I originally posted this in the News Forum but it didn't get many views there. I believe it's a very important and helpful article and wanted to share it with those of you (including me) who have been discouraged by all the negative news our minds are assaulted with every day. Although it may be a secular article, it coincides with what the Word of God says about thinking on good things.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; it is My peace I give unto you; not as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 16:33 "These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Philippians 4:6-8Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

Godly principles in the wrong hands can be very alluring, but quite deceptive -
it really is 'the tree of good and evil' scenario -

one can listen to it if they choose, but one should never give-in to the pull and power,
for the object in the over-all picture is to 'draw one away from God through
pleasantness to the eyes and ears...

The key is to put on the mind of Christ. ;)

Titus 1:15 - "To the pure, all things are pure."

Philippians 4:8 is one of my favorite verses!

I also like "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2

I was talking to some friends earlier about our diets and fitness journeys. Sometimes diets make us want to pull our hairs out! But I realized with the help of my mother and some pushing of the Holy Spirit that what I am doing is really good (self-control is a fruit) and instead of being upset about having to leave certain foods, I should be happy I am able to do it. Many change their ways and still cannot lose weight. Or others cannot walk or do any form of exercise. I walk everyday before or after work and that's a blessing. So positive thinking helped me get motivated to continue in my fitness journey. I needed to "renew my mind."

Oh...I also remember in high school the vice principal would talk on the intercom, giving off the announcements each day. At the end of announcements he would say "Have a good day or not...the choice is yours!" Most kids would roll their eyes at this. But now that I'm an adult, I realize that his words were very true. It's all about the way we think. Even as we are going through something difficult, we can rise above our circumstances if we see trials through God's perspective. And that kind of thinking brings contentment through any situation that might occur.
Good thread, Auntie! :giggle:

I used to listen to talk radio. I had to stop. After not listening to them I was a lot less depressed and less angry.
