Had a conversation with some friends. They have the in-laws over for a week. They have given up their bed for that week for the in-laws to sleep in, as in his parents. So the daughter-in-law is sleeping in a twin bed and her husband is sleeping on the floor.
Now to me, my bed that I share with my spouse is ours. In a way I feel like sharing your bed with someone is like sharing your underwear. If you are going to wear my underwear....well you are just weird and I don't want it back. It's a personal thing. So I kinda feel the same with my bed. My spouse, yes, she is a part of me and me her. But to give it up for her parents or mine? Nope! Sorry! That's ours!
I'll offer to pay for them to stay in a motel or something.
Likewise, if I was offered some other married couple's bed to sleep in, I would refuse. I would rather buy a tent and sleep in the yard than sleep in their bed.
A couple of years ago the kids and I were visiting a friend overnight. She kicked her son out of his bed for me to sleep in. She had plans that evening and wouldn't be home till late. I told her son to sleep in his own bed, I will sleep on the sofa.
And I know that when I go to a motel or some place like that, that I am sleeping in a bed that someone else has slept in, and in many ways it may be a lot more gross than sharing my bed with other people, but it is not someone's personal bed.
Maybe I'm odd (pretty sure of it) but that's the way I think!
Would or do you share your bed?
