I don't go to church much so pardon me if I sound like I'm not well informed.

What, if any, are the responsibilities or obligations of a church? What is the church as a whole supposed to do?

Is the church and it's members required to spread information about Jesus and try to gain more members? Should the church go out of it's way to help it's members? I'm very interested to hear anyone's answers on this.

Thank you.

Welcome to CC, Rick! These are good questions for the Bible Discussion Forum. Perhaps if you post them there you'll get more responses. This forum is primarily for introductions. :)

Church elders and pastors are responsible for shepherding their flock. Biblical teaching and looking after the spiritual needs of those who seek fellowship with them fall naturally under this heading. The church body, the members, care for one another as well. We do what we can to bear each others' burdens. Loving someone can be as simple as smiling at them and giving them a hug and listening to them, or helping them move, or any number of other services we are capable of providing to them in a time of need. My church has community groups that meet on a regular basis, where we study the weekly teaching more in depth and pray for each other, as well as a weekly prayer groups and other things that are announced during our weekly time together each Sunday. Baptisms are coming up soon. Good Friday we will hold our service at a larger location where our sister church can join us in worship.

Welcome to CC and glad to meet you. I have 2 Churches, one online and the other 5 miles away. The local Church has many opportunities for joining different small ministry groups, volunteering and also a page for contacting the staff with any inquiries. A good Church should have a way to minister to anyone needing guidance. Hope to see you around the forums, God bless.

Hello Rick, and welcome! I suggest going to a church to find out for yourself.
