Since this is the family forum...

The other day my son said something that surprised me and also made me proud.

We were on our way home from picking up my daughter. The wind had picked up and there was a storm coming. As we headed home we could see the clouds getting very dark and we were watching the lightning. It is awesome to watch. We were going to my sister's house to pick up my 11 year old son and came across a pole and wires down across the road. We turned around and met a fire truck coming to the scene. We went another way and I quickly realized that a tornado had been through here just minutes before.

We saw a path of trees snapped off, pieces of roofing laying along the road. There was debris in the fields and tree branches all over the place.
As we were taking it in my 5 year old son says "Dad, should we pray about this?"

I wasn't even thinking about that! But we prayed.

That was a proud moment for me. Praise God! I pray he continues to think and live like that through his life.

Who else has these things?

I'm not there yet...maybe another 5 or 10 years...but that will be pleasing for sure. I am looking forward to the day I'm a grandpa. Never thought I'd say that. Good job CR!👍

And to continue bragging 😁...I'll jump to my oldest. She came to me several months ago and really opened up to me about things in her life. I was glad she trusted me enough to tell me those things. She also is one to question things about God and the Bible, and it scares me much, but I'm glad she voices this at home looking for answers.

Anyway...

I bet you will, but that is wayyyyy down the road. So exciting that she is asking questions. What are you scared of?

The questions. Questions about the existence of God. How do you know the Bible is true?

Things like that. I do the best I can. But I know I need to trust God in all this. It scares me too because I have a brother that claims to be an atheist (I don't think they really exist) and when we were young we thought he would be a pastor someday...maybe he still will...🤔

Does that make better sense?

Bringing a tear to my eyes (with a big smile) This is precious! Daughters need their daddies!

*note* your above reply to CharleeRenee came as I was typing this:
She is very blessed to have a dad that will listen and answer her questions.
I was going to say something else but I forgot what as James 1:5 just came to mind:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
and Proverbs 3:5&6
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Oh I guess those came to mind because what I was going to say was to seek the Lord for any answers to questions she may ask that you are unsure about. Trust Him to guide you, He will;)

Yes, it makes sense... I love what our sister said. I piggy back what she said. I believe your concern is healthy...it will get you praying and being on top of the questions dad. I trust the Lord will guide you. I am encouraged that you are concerned, because it shows how invested in her and her faith you are. I would ask your brother not to add to her confusion and respect your role as her dad. It is a shame though, that has to be frustrating. I will pray for your daughter, you and your brother.

My kids use to race and beat up each other to be first to a door. Whatever this drive is to be first all the time that they have has driven me bonkers. When they were real little it was because they wanted to be the one to push the button to make the doors open.......... Well I've been working on my boys becoming polite young men and for my daughter to expect to be treated like a lady. Now they don't (as much) race and since many places have 2 sets of doors, my boys have gotten to the point one will get the outer set of doors while the other steps in and gets the inner, then holds them open for everyone:cool:
One day we were out with dad and our daughter wasn't running for the door. He asked why & she looks at him and said "I have brothers........ they BETTER get the door for ME"
And they did, and he was floored.

OHH! My Mama heart is swollen right now!:D:D:D It's been POURING like crazy today. Just got home from getting everyone from early release day @ school and as we pull up to our street the rain lets up. The conversation went something like this (I'll refer to my kids as 1 2 and 3)
1: OH! THE RAIN HAS STOPPED! NOW MAYBE WELL SEE A RAINBOW!!! I LOVE RAINBOWS! THEY'RE SPECIAL!
Me: Oh yeah, they are pretty........
2: Yes! They are Gods promise!
Me: What are they a promise of?
All 3 @ same time (hard to keep up with who said what when);
"Never to flood the whole earth again!"
"A covenant!"
"Yeah a covenant! It means a STRONG STRONG promise that cannot be broken"
"Yeah God promised never to make the whole earth be underwater all at once again"
And then they were out of the car racing to the door fighting again:)()

And to think they're not listening.....

That's awesome! Again you and dad are doing a great job.

These are the things that make want to brag about them. It's encouraging to hear them talk about these things. Sometimes they are better example than their dad. (Talking about my kids).

A few months ago we went for a hike. And we went up to these rocks that stick up out of the mountain.
It was beautiful, and scary since kids can sometimes lack a sense of caution.

My seven year old says "Dad, it's so beautiful. We should thank God about this." And he stopped sat on a rock and prayed. My 5 year old followed his lead and did the same.

It surprised me,in a good way, because I don't think I've ever done that on a hike. That stuck with me.

I love reading about all your proud moments with your kiddos!

I do not have my own kiddos, but I do have a 3 year old nephew, whom I absolutely adore. I took him to dinner the other night with a friend of mine that is having a difficult time. She looks exhausted and sad. When we entered the restaurant and saw my friend (he's never met her), my little guy went right up to her and gave her a hug and said, "I love you". It was the sweetest thing to see and I truly believe the Lord used him to touch her. Her smile didn't disappear for the rest of the night and she had a lightness about her. My heart!!

One other moment that brought tears to my eyes, was seeing him raise his hands in worship. I'm loving watching the little man he's becoming. I pray the Lord continues to work this way in His life.

Anyway...
One day, my older son also talked with me as i was working at the balcony. He told me about a classmate since high school, who was the apple of his eye. She is not a believer however. I was both surprised and humbled that he also opened up abt that to me, but could not to his father. Of course i had to explain abt not getting equally yoked, wc he knew anyway, at the same time encouraging him to pray some more. It is not too late to wait (he sometimes thinks he's old at early 20's). If the Lord is truly saving her, then it is worth hoping and getting there, than insisting on proposing and all, regretting the consequences later. He was agreeable, altho i can imagine how hard it must have been in his heart.

Then theres this younger child who goes abt as if not listening to what mama is saying at times. Our default radio is a Christian station. One day when she was in grade school, i heard her quoting from a radio broadcaster: "Life is not a series of chances, but a series of choices." She was listening to the radio after all=).

Another proud moment. My oldest son (14) came to me near the beginning of the year and wanted to talk to me. I could tell that he was apprehensive about it but I kind of suspected what it was about.

I try to talk to my kids about the dangers of alcohol, drugs, porn, etc. Well my son was wanting to tell me about the thoughts he had been having and knew they were wrong but was embarrassed and ashamed about it. I reassured him that I don't think he would surprise me, as I have been there myself. It was encouraging that he was willing to talk to his dad about his struggle. I know that when I was at that age there was no way I was going to talk to my dad about my wrong thoughts or ask questions about sexuality.

Even more, he has come back several more times to confess his struggle and look for help.

I can't describe what it is like. There are a lot of different thoughts and emotions all at the same time.

On another note, thanks for all the replies on here. It is interesting to hear others experiences.

This is awesome! How blessed he is to have a father he feels he can come to with those difficult growing up issues who will help him and guide him in the right direction!
Keep up the great work dad!

Well this one I had forgotten about until today during kindergarten graduation when I saw my little guy on stage hugging a friend. So this friend is a child in foster care. A few months ago at bed time he informed me that he had told her he would pray for her to have good sleep with no nightmares. But he was in tears at bed time. I asked him what was wrong and he informed me of the situation and said he was upset because he didn't know how to do so for a friend. So I gave him some examples and he took it from there. A couple days later he informed me that he had asked her how she was sleeping and she told him she wasn't having anymore nightmares!

These things do make us proud!
It is such an encouragement to here these things from others. It is also an important lesson for me to realize that we need to continue to go to God with our struggles and others struggles also. God does answer prayers.
Thanks so much for sharing!
