Cliff Notes: Columbus is not as bad as folks make him out to be. The monster they put together is a composite picture of the worst crimes committed in his day.

Agreed. For example in history you can see the God inspired acts within Biblical History. For example during Moses's theocracy slaves was treated way better than the rest of the world. But today we view all kinds of slavery wrong. Woman was merely just a house maid and bearer of children. But in the New Testament you find verses speaking of woman in much equal terms.

Over history God slowly inspires mans actions to bring about His greater good. So when people just disregard the fact of a different time period and that God was working in people regardless of histories ugliness. To say they should of known better may be accurate to some degree but I am positive people will look back on us as Christians and say they should of known better also.

With that in mind Christopher Columbus definitely was a better man than most realize and in comparison to others in that time period.

Sadly, only in America can one be celebrated for discovering America when 8 million people were already living there. As well, a plethora of evidence shows that Columbus was not the first European to reach the New World...….

As for his personal life...….. It's no big deal to me. Spanish explorers did far worse things than he.

Not the purpose for celebrating Columbus Day as a holiday. Purpose is that Columbus was the beginning of mainstream European exploration of the Americas and of course this led to the colonization of North America. Others may have arrived first but that didn't spark the European exploration. The European exploration and colonization is important history because that is how America was founded regardless if Indians lived here.

A famous spanish explorer from a long time ago who came across 'the new world'?
Thats all I know.

I thought you were going to give a bio or something.

One explorer I found most interesting was Jacques Cousteau in the last century. He (and his diver mates) sailed all around the world in a converted minesweeper called Calypso, and filmed underwater. He perfected the aqualung.

Thanks to his efforts, we know a lot more about the life thats in our oceans than in all the last centuries, and not only that, and entire continent Antarctica is protected for a number of years from exploitation as a sanctuary for wildlife.

at one time he did have an idea that humans would colonise the seas and live underwater...but when he tried it it didnt really work out....!

So the Beatles song 'we all live in a yellow submarine' didnt actually become a real thing for everyone.

I posted 1 article today and 1 last year listed above that basically speak against the lies or out of context history that our revisionist use to try and make anything American or related evil.

We have people here who now see Columbus as evil and wants him to be erased from American history. Plus to change our holiday to Indigenous Peoples day rather than Columbus Day. Many believe we celebrate it because he found America but that isn't why. It was his life that stirred up events to lead to Britain's search for the New World and eventually the Pilgrims.

Cristobal Colon, Christopher Columbus, was an Italian explorer who, in seeking an ocean route to the far east by traveling west happened upon the new world.

At first he was under the impression he had landed in the east Indies, ergo the term Indian for everyone who inhabited the Caribbean and the continents.

Were it not for his endeavor, the western cultures would not have proliferated and progressed. Now whether it was true progress or no, is up to the student to determine for himself.

He did not found any form of slavery, that came later. It is sad how the people of the world today are so ignorant and unwilling to learn truth.

It was sthe English and the Dutch who had a world system of human trafikkiing. there were others of course, but Columbus was and remains the explorer who accidentally exposed the new world to the old while seeking a new route to the east..

Anyone who has concocted some story about his bein a slaver is simply ignoring historic facts available in the local library. That is unless the writings on him have been piled up and burned..

explorers usually dont have much control over who comes after them and for what reasons.
for example, Edmund Hillary was known as the first to climb mt everest with his guide Tenzing Norgay.

It was because it seems nobody had reached the top before, or survived to tell everyone.
nowadays mt everest has become kinda like a tourist destination for extreme mountaineers from all over the globe.

The nepalese may not to be too happy with the increased traffic though, they cant actually stop people from wanting to climb the mountain.

(thats doest mean to say mt everest is colonised by the british or whoever, or its been discovered, its just means we know people can go there)

I never celebrated Columbus Day other than enjoy a three day weekend.

It does seem to me that wherever an explorer from Europe went, someone else was always there.

You can call them explorers but Christopher Columbus was looking for a better trade route due to the growing hostility of Islam. The trade routes on land became filled with bandits and Islamic slave activity.

He also wanted to evangelize the Christian faith.

But with anything related to history today, you will have revisionist.

This is one just like Thomas Jefferson they love to attack.

In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue?

I used to pick out obscure holidays to bandy about when they happened just to be funny in grade school....

Like Leif Erikson day lol

I don't really know much about Columbus except I think there were 3 boats? Santa maria, hispaniola, and something with a p, perhaps pinata? I also recall he was trying to find a way to the east that way and some monarch (Elizabeth?) commissioned him and yet it was Spanish so I seem to have some details askew. Time to refresh maybe.

An honest history would be refreshing to read about, and perhaps I'll delve into it at a later date. It does seem that any Christian references in antiquity have been "scrubbed" out for whatever purpose so perhaps there are some productive forays into his history.

All I know is what I was taught in school, but I’m just adding a fun video to the thread, cause PragerU did a video about him a day ago, thought it might be fun to share:

It's okay most people do not even remember what you did or they repeat the memes of social media.

Christopher Columbus began a period of brave western exploration, migration, international trade, the spreading of Christianity, and would ultimately lead to the greatest democratic creation in human history.

That is why we celebrate his accomplishments. Not for solely discovering a new world which was true for Europe because they knew nothing about the Americas.

Prayer U is great. Liberal media has banned them from Twitter and censors them on Facebook. That is how we know they are speaking truth lol.
