YIKES!

Lawyers for California also argued that allowing certain inmates to be paroled early would deplete a program that allowed prisons to fight wildfires.

Ordered to reduce the population of California’s overcrowded prisons, lawyers from then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris’s office made the case that some non-violent offenders needed to stay incarcerated or else the prison system would lose a source of cheap labor.

Doesn't this policy, of keeping men in prison (beyond the time that they would have otherwise been released) so that they can be used as a cheap labor force, amount to a type of modern day system of slavery?

we say, if you do the crime, then you have to pay the price - if it were us, we would feel priviledged to be able
to help out others in distress, 'especially if we could leave our 'cells' and get out there and remember what
freedom feels like...

To be fair, she wasn't arguing that people should be held beyond their judge issued sentence; she was arguing against early release to relieve prison over crowding.

That may be true, but the 'reason' she was argued against their early release was the same, she didn't want California to lose its cheap labor force.

Hey, at least they chose to pay the inmates who fought the California wildfires. $2/hour isn't much for risking your life, but I guess it's better than nothing.

I think the leftists really need to be held accountable for this kind of reasoning...
it really shows their duplicity and callousness.

If dems had their way in cali, the prisons would be empty. I'm surprised she is trying to keep them in. And I do believe most of the firefighters that fight the brush fires here are not inmates. It takes a lot of training and practice even though they just seem to be digging ditches and stuff.

What I find funny is that she said that as a desperate attempt to gain that communities vote. I saw a thread on the hip hop community sub on Reddit about this, basically everyone in the hip hop community hates her. She's just another cop imprisoning weed smokers, now she says this in an attempt to seem "cool". Like some there said, she's just another politician, they're all the same.
