Resetting the mind

How do we set our mind on heavenly things rather than earthly things? What does this mean to you?

Let me just throw out some thoughts that come to mind. I look forward to seeing what others say...

Reading the word..
Constantly looking for Christ in every situation, being grateful for Him and all that He does for us.
Praying and pray more.
When I am in nature (earthly thing), I always think of our creator.
Listening to gospel music
Spend time with Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
Being a blessing rather than seeking to be blessed.

What about you?

I think it is ok have to have other healthy desires of the heart, but when I think about what thinking about heavenly things means to me, I think of Him being the greatest and most often pondered and wondered desire of my heart. Well, where I seek to be. There are days, when my focus is not where it should be, to be honest.

I think Charli pretty much hit the nail on the head. I would just add that I think we have to be deliberate in these practices and in avoiding things that detract us from heavenly things.

Look up instead of down?
In terms of gardening you might look at the weather in the sky and clouds instead of just whats growing in front of you.
In terms of people you think of their soul and their fruits rather than their outward appearance.
Look forward instead of back.
If you reading it will be reading scripture or christian literature instead of novels and worldly entertainment. The good news (gospel) instead of bad news. (Whatevers on cnn)
Being thankful of what you have instead of complaining what you lack


The last one is a difficult one for me because satan had done such a job stealing everything in my former life that I lacked all the blessings christians who'd been walking with the Lord for years or grew up in church or chiristian families seem to take for granted. But then I remember Jesus came that I might have life and life more abundantly. So I am thankful to receive what Hes showing me.

Would you believe I had to go back to primary school to learn what I never learned with the Bible! He sent me back there. I was like a disciple in disguise lol. I was helping the bible teachers but I really learned the basics from all the lessons they taught.

I believe that man would not set their minds on heavenly things unless GOD has first made their spirit perfect unto good works.

For me I think it is about having the right focus and perspective. It is about having your sights for eternity and the things of value and not just living for self and doing your own thing. Paul seemed to do this setting the mind right often times. He was constantly talking about Jesus, he trusted in God, he found things to be happy about when in persecution.

I agree about it meaning good to pray, read the bible, get out in nature and listen to music. That can help. I think oftentimes one can do these things and later in the day get caught up in other things like worries, conflicts, the issues going on in our nation and around the world etc. So much negativity in the world and hatred but one day God will bring about justice, put a stop to the evils and make things right again.

The mind I believe can be like a radio station at times. Sometimes the signal may be really good and it is positive and clear. Other times we may find ourselves getting distracted with what really matters and we can get thoughts here and there that are not so godly. Kinda like background static or another station trying to play at the same time, but we can only focus on one way of thinking or other at a time.

I know I have some talents like singing and drawing and I may be able to use these talents to focus on what is lovely and good and beautiful.

Man is a dichotomy. He is an eternal soul whose focus is to achieve oneness with our Creator. Yet, we are trapped in these fleshy vessels with programming for survival. Society has capitalized (literally) on our pleasure/pain response and have caused us to seek pleasure, therefore strengthening the carnality in man. We are slaves to the chemical reactions in our brains and have become deaf to the still small voice that communicates from on high. The way to hear the voice and achieve oneness is to “slay” the flesh. There is a different reaction when someone is being starved compared to someone fasting to hear God. Christ basically starved Himself to death in the wilderness, ignoring the body’s most basic need. It was after this His ministry started with signs and wonders. If you notice, God’s people go through cycles. They seek and hear Him when they are not enjoying life. Their flesh is weak (unpleasured) so their spirit can be dominant. This is also the reason it is difficult for a rich man to enter the kingdom. His flesh is addicted to the pleasures of life, and can’t hear the Lord.

When we become saved, we sign over the ownership of this “vehicle” to the Lord. It is no longer ours to pamper and pleasure. It becomes a work vehicle. This is how to be Heavenly minded, by not overfeeding the flesh.

i nearly have my mind constantly on christ except when i am playing games then i am in that world but only for a little while, the more your relationship grows the more time u spend thinking of him. i regard Jesus as my father because i am saved by him.

By spending more time thinking about the teachings of God and ways of loving others rather then spending time thinking about money politics and the garbage that's served up to us as entertainment each day..

What I want to know is: What is having mind set on Christ almost all the time @noblenut ?

Instead of thinking "I wanna drink a smoothie." are your thoughts "Christ, Christ Christ" ? How does this play out in practical living? Or does it mean you are thinking about bible verses, thinking about what Jesus is like (or was like in His earthly ministry)?

JESUS Is the vine and we are the branches(members of the body)receiving sustenance from the vine and displaying spiritual fruit and this spiritual fruit should be seen by those who want what we have and a reassuring comfort to those who are already members of the body of CHRIST.

One thing it means it teaches us we do have a God of comfort. Who knor t only teaches us all things but also is the spirit that works in us to bring the things he has taught us to our remembrance humbling us not to harden our hearts in false pride. therefore His witness to our new spirits we are children of God.

I have read that verse below many times before but lately, the "and" in he work to bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever he said to us. It had been lifting itself up as a reminder as to where our help comes from and can strengthen the believer to do the good will..

John 14:26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, "and" bring "all things" to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Romans 8:16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Thanks for the verses. I especially like the one about my help coming from God. When God is your help, you are all ready come what may.

In 2019, how we are seen from others should not override how we are seen by God. People may not be able to know your deep secrets that you keep concealed but when you are a true believer, nothing is hidden and the only one left who you are fooling is yep, yourself.

Some good advice that I saw online came from people who were dying...It said what their biggest regrets in life were.

Here is the #1 regret:
1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
