Do you celebrate your birthday or do you go somewhere to hide?

What do you do, have a cake with candles, invite people over, have a day off work, or just ignore it? Or do you only celebrate milestones, like evry ten years.

Do you look forward to them or dread them?

I’m a ham, I’m totally ok with being sung at. My family usually just goes out to dinner for birthdays at a restaurant, get a free dessert and that’s pretty much it. If we end up doing something else along with that, most of the time it’s by the birthday persons request.

Every so often I like to make it special and go to the English tea room that’s a few towns over.

Some restaurants let you dine free on your birthday, if you bring friends. I dont think you allowed to dine by yourself lol. You also have to show them proof its actually your birthday.

Speaking of birthdays, we've always had them simple. Only my eldest sister had her debut, a celebration wc the others or I didn't think we had to have. These days we still observe simple celebrations, none of the long guest lists, decors, etc., which were more part of a dedication when the children were wee.

Not dread them, I am just thankful, and encourage us to pray thanksgiving. Now we sometimes eat out, but sometimes just get ice cream (and cake for the younger ones) and prepare something else. I told the children how, when we were young and going to catholic church, we'd often strive to go on birthdays (and often Christmas and New year as well), hoping that would bring us closer to God even when we missed many other sundays=).

In Canada we have a lot of freebies. I've already claimed my free burger at Red Robin's. Landry Club restaurants give you a $25 credit every year during your birthday month, IHOP gives you a free stack of pancakes, free beverage at Starbucks, free dessert at Montana's or Olive Garden or Boston Pizza, Denny's gives you a free Grand Slam breakfast, or a burger at Harvey's. Most of these places require you to sign up for their club (free) to get your treat.
If you are in another country I'd google "free birthday food in _________"
