Definitions from what I read in the Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:

1.) Write about what the following definitions tell how we are to repent.

REPENT

1. “To feel pain, sorrow, or regret for something done or spoken; as, to repent that we have lost much time in idleness or sensual pleasure; to repent that we have injured or wounded the feelings of a friend. A person repents only of what he or she has done or said.”

2. “To express sorrow for something past.”

3. “To change the mind in consequence of the inconvenience or injury done by past conduct.”

4. Applied to the God, regret, to change the course of providential dealings, have compassion or sympathy, or relent.

5. “In theology, to sorrow or be pained for sin, as a violation of God's Law.” “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”

REPENT'ANCE, n.

1. “Sorrow for any thing done or said; the pain or grief that a person experiences in consequence of the injury or inconvenience produced by his or her own conduct.”

2. “In theology, the pain, regret, or affliction that a person feels because of his or her past conduct, because it exposes him to punishment. This sorrow proceeding merely from the fear of punishment is called legal repentance, as being excited by the terrors of legal penalties, and it may exist without an amendment of life.”

3. “Real penitence; sorrow or deep contrition for sin, as an offense and dishonor to God, a violation of his holy Law, and the basest ingratitude towards a Being of infinite benevolence. This is called evangelical repentance and is accompanied and followed by alteration of life. Repentance is a change of mind or a conversion from sin to God. Repentance is the relinquishment of any practice, from conviction that it has offended God.”

Repentence n. is the true definition of the sorrow of an ungodly person meeting a loving God! When we repent in this manner and confess to Him and others of His forgiveness in our lives,we TURN FROM those sinful ways. We become a new creation in Jesus Christ and look to Him ,the father, the word and the Holy Spirit to guide us into ALL things that are pleasing to Him. John the Baptist preached this type of repentence even before our redeemer purchased our salvation at Calvary. He prepared the way for the FINAL sacrifice for man's sins! Jesus FULFILLED that redemption forgiveness!

To be sorry enough to change. To say you're sorry, yet not be sorry, is not enough to God. Actions reflect.

That's all well and good but I'm not really a novice on spiritual matters and living my life having been around for over 64 years. I believe that it is in my best interest to prioritize my own life and chose the battles that must be fought while keeping my eyes on the prize and continue to fight the good fight. A laundry list of do's and don'ts doesn't cut it for me.

Seeing how I was replying to another member's post, ( a very kind and sweet member at that) I don't see the relevance in your response.

"I'm sorry" is not in the Bible. "Repent" is. So many say that they are sorry and even include "for whatever". Confession and change to righteousness is Biblically required.

You have a pride problem. God hates such. There is good information in those folders for anyone. I am 72-years-old and have kept learning and changing daily. I will obey 2 Timothy 3:5 in relation to you.

BibleLoverBill. If you're not sorry, why would you turn from your sin to strive for righteousness? (Repenting) You said so yourself that's what it means.
