Angels in literature

I have greatly enjoyed the writings of the Canadian/American writer Frank Peretti. I bought four of his books and two of them I read twice: This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness. The guy is a great suspense writer and has made so many people aware of the presence of Angels. In his voluminous books the Angels are fighting the demons but their battle runs kind of parallel with the battle between human beings, the battle between good and evil. The Angels can win only when there is a prayer basis. Not everybody would agree with that view on Angels but it can't hurt to see it like that.

Peretti is a great enemy of everything that may be related to the new age movement and I find also a lot of humour in his books.
If you think that you might profit from the awareness that God has helpers all around you, you might do wise to read the two books mentioned.

In his other books there are no Angels. I wonder why he dropped them, since his books became popular because of them. Maybe he got tired of writing two novels in one: the humans and the Angels. Does someone know?

After the first two books I read Billy Grahams "Angels" and also the same title translated from the Italian work by journalist Paola Giovetti. Really great stuff all this.
But it is said that Angels must not be worshipped and should not replace the Holy Trinity in any way. Unfortunately, in the new age movement the approach is quite different.

This is quite true. There has been a huge movement to focus on angels instead of Christ in the New Age Movement.

Also their concept of "the Christ" is not the same as the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible. "The Christ was considered not a person but an impersonal Divine Nature or Principle. The Christ "incarnated" into Jesus, and three years later was crucified. At the crucifixion, the Christ left Jesus' body and "incarnated" into the etheric earth" .

I can't speak for Peretti's decisions for certain but I'd assume he changed it up because that's what writers do. Otherwise it becomes stale, unless you're purposefully writing a series.
He also seemed to have changed his focus to what could he seen as "Christian horror". If I recall one of his later books was made into a movie.
So, yeah, writers can't rely on the same tricks or people get bored.
Also I "think" Prophet kept a similar style as the two Darkness novels. You'd have to double check as it's been over 10 years since I've read it.

Yes, @Subhumanoidal, the style and theme in Prophet are similar to the other two. I enjoyed Prophet also, even without Angels.

Angels are simply ministering spirits of God as the blessing of God or lying spirits as messenger of the father of lies as a curse that works to make the blessing of God without effect.. Human messengers work the same way. They can bring the spirit of truth as it is written or that of the evil one as oral traditions of men .

I read one of his...but I think Revelation actually tells it better about the war on heaven and it does talk about the angels bearing incense which is the prayers of the saints. See revelation 8:3-4

But I do think if someone had never read Revelation before it might be new to them.
I used to read Anne Rice who wrote books about vampires and witches and other paranormal subjects, then she gave that up and started writing about angels and Jesus as well. She was catholic though...dont know if she still is as heard she broke from the RCC.

I dont read much horror anymore although for some people hungry for the supernatural its a popular genre and I suppose it gets them thinking about the afterlife and good and evil. Hence popularity amongst teens with vampire series such as Twilight, and before that, Harry Potter.

I always think well if Harry Potter forgave and let of of the need to avenge his parents death all that drama would not have been needed. He could have just prayed to God almighty instead of relying on his own limited magic powers. But no...he gets into divination and sorcery instead, takes matters into his own hands and ends up just being as bad as voldemort. Oh but hes the good guy. Right. And this drags on for about nine or so books of teenage angst over being a wizard.
