sins. I was a good Christian. Esther will replace her. The ruins will be rebuilt and He will fill this temple with greater glory than it previously had. The Church will not go out with all the sins filling the church now b/c of these doctrines of demons. Nor will it go out, the glory having departed. The rod no longer buds, no longer flowers or produces almonds and the world sees and scoffs. I'm sorry someone so wise as you has no time to spend on a fool like me. I just can't knit the Word of God together with the web of theology from the schools. I'm just a poor fisherman with no more sense than to just take the Bible as it says. The Bible I have studied, taught and listened to throughout the day for 23 years. I was a good Christian in my sins. In my walking in my own way.

I would add.

The faith of Christ that alone comes by hearing God .It as a first work , works in the believer to both will and perform His good pleasure He caused the first work of Him turning us so that in turn we can repent. .We do not turn him. he is of one mind and always does whatsoever his soul pleases . for he performs that which he appoints to us. He alone can make our hard hearts soft and give us rest. . So that we in turn we can comfort our own selves knowing Christ's work of faith or labor of love satisfied the just demands of the letter of the law.

He is a God of cause and effect. The just and justifier of our new born again faith. Previously having none, zip, nada . . . not little. . dead.

No way to seek and therefore understand... he must do the first work in creating new creatures or no man could repent. .

Be not removed from the simplicity found in Christ.

It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

He that believes on the Sonnis having everlasting life.

It is not that difficult...MEN make it difficult and corrupt the gospel on a regular basis by ADDING to the above factual truths!

"Narrow is the gate and difficult the Way which leads to life and few are they that find it," our Lord said. He went on to say that only he who does the will of My Father in Heaven will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Everyone who hears His Words and puts them in to practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. When hit with an incredible storm it did not fall b/c it had its foundation on the rock. But the Master also said that all of us who hear His Words but do not put the on to practice are like foolish men building their houses on sand. The same storm caused such a house to fall with a great crash. How I could wish all 10 virgins will get to go in to the wedding feast, but it is not so. Religion says yes, God's Word no. Jesus even wondered aloud at one point if He would find any faith on Earth when He returned! Wow. Look at the zeal mentioned there. Elsewhere it is recorded that we cannot be the Master's unless we give up everything we have. Painful. The Holy Spirit through Peter tells us that it is hard for the righteous to be saved - what then will become o the ungodly and the sinner? John adds that everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God and that no one who is born of God sins. What an incredible word then "believe" really is, if we can hear what God is saying. Salvation is free but it is not cheap - that is for sure! We must keep ourselves in the love of God as Jude implores. Jesus told us that is by obeying His teaching: back to the house on the rock. Flies in the face of modern religion, which accuses of handling Scripture falsely. But its been handled so falsely for so long that when it's not it sounds like blasphemy to the masses claiming their place in Heaven. But may His Kingdom come, His will be done on Earth just as it is in Heaven. Let us all obey Him and pray that today. He is the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him. I love the Word of God. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ! Every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord to the glory of the Father. His Name and renown are the desires of our hearts. We are not so worried about claiming what is ours. Our concern is with Him receiving His due: the glory, the honor, the praise, the blessing!

^ "The kingdom of the heavens" is the promised and prophesied earthly Millennial Kingdom.

Jesus is not coming to "MARRY" the "TEN Virgins" (NOR even "FIVE [PLURAL]" of them!) At that point in the chronology [Matt25:1-13, see esp.v10 (nasb makes more clear, for example)], He will be RETURNING to the earth as an "ALREADY-WED Bridegroom," FOR "the wedding FEAST/SUPPER" i.e. the earthly MK age (as in Luke 12:36-37,38,40,42-44 "when he will RETURN FROM the wedding..." THEN the meal! [elsewhere known as the "G347 - 'shall sit down [around a table/at a meal]'"], and other related passages...)

To blur the distinctions between our "union with [G4862]" Christ, and THIS ^ , is to misunderstand what certain passages like this Matthew 25:1-13 pertains to.

The will of the Father is to BELIEVE on Him whom he sent...!! And Peter does not use the word hard.......he said if the RIGHTEOUS scarcely be saved.....one cannot twist the word to fit their own personal narrative!

For what it's worth, I prefer to use Scripture to define things. The best definition of the gospel is found in this passage. Notice how the first verse defines the topic, which is the gospel.

"Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8 and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born." 1 Cor. 15:1-8

If you want to define how we are saved, Romans 10 is loaded with information!

"But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: 9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." Romans 10:8-13

Repentance is also a necessity, but then we are moving into a different aspect of soteriology!

I would like the OP to define what he means by the gospel, using the Bible and in context Bible passages. Thanks!
