How many of us truly know,
brothers and sisters,
who and how we ought to be?
I do,
but for myself I lack the courage
and the know-how to be that person.
Only You can take me there, my Lord.
Without you I am nothing.
I am an abstract notion
of what could and could have been,
a mere reflection of the lost potential.
Without You, I am a good idea,
or a well painted canvas
displaying one person
in front of one possible life,
neither of which ever came to be.
I cross myself my Lord, and I know,
only in You, I am who I’m meant to be.
