Itchycoo Park by Small Faces :)

"It's all too beautiful" :D:giggle::D
Itchycoo Park was the local slang name of Valentine Park in Ilford East London. It was called that because it was full of stinging nettles
which stung kids and courting couples. Rod Stewart was one of the original band members.

Spring was never waiting for us girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground beneath your knees
The birds like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing Chinese checkers by the trees

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo

[Instrumental Interlude]

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left my cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to make it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo

MacArthur Park was written by Jimmy Webb and performed first and best in 1968 by Richard Harris after being turned down by the Association. Donna Summer's cover version of this song was her first number one hit single, and many others have covered it also, including Waylon Jennings, Glen Campbell, The Four Tops, Andy Williams, and also parodied as Jurassic Park by Weird Al Yankovic :giggle: My favourite will always and forever be Richard Harris' original

Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance

Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain

I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again, oh noooooo

There would be another song for me
For I will sing it
There would be another dream for me
Someone will bring it

I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life, you'll still be the one

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky

And after all the loves of my life
Oh, after all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you - and wondering why

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down

Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh noooooo, o-oh no-ooooo

Here is the complete lyric for MacArthur Park :)
This song reminds me of my first serious Girlfriend. She was a student teacher and we used to play records and drink Cider in her College room tying to work out the ''deeper meaning'' to the lyrics. I wasn't saved then but I was searching for the truth .

MacArthur Park came out when I was 13, and I have always loved it :D It ranked #51 on the Billboard Top 100 for that year (1968). So many great songs came out that year :D This one made #19 :)

My brief reflection - on 1960's & 70's..
----
It was one of most creative periods in history.
- Also, time for 'Counterculture'...
-----
Many enduring/classic songs were composed during those days.
A few days ago, I got into conversation with a young fellow at coffee shop.
- He told me, " I like music/songs of 60's/70's! "
---
Interesting to note..
1960's/70's were pioneering days of 'Contemorary Christian Music.'
---
My spiritual journey started in 1970's.
- During Jesus Movement.

Blessings,

My wife and I saw them in concert at Wembly Arena London during the 1980s I was always a great fan of their music. In an interview
they were asked the meaning of some of their songs. They said there wasn't any!!

Enjoyed going through the video's
I was born in the Mid 60's so i only got into mustic in the 70's But my mother had the radio playing most of the day and she had it on a radio station that liked the 1960's music.. So when i played your 60's video's i knew 90% of them. :)

The first music i was introduced to was heavy metal from AC DC but i was not really into it.. The first band i liked was ELO,, Electric Light Orchestra. My older sister who was 13 at the time got their Album a New World Record.. But she hardly ever played it.. I played it again and again and again until i knew each song perfectly.. They did change later in the 1970's and went a bit disco pop..

This song on the Album was personally prophetic for me.. Years later Somebody we all know, threw me down a line and stopped me from drowning when i became a Christian in my early 20's :giggle: The change from Night to Day was only a few hours, literally..

i watched my brother bring home vinyl album after album from the mid to late sixtees. played at 33 and a half speed. buy a new stylus needle every 6 months. the sound quality was so good. beatles especially. revolver to sgt. peppers to magical mystery tour to Abbey Road. Such a wealth of quality music. I was privileged to grow up at that time.
I also remember J C Superstar plus the abum HAIR. It really was an explosion of creativity. Guess Im a biased baby boomer. 😁
