And to become sons and daughters of our Father in heaven [Romans 8] requires a set of responses and actions to be undertaken
by a 'believer' so that they may be converted. - Thus Romans 6 on water baptism precedes Romans 8 on the Holy Spirit.
Belief and faith must be put into action > submission and obedience.
It always starts with Acts 2:38 and never changes.
The Bible disagrees with you. To become a child of God starts with receiving Jesus, the name above all name given among men whereby we must be saved , it's actually believing in Him alone saves. No cup of water...I think, you should first repent (change mind) about Christ, because Christ of the bible is able to save, can save, He's a Saviour indeed! Get out of those who say something Christ can't, not sufficient, not enough...

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
2 Cor. 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;

It truly saddens me to see how many people are so easily duped by false religions and cults. :(

Prior to my conversion while still attending the Roman Catholic church several years, I was duped into believing that we must be water baptized to be saved (which was the only thing I was capable of understanding at that time) but after my conversion, having lost the blinders, I now see the truth clearly. Praise God! :)

If water baptism was absolutely required for salvation, then there would not be so many passages of Scripture in which God promises eternal life to those who simply BELIEVE.. (Luke 8:12; John 1:12; 3:16,18,36; 20:31; Acts 10:43; 11:17; 13:39; 16:31; Romans 1:16; 4:5-6; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 1:21 etc..).

There are a multitude of verses in Scripture that make it clear man is saved through belief/faith "apart from additions or modifications" (Luke 8:12; John 1:12; 3:15,16,18,36; 5:24; 6:29,40,47; 11:25,26; Acts 10:43; 11:17; 13:39; 15:7-9; 16:31; 26:18; Romans 1:16; 3:22-28; 4:5-6; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 1:21; Galatians 2:16; 3:6-7, 24-26; Ephesians 1:13; 2:8; Philippians 3:9; 2 Timothy 3:15; Hebrews 10:39; 1 John 5:4; 13 etc..). *Not one of these verses "adds" water baptism to the equation.

Baptism is the expected initial outward response to the gospel, but it is not a part of the gospel itself (1 Corinthians 1:17; 15:1-4). There are a handful of alleged proof texts which are often cited by works-salvationists to prove that the Bible makes water baptism mandatory for salvation. A careful examination of each of these texts in context will show that none of them prove that baptism is absolutely required for salvation, though they do prove that baptism was an assumed initiatory response to the gospel of salvation. In other words, these texts only prove that baptism is regularly associated with conversion and salvation, rather than absolutely required for salvation.
Yap sir Dan, you're not a bad guy, you're just misunderstood but I would add that the bible is just as misunderstood in this thread by some. Multitudes of scriptures speaks of Christ and Christ alone for salvation.

Pentecostal Christians were doing this in the beginning and we are still doing this today - praise God !!

And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting,
“These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also, …
Acts 17:6
You just put another passage of the bible out of context to your Pentecostal claim. Not even signs of speaking of tongue was ever mentioned on the passage. It's about the scripture, Christ and his works of his death, burial and resurrection. Noted also is the none water regeneration being spoken of.

Acts 17
1Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: 2And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, 3Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. 4And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
Jason Seized
5But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; 7Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. 8And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. 9And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

Jesus never taught speaking in tongues
Surely Jesus knew what would happen when the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the people. Jesus told the disciples not to venture forth in ministry until they were endued with power:

"And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." Acts 1:4-5

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." Acts 1:8

No cup of water...I think, you should first repent (change mind) about Christ, because Christ of the bible is able to save, can save, He's a Saviour indeed! John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
2 Cor. 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Jesus Himself states that everyone is to be water baptized. And the word shows clearly that it is to be done in Jesus' name. We are continually told that once we believe in Jesus there is life available through His name.

The scriptures you provided and what they speak of:
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
When do we take on His name?

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Again when is the only name under heaven given to men?

2 Cor. 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
God provided the pattern the we follow.

Please share scripture indicating when one receives the name of Jesus anytime other than in water baptism.

There is no way of knowing one way or the other whether the 3000 spoke in tongues because the record is silent in that regard.
Why would the 3,000 need to speak in tongues? I see that you side stepped and did not answer my questions. Who is them in Acts 2:1-4 and what was the purpose of them speaking in tongues? What did it confirm to the audience? What was the purpose of speaking in tongues in Acts 10? What did it confirm to the audience?

Many scriptures are specific to certain points such as, belief and water baptism, yet silent regarding repentance, etc. This is evidenced in the record of the eunuch. That story only includes the fact that the eunuch believed the information Philip shared and was water baptized.
The Bible sometimes only mentions repentance as a condition for salvation. One example of this would be Luke 13:3, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." See also Luke 24:47; Acts 3:19 etc.. A few times both repentance and believe/faith are mentioned in the same verse (Matthew 21:32; Mark 1:15; Acts 20:21). There are many, many verses which only mention belief/faith as the condition for salvation (John 1:12; 3:15,16,18; 6:40,47; 11:25,26; Acts 10:43; 13:39; 16:31; 26:18; Romans 1:16; 3:22-28; 4:5; 10:4; Ephesians 2:8; 2 Philippians 3:9; Timothy 3:15; 1 John 5:13 etc..).

When only repentance is mentioned in connection with salvation, belief/faith is implied or assumed. When only belief/faith is mentioned in connection with salvation, repentance is implied or assumed. Where you have one you must have the other. If we believe the gospel, then we already repented in the process of changing our mind and choosing to believe the gospel/place faith in Christ for salvation. Not so with baptism. *You can repent and believe the gospel but NOT YET BE WATER BAPTIZED (Acts 10:43-47; 11:17,18).

Notice in Acts 11:17, "If therefore God gave them the same gift (Holy Spirit) as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?" This is referred to as repentance unto life (Acts 11:18) and repentance/faith was established BEFORE water baptism (Acts 10:43-47). So the eunuch could not believe the information Philip shared with him about Jesus unless he first repented in the process of changing his mind and choosing to believe in Jesus (Acts 8:37). Also see John 20:31 - By believing (not by water baptism) we may have life in His name. Believing is not baptism and believing precedes baptism and we are saved the moment that we believe. It's just that simple. Water baptism "followed" repentance/believing/conversion for the eunuch and for these Gentiles in Acts 10:43-47.

Also, the account in Acts concerning the Samaritans does not state specifically that they spoke in tongues.
Thank you! ;) Not all converts speak in tongues.

However, it does say that Simon SAW that by the laying on of hands that the Holy Ghost was received. This indicates that something did indeed occur in connection with the infilling. If a scripture is silent, or implies but neglects to provide concrete proof it cannot be used in drawing a conclusion. Only by evaluating scripture and finding consistency can this be done.
Neither your evaluation of scripture or your arguments from silence help your case. So what was the purpose of Peter and John laying hands on these Samaritans to receive the Holy Spirit in Acts 8:17? How did the Jews in general feel about the Samaritans? In regards to Simon, in Acts 8:20, we read that Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.

We are told that a concept is established by 2-3 witnesses in the word itself. What I see in scripture is that God chose to leave a record indicating that everyone is given the opportunity to be saved, and provides a consistent pattern that must be followed. This truth is seen in 3 witnesses without the need to include the Samaritan experience. (Acts 2:1-4, 10:44-48, 19:1-6) All of mankind are descendants of the parties to whom the commands were given, no one is excluded.
The consistent pattern in scripture is that man is saved through belief/faith (repentance already implied or assumed) "apart from additions or modification" -- water baptism, speaking in tongues etc.. (John 3:15,16,18; Acts 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 15:7-9; 16:31; 26:18; Romans 1:16; 3:22-28; 4:5-6; 10:4; 1 Corinthians 1:21; Galatians 2:16; Ephesians 2:8,9; Philippians 3:9; 2 Timothy 3:15; 1 John 5:13 etc..).

Since you disagree, what scriptures contain something other than speaking in tongues as evidence that an individual has received the Holy Ghost?
Speaking in tongues may be "an" evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit (as we saw in Acts 2 and Acts 10) but it's not "the" evidence for all. Not everyone speaks in tongues. Period. (1 Corinthians 12:27-31)

The scriptures you referenced, with the exception of Acts 16:31-33 (ref to belief and water baptism), line up with the command given by Peter on the Day of Pentecost; repent, be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sin and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The scriptures I referenced (including Acts 16:31-33) are all in harmony with your (pet verse Acts 2:38) that you continue to misinterpret. In Acts 2:38, "for the remission of sins" does not refer back to both clauses, "you all repent" and "each one of you be baptized," but refers only to the first. Peter is saying "repent unto the remission of your sins," the same as in Acts 3:19. The clause "each one of you be baptized" is parenthetical. This is exactly what Acts 3:19 teaches except that Peter omits the parenthesis.

*Also compare the fact that these Gentiles in Acts 10:45 received the gift of the Holy Spirit (compare with Acts 2:38 - the gift of the Holy Spirit) and this was BEFORE water baptism (Acts 10:47).

In Acts 10:43 we read ..whoever believes in Him receives remission of sins. Again, these Gentiles received the gift of the Holy Spirit - Acts 10:45 - when they believed on the Lord Jesus Christ - Acts 11:17 - (compare with Acts 16:31 - Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved) BEFORE water baptism - Acts 10:47. This is referred to as repentance unto life - Acts 11:18.

*So the only logical conclusion when properly harmonizing scripture with scripture is that faith in Jesus Christ "implied in genuine repentance" (rather than water baptism) brings the remission of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 5:31; 10:43-47; 11:17,18; 15:8,9; 16:31; 26:18). *Perfect Harmony* :)

Acts 3:19
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
No mention of baptism and faith is implied or assumed because believing in Christ/faith in Christ for salvation is the new direction of this change of mind in repentance. Two sides to the same coin.

Acts 5:31-32
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that OBEY him.
Notice "repentance" (and not water baptism) is in connection with forgiveness of sins and (faith is implied or assumed). Choosing to REPENT and BELIEVE THE GOSPEL is the ACT OF OBEDIENCE that causes us to receive the Holy Spirit. In Romans 10:16, we read - But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” In Ephesians 1:13, we read - In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise. *What happened to baptism? *Hermeneutics. Repentance is already implied or assumed.

Acts 10:43-44
43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. (water baptism) 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Water baptism is not mentioned in Acts 10:43-44 and it's not actually mentioned until verse 47, "AFTER" these Gentiles had already BELIEVED, RECEIVED THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WERE SAVED.

Acts 11:17-18
17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

(MY COMMENT - He did not withstand God. He water baptized them-Acts 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?)

18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
You need to bold who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ which was established BEFORE water baptism. He water baptized them "AFTER" they BELIEVED, RECEIVED THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WERE SAVED.

Acts 15:7-11 (No OT Circumcision Necessary)
7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
Hear the word of the gospel and BELIEVE. They received the gift of the Holy Spirit WHEN THEY BELIEVED before water baptism. Hearts were purified by faith, not by water baptism. Through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, as Paul stated in Ephesians 2:8,9 that we are saved by grace through faith, not works. In Romans 5:1-2, we read that we have been justified by faith and we have access by faith into grace, not by water baptism.

Acts 16:31-33 (Only belief and water baptism reference)
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. (At midnight-not much of a public display)
They said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, not believe and get baptized and you will be saved. The public display here does not matter and no mention of speaking in tongues. What matters is they were saved WHEN THEY BELIEVED (Acts 10:43-47; 11:17; 16:31- perfect harmony) before water baptism.

Acts 26:18-20
18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they MAY receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
Notice that forgiveness of sins here is connected with those who are sanctified by faith in Me and not water baptism. Those who repent turn to God and place their faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. Acts 20:21 - testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

"Do works meet for repentance" does not mean we are saved by works. Those who repent "change their mind" and place their faith (belief, trust, reliance) in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. The Bible also tells us that true repentance will result in a change of actions. Acts 26:20 declares, "I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds." This is the fruit of repentance (Matthew 3:8), not the essence of repentance (change of mind).

Actually you do, we all speak in a language (tongue), and those that speak in more than on one language (tongue) speak in tongues (languages). :)

Agree, this is the Jesus+ doctrine, because speaking with God in a language is not sufficient, incomprehensible speech works better :(

An abridged truncated gospel essentially anti-Christ
Also a complete denial of Romans 6 and 8

A believer becomes a son or daughter of our Father only through the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the Bible evidence of speaking in a new tongue as Jesus himself declared would be the sign given.
9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom
he has given us.

Jesus never taught speaking in tongues
Actually he did preach that believers would speak in tongues …

The Spirit breatheth where he will and thou hearest his voice: but thou knowest not whence he cometh and whither he goeth.
So is every one that is born of the Spirit.
John 3:8
And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues.

John 3:8

passage says nothing about speaking in tongues.
"in the spirit" / "of the spirit" does not mean babel language. how you guys believe that is beyond me.

And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name they shall cast out devils. They shall speak with new tongues.
Mark 16:17

im sure many spoke new languages, however none of you tongue people can do that, that truly would be a miracle. making random chatter / babel sounds is not a miracle. thats something anyone can do. if you have no substance to go with your chatter noises, such as command a tree to fall over, than its nothing more than that, chatter sounds.
think for a second, if there really were a gift of babel language, and it had no function other than to tell others you can speak it, what exactly is the point of it?

when Jesus says "tongues" all that means is language. now if you have another scripture where Jesus says tongues means angel language, babel language, prayer language then you would have a real argument, but unfortunately there is no such scripture.

matter of fact, outside of Paul there is no mention of this angel language anywhere in scripture. we have many examples of angels but every example has them speaking in our common language. which is one more debunking fact.

2 Cor. 3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
God provided the pattern the we follow.

Please share scripture indicating when one receives the name of Jesus anytime other than in water baptism.

We take on his name when we beleive. Its his power that we belive by . Without it invisibly working in us we can do nothing.

Water baptism like the tongue doctrine are found in the old testament

Spiritual gifts are gifts not seen . Literal gifts are seen .Those who love a sign and wonders gospel have received their reward.

The foundation for the doctrine of tongues is found in Isaiah 28.Yet for all that those who love to self edify themselves. (sign seeker) They reuse to look to the foundations. It can give away their secret.

They have no idea what tongues are and what the sign confirms?

And yes Waggles those metaphors as signs do follow . They will speak a new tongue the gospel of Christ. The gospel, the new tongue has the power to cast out demons.

Making sounds without meaning and falling back slain in the spirit make a good side show. Plenty of action .

Is it whosoever keeps the commandment or whosoever keeps the self edifying signs and wonders gospel .

For we did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Why must as the grand finally men fall back in fear slain in the Spirit?

Does not the Spirit heal? What's is slain in the spirit? Is that an old testament passage . What does the bible teach about those who fall backward slain in the spirit? Are they the same and yest for all that they love the oral traditions of men . Come on Waggles jump into the study will you even look to why God mocks those fall backward ?

For with stammering (mocking) lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. Wherefore hear the word of the Lord, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.Isiah 28:11-14

Mark 16:17
John 3, 8 has nothing to do with speaking in tongues.

Father!”
Romans 8:

Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom
he has given us.
1John 3:24
In romans and 1. John speaking in tongues is not mentioned.
