I have read the Bible many times, and I guess there are many thing's that a person can do that will send them to hell. Some of those thing's are very clear, and other things can be debated.

This I think can not be debated.

1 John 4:20 20Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

Any Christian who'd ignore practicing love in the way this verse points out, couldn't be going to heaven. But Christian's persist in believing that they're going to heaven regardless of what they do, because they believe that doing (Working) doesn't get them into heaven anyway.

So they nullify 1 John 4:20 & other vere's like that, when they tell you that love is an action but your actions can't save you.

Hi Riven, first off, I see that you are brand new around here so, welcome to CChat :)

There are many Christians who have never read through the entire Bible (particularly those who are younger in the faith), so I'm interested, what was your motivation as a non-Christian to read through it not just once, but several times? (if you don't mind me asking, that is?) BTW, the fact that you've done so even once is impressive (y)(y) (I never did before I became a Christian).

As for 1 John 4:20, before I reply, I'd like to ask you a question. How can you tell if someone who says that they're a Christian is actually who they claim to be (and not a poser or CINO [Christian In Name Only]). After all, the Bible makes it clear that there are many among us, both in the world ~and~ in the church, who are CINO .. e.g. Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43, 24:24-25; 1 John 2:19. (even though some of these may 'truly' believe themselves to be Christians throughout their lives )

Thanks!

~Deut

Matthew 7
22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I NEVER knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’

Please excuse me, but I do not see how the act of love is spelled out in this verse. What is it? How is it described? I just don't see it here the way you claim it to be. Can you underline it for me? One thing I know for a fact is that telling the truth to people who do not want to hear it is often considered hateful by the person who does not want to hear it. The Truth was standing right in front of Pilate when he asked Jesus, "What is truth?"

The Bible says many things. One of them is that without faith, it is impossible to please God.

Sadly, that's true of many who I've known, but the question remains, how can you tell the difference between someone who simply thinks they are a Christian, and someone who has actually been changed and made into one, into a wholly new creation by God .. e.g. Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 3:3; 2 Corinthians 5:17, 21; Ephesians 2:1-5, 10?

Thanks!

p.s. - I know a little bit about this personally because I was baptized as an infant and raised in the church (you know, went to Sunday School, was confirmed, attended regularly through college, sang in both the children's and the adult choirs, went on retreats, you know, the whole 9 yards ). I loved it, actually :) As a result, I always claimed and believed myself a Christian (why wouldn't I have) until the day that I actually became one that is, two months after my 30th birthday. That's when everything in my life changed.

To this day Magenta, I have no idea what the Christian truth is. It's Jesus they say, yeah, well what is that? They say it's love, again, what is that? I don't think I'm ever going to know, when truth has no objective premise.

The absolute truth is that God exists, and He has a plan for your life, which includes giving you more life. Do you value life? Do you value love? Do you value truth? Do you seek truth and love in your life? God knows that those who do not know Him are not seeking Him, yet people do seek truth, and Truth is embodied in the Person of Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God Who took on flesh to walk this world. To know God is to love Him. We love Him because He first loved us. Have you experienced His love for you? I pray that you do!

Magenta,
our Lord brings each of His sheep to Himself in many different ways,
and they eventually become 'one-flock'...

Thank You so much for such a wonderful share.:):)
