Who is your favorite Biblical character?

Paul and Ruth.. these two I can relate to through and through..

I don't think i have any favourites. But there are certain incidents that happened that involved particular persons, that have struck a chord.

A few of them are...

When Gideon wanted God to show him a sign, he ask that God let the fleece be wet but the floor dry. When God did this, he then said, let the fleece be dry and the floor wet.

When Esther decided to go before her husband the king, she didn't know if she would live or die. But she said, if I perish, I perish.

Vashti was the queen before Esther. When the king wanted her to show off her beauty in front of his friends, she refused. I'm not sure why, but I just thought: you go girl!

Jesus losing his cool and whipping the money changers out of the temple.

The man who went up to pray and said, be merciful to me a sinner.

God told moses that he would, destroy the children of Israel who came out of Egypt, and raise up a new generation. But Moses told God not to, lest Israel's enemies were to hear about it, and say God destroyed His people. In the end, these same people caused Moses not to see the promised land. How sad.

When Nathan told David about a man who had many sheep, yet goes and steals the poor man's one sheep. After David pronounced judgement on the rich man, Nathan then said to him, thou art the man!

When there was the storm and Jesus was sleeping in the boat, and his disciples woke Him up. So Jesus was like, why are you people acting so paranoid? And his disciples must have thought, is this man serious? Doesn't He see the situation we are in?

In many ways He was a very faulty man, But He had Faith in God byond most people i know..

A sinner with Faith in Jesus will be saved.. It is the Hope of the Gospel for us faulty people..

Two of my favorites are Jacob's first-born son of his wife Rachel, Joseph, and the Samaritan woman at the well to whom Jesus first identified Himself as the long awaited Messiah. She had many sins counted against her, and though Samaritans were despised by the Jews, Jesus spent days walking among them teaching after His encounter with her inspired her to spread the Word of His arrival... while Joseph has no sins of his recorded in Scripture, and is thus a type/foreshadowing of Jesus. The grandson of Isaac and Rebecca, and the great grandson of Abraham, Joseph was a dreamer and an interpreter of dreams, with many brothers who became the patriarchal heads of the 12 tribes of Israel. Joseph's brothers were jealous of him and sold him into slavery to Ishmaelites traveling to Egypt, where after many years in prison on false charges, Joseph arose once again to the second most powerful position in Egypt. His foresight and planning saved his own people (and the Egyptians) from starvation during seven years of famine, though his people were subsequently forced into bondage and suffered hundreds of years of slavery under the Egyptians until Moses was raised up to lead them out of captivity so they could worship the One True God.

Jesus' exhanges with the woman at the well identify Him as the Source of Life.

That was some tough service.

I like David. I think he embodies real men of faith. How he always wanted to follow God but sometimes made mistakes and followed his own ways instead.

He paid for those mistakes. But he always had faith in God in the end.

And what he wrote in some of the psalms I have to say he must have known something about the Salvation that we have in Christ.


I also like the prophet Elijah. But Elijah didn't have courage when I thought he should have and then had TOO much courage when I thought maybe he should tone it down a little. Like when he was making fun of the prophets of baal and then killed them all. That maybe didn't have to go down like that. But then when he ran away from queen jezebel I was a little disappointed in the way that played out. Where was all that courage he displayed earlier?

Its probably pretty easy to be an armchair quarterback like that but you can't help but think "DUDE, what?" in some of those stories. Like when Samson told Delilah the secret of his strength. He knew she was betraying him when he told one of the philistines that they were plowing with his "heifer"... Which WAS kind of a funny way to put it to me...

Was Ruth the really pretty one from a different country that was picking on the outskirts of the rich guys farm?

And then the rich guy makes his workers on purpose drop a bunch of the good stuff so she can have it?

And then the rich guy ends up asking her to marry her?

Can't remember the rich guys name right off the bat, but if that is Ruth I liked her too. I hope I am not confusing her with someone else....

LOL. Speaking of Elijah, I like about him too that he is so real, showing some of that pettiness and human pride that most of us have been hit with at least once. It's second hand embarrassment inducing...
Elijah: "God, I am the only one left! You hear me? I am your most obedient special snowflake prophet!"
God: (ignores Elijah completely and keep giving instructions. Then finally adds casually,) "Oh, and there are 7000 more prophets who are faithful to me, I'm not so desperate, you know, I'm actually just using you because I want to" lol

What I found funny is when he was mocking the prophets of baal and he says "Perhaps your "god" is on a journey or maybe he is sleeping" lol... something close to that.

I love Esther, Ruth, and David. Especially the relationship between David and Jonathan.

The story kinda seemed odd the first few times I read it, because I kept wondering if she really loved that guy because it would be so cool if they fell in love. They didn't have the typical obstacles of a levirate marriage, she had not been around him as her in-law which would have made the dynamics between them awkward potentially (at least for nowadays' standards). But you can tell from the story that he was a really nice person and hey if she's happy then I'm happy... lol

Women in the Bible I relate to are Abigail, Deborah, Ruth, and Mary Magdalene.

Abigail because she saved her household while being married to a foolish husband;

Deborah because of her connection to God and her fearless leadership.

Ruth because of her relentless devotion to Naomi which is a type of the nation of Israel and her hard work ethics; and

Mary Magdalene because of her former life that Yeshua/Jesus delivered her from and the great love shared between her and Yeshua/Jesus- she was the first person He showed himself to after His resurrection.

BOAZ!! That's the rich guys name!!

My friend in Montana named one of his sons Boaz.

And then my daughter showed me a joke about Boaz. Something about watch out for his cousin lazyaz. Probably not appropriate....

I can relate to many of them at times:

I'll be honest tough, and say for the most part, I can relate to people like Jonah, Peter, Sampson, etc. They ran, they denied, they failed, but God still pulled them back up.

Mary. All the Marys.

Hard to choose!

Also not many people mention the animals in the Bible. They are just as important...
A few stand out...the dove who bought back the olive leaf to Noah. Baalams donkey. And of course all the sheep that gave their lives....

My favorite biblical character is the blind guy in John 9.

He displayed remarkable wit and courage in witnessing about Jesus. I laugh everytime I read about him asking the Pharisees whether they want to be Jesus' disciples too, and the anger that it causes. I can just imagine how furious they became at his bold witness.

Additionally, the simple statement that "he worshiped" when confronted with Jesus' lordship causes my eyes to tear up.

I would say that the more recognized character, Paul, would be my second favorite, though. He delves deeper into some fantastic doctrines including union with Christ.

I Like Elijah, because of his braveness in confronting the prophets of Baal, so courageously , then how he got to go to Heaven without dying first!! I would like to ask him what that trip was like?

How do you know that to be true? I thought the author of Hebrews was unknown.
