Now let's read what John the Baptist says about Baptism:
Matthew 3:
4 Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him 6 and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as
our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10 And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fan
is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
So JESUS is going to Baptize SOME with the Holy Spirit, but OTHERS, like THE BROOD OF VIPERS, He is going to Baptize with FIRE. Right after John says that, he talks about the chaff burning in unquenchable fire. If some are submerged in water and with the Holy Spirit, doesn't it make sense that John is saying some are going to be baptized, or submerged, in the lake of fire? Especially when you consider who John is addressing? READ IT AGAIN!
So I can see a response like "What about what happened at Pentecost?" Well, let's read it:
Acts 2 New King James Version (NKJV)
Coming of the Holy Spirit
2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire,
and one sat upon each of them 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
It says the Holy Spirit filled them. The FIRE sat upon, NOT IN THEM.
I am still not totally sure, but by examining Scripture closely, it appears you DON'T want to be baptized with fire!
