Hello to everyone out there! I have been searching for a decent chat site, where respect and decency is the norm. I've joined some recently as I moved, but they were full of people swearing, making dirty jokes, and asking me for personal info, or for 'adult' conversations - not my thing at all.
I am not a Christian, but studied with the Jehovah's Witnesses who had some very odd ideas. I eventually left as I got completely confused by everything they were telling me. They were all quite nice people, but I could not agree with their version of God's word. I didn't get baptised, but was made to feel completely ostracised and guilty about disassociating with them.
Greetings and Welcome, Tasha66,

Regarding the Jehovah's Witnesses, it is best to get right to the root of the problem with them. The prophecy in Isaiah 7:14 regarding Christ, states that "The Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and she will call Him Immanuel" The Hebrew word "Immanuel" means "God with us," which is referring to the Son of God who would be born of a virgin, i.e. Jesus Christ, God in the flesh.

The JW's Jesus is a created being, as they believe Him to be Michael the Archangel incarnate. So right off the bat they have a counterfeit Jesus. No created being could pay the penalty for the sins of mankind, but only the Holy and righteous God himself. Therefore, if you ever have to deal with JW's, just cut to the chase with them, because unless they believe that Jesus (as God) came in the flesh, then everything else they tell you is in vain. It is the same with Mormon's in that, they also believe that Jesus is a created being, the spirit brother to Lucifer, both being wrong of course.

Just as through Adam all have sinned. Likewise, through faith in the shed blood of Christ all are made righteous. He kinned himself to mankind, i.e. became a human being in order to redeem us, the righteous for the unrighteous.

I then met a girl who was part of a new Christian church, where they believe in speaking in tongues, rolling their eyes etc. That was a bit too weird for me as well. So I don't know what to believe in anymore!
I have many questions re the bible, God and Jesus, so you can all help me out.
I hope you are all well tonight and that I can make some new friends!
Cheers :)
Regarding " I don't know what to believe in anymore," I would say to stick with the word of God. When someone shares scripture with you, be like the Bereans and search those scriptures to see if they're true. Neither speaking in tongues, nor rolling ones eyes (that's a new one) has any part in saving anyone. We are saved by trusting in Christ alone as the One who provided salvation for us by the shedding of His blood.

Again, Welcome!

Thanks Ahwatukee! I was told by the JW's that when you pray to God, you have to use special terms and call him by his hebrew name'Yahwee' (spelling?). I don't want to come on here & 'bash' someone's faith though. I'm just relating my experiences. It seems every church or religion has it's own interpretation of Bible verses. I have done some bible study but need to do more. That's one reason why I have joined here - to learn, and develop a personal relationship with God & Jesus. To me, at this stage of my learning, that's probably more important than arguing over semantics re Bible verses, though that will be interesting once I get into it!

Hello again Tasha! Not to appear to be rushing you or anything, but the only way to develop a relationship with the Lord is to first say "yes, I believe that I am a sinner and that I believe that you paid the penalty for all of my sins." Once you or anyone does that, then as we go from faith to faith we are being transformed into image of Christ, which is the life-long process of being sanctified, i.e. the process of being made holy. It will be completed when we are changed from mortal to immortal and glorified when the Lord appears where both the dead and the living in Christ are changed and caught up to meet the Lord in the air, as described in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
