I am a Roman Catholic and the other day, I was on my way to work and daydreaming about things when I suddenly thought about Christ's resurrection and a thought came into my head saying "This is the work of the Holy Spirit" which was obviously good. However, a few seconds later, I had the thought of "This is the work of the devil". It was one of those thoughts that randomly came into my head and I in no way believe it, but it made me feel uncomfortable. For the rest of the morning, I tried to rationalize why it came into my head but in the end all I ended up doing was reciting in my head 3 or 4 times the phase "This is the work of the devil" in a vain attempt to understand why it had come into my head in the first place. Whilst I in no way believe that it's the work of the devil, I feel worried that it might nonetheless be considered to be blasphemous against the holy spirit and therefore causing me to commit the unpardonable sin. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Any feedback would be appreciated because I am worried. Thanks
Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit
Mar 3:22 And
the scribes which came down from Jerusalem
said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
Mar 3:23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?
Mar 3:24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
Mar 3:25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
Mar 3:26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27 No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.
Mar 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:
Mar 3:29
But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:
Mar 3:30
Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.
The Scribes had an evil heart and were of the devil, and believed what they said because they spoke from their heart.
They called that which was good and holy, the Holy Spirit and the work He was doing, evil.
The devil was doing the afflicting and the Holy Spirit was doing the healing.
That is the unpardonable sin.
Refusing to receive Jesus as their lord and savior is not the unpardonable sin.
How many people rejected Christ the first time they heard about Him and His work on the cross for us and later came to receive Him.
Jesus said, "take no thought
saying..."
The thoughts we hear are not always ours.
The bible says to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
2Co 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds
2Co 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
