Can Believers use gun for the protection ?.

My View on Arms and Self Defense:

A. We have liberty, Biblically, to defend ourselves.
B. Why would I want to alter my POLITICAL LIBERTIES in a way that I lose my BIBLICAL LIBERTIES?
C. Would it not be best if our political liberties were instead a REFLECTION of our Biblical liberties?

Would it not be preferred, and even wise, if we were to freely choose political liberties which reflect our Biblical liberties?

I realize we don't always get what we want.
We may, eventually, have certain political liberties removed without our choosing.
But as long as we have the peaceful and legal means to choose our liberties... why would we just willingly choose to give up Biblical, rational, time-honored liberties?

Just for the record, I don't own a gun.

I don't even want a gun.

But liberty is a matter or principle... freedoms are still valuable when you aren't using them.

Many haven't read the Eleventh Commandment- "Thou shalt not shoot bear s false w arms."
(Sounds like I haven't either)

I got a long slide 10mm Glock for grizzly protection last year for elk hunting.

Its the same basic idea for home/family/loved ones protection.


If there is someone/something intent on your death or the death of your loved ones there is only one solution for your safety.

It is not philosophy. It is not talking things out.

It is knowing in advance that sometimes your enemy can't be reasoned with. At least, not with words.


I hope none of us ever comes face to face with this situation. But I think we would be shirking our responsibility if we weren't at least ready for it.

I think there are still a lot of us out there that have this common sense.

I just watched David and Goliath on Netflix last night.

I found myself getting a little irritated that the movie took some liberties with what was written in the bible.

I don't remember David having a sword fight for 10 minutes with Goliath before he finally used his sling.

I have no opinion one way or the other. I never carried a gun even when I was a criminal. I know God has taken care of my enemies that came against me from the very beginning.

I used to live in a commune just outside Davenport called Tolstoy Farms back in de day. lol

I hope not I live in the woods and packs of wild dogs 20-30 in groups charge me several times a year when I go to the mail box or on my mower mowing the ditches so I carry an old Colt.

Distinctions:


In fairness, I did not listen to the video posted by the OP, so I have no idea what he said, and I'm not in a position to agree or disagree.

But we might do well to draw some distinctions regarding this whole topic.


1. We might want to draw a distinction between spiritual warfare with spiritual entities, and ordinary self defense with ordinary humans.

Of course there is overlap between the two, but let's consider some thought experiments.


When you drive through a bad neighborhood, do you lock your door?
This is a type of physical self defense... this is not a spiritual defense using spiritual measures.

So let's not get too self-righteous about all of this.

We all take physical measures for physical safety, on a daily basis.
We don't pray OR lock our door; we pray AND lock our door... we act with prudence in a physical world.


2. We might also want to draw some distinctions between what we do, and do not, consider "reasonable" self defense.

I don't think it's a good idea to walk around with a loaded AK so you can just shoot anyone who offends your sensibilities.
But maybe in extreme situations, like someone breaking into your home and attempting to rape your wife... we might all agree there are times to take SOME KIND of forceful action.... whatever that may be.

So I don't think we want to take the position that no physical defense of any kind is ever reasonable or prudent.

I think we'd just want to say it is contingent on a great deal of prudence: what is absolutely necessary, what is most reasonable and prudent, and what also coincides with the Lords specific leading within our own conscience.

If your wife is being raped in front of you, and you say, "I think I'll kneel down and pray a bit, and just use my spiritual weapons, because goodness, I don't want to hurt that poor bloke" ... well, I don't think either God or your wife are going to feel very honored.

I think that, as much as humanly possible, we should be "harmless as doves" - I think this is crucial to Christian living, but even so, there still remains a "time for every purpose."
Even Christ himself, the lamb of God, will become a lion at the appointed time.


3. I am NOT advocating for violence, or lack of compassion, or inattention to our primary focus on spiritual things... I am only advocating for balanced and thoughtful discussion.

These are emotional issues, for all of us.

Whenever issues are emotional, we need to step back, think about them, and give them more careful consideration.
