If the Christian god is outside of spacetime where is it exactly.? Early Christians believed that their god lived in side the universe. They believed that their god lived just above the clouds. Of course that's absurd today so Christians today push their god as far away as they can which is right out of the universe, the irony of it all is that the very idea that there's an " outside " of our universe is only in the human psyche bcos of the work of scientists. Actual knowledge is being used by Christians to support their fantastic ideas.

Christians believe that God is both transcendent AND immanent. We also believe that He is omnipresent by which we mean that all of Him always exists everywhere, and at every time, at the same time. Perhaps these two short articles will prove to be helpful, at least as a place to start.

Deism is a religion that believes that God is transcendent only, but Deism is not Christianity.

Oh, and I see that you are brand new around here, so I'd also like to say, welcome to CChat :)

Christians believe the universe was created by God, so people who believe the universe is all there is will never know the Lord.

Maybe the first Believers in God believed that God was just above the clouds but as we read Genesis we see that God created the Universe.. So God was somewhere other then the universe before He created the Universe thus we have believed for a long time.. Even before the times of Jesus ( before Christianity ) that God existed independently of the Universe.. Actually we believe the Universe is dependent on God..

So we have not pushed our God away.. Because God time and God space is totally different from our Universe time and universe space.. So the whole concept of God having a location in relation to us is a waste of time..

Of course scientists came up with the concept of multi dimensions but that concept is multi dimensions within the created universe.. Science deals with the observable measurable universe.. It cannot be used as a tool to either observe or measure God since God is not part of this universe..

I don't think that the Hebrew prophets and the first christian fathers were incapable to figure out something different from the visible sky and clouds.

That sky and the sky above are mental or revealed constructs.

Just curious, are you a Christian? It seems your word choice in phrasing the question is curious. You start with “if” and call God an “it.”

I think that the answers you receive will be better positioned if it is known whether you are “inside looking out”, or “outside looking in.”

God is an omnipresent Spirit, and all physical matter resides in Him, but not part of Him, for the Spirit and physical matter are separate.

The heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain God, and we are in Him, and have our movement, and being because of Him, and there is one God, the Father, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

It is hard to believe that God can be so big as to be omnipresent, but it is true.

When we look up at the sky as far as our eye can see we say, oh look space, but oh look God.

For there is no such thing as space for God fills all space, so there is no place empty, and some places physical matter.

And I know a lot of people might not accept this but there is no such thing as time as a substance, or universal principle.

It does not matter how fast you go it does not affect time, but means you are only traveling slower or faster but time goes on the same for both.

Time only relates to the beginning of creation to the end of creation to mark events that happen according to God, and so people can have a time schedule on earth.

Time is only a measuring tool to measure, and the sun is the measuring tool, for the sun going down, and coming up, and going down, marks a day, and then we break down the day to seconds, minutes, and hours, and build up the days to weeks, months, and years.

Before creation there is no time, for there is no sun to measure time, and after this heaven and earth pass away, and there is a new heaven and earth there is no time, for there is no sun, but the Lamb is the light that lights the New Jerusalem.

The sun is the measuring tool for time according to this heaven and earth.

Time does not exist in substance, and is not a universal principle.

Before creation, and after this creation pass away, the only time you will get is if you count one Mississippi, two Mississippi.

That is because before creation there is nothing scheduled for there to be time, and when this heaven and earth pass away there is nothing scheduled, but all things go on the same.

God is an omnipresent Spirit, and there is no such thing as space for God fills all space, and time is not a universal principle, and the sun is the measuring tool for time, which shall pass away one day, so God does not live outside of time for there is no time, but it is made up for the purpose of creation of this heaven and earth, and then be no more for the measuring tool is gone the sun.

Rev 10:5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
Rev 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer.

I know some people will have a hard time with the time one not existing but only for the creation.

Once creation of this heaven and earth pass away, there is no sun to measure time, and no events scheduled to keep, but all things go on the same.

If people say that the universe has an end, then what is on the other side, for it is complexing either way, whether it keeps going, or has an end, and it makes more sense that the universe keeps going than it ends, and nothing on the other side.

And if people cannot believe that God has no beginning, then that means that Gods are coming after Gods, and then there is no beginning to that, for it will keep on going back to Gods coming after Gods to infinity, which that will boggle your mind.

It makes more sense that God has no beginning than for Gods to keep coming after Gods that will back up to infinity, for then there can never be a start there, and God is a Spirit which cannot wear down, cannot erode, and cannot disintegrate, which makes more sense that God has no beginning.

But that one boggled my mind ever since I was a child that how can God have no beginning, and always exist, and sometimes I think do I even exist, for it seems so strange that anything can exist at all for how did it get there, and how can it always be there, and how can God always exist and be there.

Mind boggling, and people want to have doubts of this and that, when we are alive and exist, but something has to always exist, for anything to exist, and come from it if it did, so atheists will have to admit that physical matter always exists, but it makes more sense that God always exists that took that physical matter, and formed what He wanted with it.

Hello and welcome to CC...
The Bible states that God created the heavens and the earth. If you're part of the thing being created, you can't be its creator, so in that sense, God is outside of space and time.

Who are these early Christians of whom you speak? Some evidence to support your assertion would be appropriate here. They probably did not have a 21st-century concept of space, so comparing their terminology to modern science-based understanding is unreasonable.

Your closing sentence suggests that you think that Christians hold to "fantastic" ideas; as in "ridiculous". Is that what you think? Just because some of the ideas held by Christians are beyond the realm of scientific investigation doesn't mean they are "fantastic".

did they?

behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain Thee!

You got any info on the claims about believing God lived inside the universe or above the clouds, even if they did, that’s how far the could see, so they probably didn’t speculate any farther than the sky or even knew of the big universe.

the irony of it all is that the very idea that there's an " outside " of our universe is only in the human psyche bcos of the work of scientists.
is that right?

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to Thee. Holy Father, keep through Thine own name those whom Thou hast given Me, that they may be one, as We
(John 17:11)

the fundamental belief that the whole world, the universe - both the heavens and the earth - is a created thing, created by a God who eternally exists both before and after it, necessarily and singularly implies that God exists where and when the universe does not. and we go to Him; He prepares a place, and comes again to take us to be with Him: the idea that there is something more than the entire created cosmos is not a 'new idea' put into our heads by 'scientists' -- it is page 1 verse 1 of your Bible. atheistic physical science is catching up to the fact, because the creation itself testifies of its Creator.

God is everywhere. I don't know many Christians that push God as far away as they can. For those that are born again the Holy Spirit lives inside their heart and that is about as close as you can get. Expect a lot of push back from your anti-God stance as this is a Christian site. Regardless, glad to have you join us. Welcome to CC.

God is spirit and His Spirit transcends all creation. God is that He is, there's not a locality that he's isolated or restricted to.

We don't know 'where' his heavenly kingdom is, but it can be in a parallel dimension or plane not visible to this material/physical world? "For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst." (Luke 17:21)

People have always looked up, but its not because its believed God is just above the clouds, but because we know the New Jerusalem (heaven) will descend from above; "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God." (Revelation 21:1-3)
