Which of these two would you say has a more biblical approach to medicine?

I ask because our long time doctor, an MD, is retiring and most of our choices are no longer MDs but DOs. This DO is new to me but supposedly that approach takes a 'holistic' approach to medicine compared to the traditional MD.

Any info, facts, tips or experiences would be helpful.

If you are blessed to be able to go for care as I am with SS, all I could suggest is putting yourself in the care of God, which I believe you already have done.

They say Luke was a doctor. I know in the Word i see two particular topical medications of Biblical pas which are wine and olive oil rubbed on and into wounds. I suppose salt is from those days also….

I go for certain procedures for my vision on a regular basis, and though I do not see any improvement it does slow down my vision loss some. I have even mentioned to my doctor that if the procedures do nothing I do not mind discontinuing them, but she said it slows down the advacing losses of vsion.

I do not seek care for other probems much. Forgive my making this about me, but my own experience an the Word, actually the Word first are all I can rely upon.

YOu are in my prayers for guidance from where it truly counts….

The VA has begun to implement their treatment with this whole person approach. Reading about the Osteopathic Doctors, it seems they practice in every Medical Specialty, and that would differ from the VA in that the VA PC still refers their patient to the various Specialists within the System. They do, however, go at it from the "whole person" approach. But I am cautious of this......especially with the VA.

Here is a Site that may give you some info:

Oddly, Wikipedia has a good Article on Allopathic........

https://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=Awr...medicine/RK=2/RS=CrZ7mRF6bhhbbgWm7QeUhszsyC8-

After a quick read of both..........I see how the VA appears to mix the two.....which is strange.....or, maybe not :)

Personally, I want an MD as a PC, and if I have a problem that requires a Specialists, I want to see someone who has dedicated their Practice to that particular problem. Not someone who has partial knowledge of various problems............. But, that's just me

I have wet macular degeneration. I went to the VA in Chicago once and an attendant or nurse, I do not know which, told me it was probably AIDS as though it was a sure thing. There was no reason for me to have contracted such a things, and my problem had been diagnosed already by various M:D:'s.

I did not return to them for the lack of training and understanding I had to endure. Now I did use the emergency services by telephone on one occasion after this and whoever was on the other end of the line was fantastic giving me home care instructions to the letter which worked totally. I was going into shock from an allergy,.

It is certain there are wonderful people with the VA, but as long as I have alternatives, I will not be going back, God be willing.

Another angle I see is that the DOs seem to see the bones and muscles as the root of many problems whereas the MDs look more at the blood (which to me seems a bit more biblical) as the source of many ailments.

Has anyone had experience with both kinds as a real world comparison?
Hi crossnote, I was thrust into the medical world in February 2012, almost 7yrs ago, when I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, caused by agent orange in Vietnam 1969-1970, US Army.

Today I receive cancer treatments at a well known cancer hospital in So. Cal. I am currently receiving chemo for PC, (prostate cancer). My experience with doctors is both in specialty, Oncologist, and my primary care has been with DO, MD, and Nurse Practitioner.

Overall if a person is in need of medical care I believe it will take "team work", to be on the road to healing. The first and foremost encouraging words I can give anyone is to walk closely to our Savior and He will direct your path.

Praise God, the Lord can and will heal the body and I will trust in Him when my time on earth is finished.

2 Kings 20:4-6
4Before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 5“Go back and tell Hezekiah, the leader of My people, ‘This is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. I will surely heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the house of the LORD. 6I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for My sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”

What is 'PC' in relation to the VA because you mentioned VA PC?
Primary Care Doctor

They are the Doctor you are assigned when you enter the Program, and they are in charge of all your health related issues.

Hi again crossnote, my answer to your post would be we need both a DO and an MD for proper health care.

God bless the Nurse Practitioner who also cares about my well being.

Well thanks. This though is mostly sofar for my wife and as far as a GP goes she must choose between a MD or DO. She has some serious issues like a brain aneurysm and advanced stages of osteosporosis. (But of course these are beyond the GPs realm).

Hi crossnote, I understand the health care is for your wife, "sofar", and so you are faced with choices and everything you mention here are serious issues.

I no longer see a DO because he was replaced by a Nurse Practitioner. The DO was in tune and very competent with medical issues but the Nurse Practitioner exceeds any previous DO or MD that I have ever encountered. So the persons tittle means little if they happen to be incompetent.

I have advanced osteoporosis due to lack of testosterone which is required to fight prostate cancer; my testosterone is castrate level, which brings on osteoporosis big time. The treatment for the onset of osteoporosis due to pc cancer treatment is, "bisphosphonate infusion" "Look it up"

It is the recommended treatment "for men" who undergo hormonal blockade for the treatment of prostate cancer, very common. "anti-androgen" or "anti-hormonal treatments, will stop the production of male hormone which feeds prostate cancer and so you starve the cancer to death. However the side affect is the early onset of "male osteoporosis." and the commonly recommended treatment is, "bisphosphonte infusion."

So can this treatment help your wife with osteoporosis? Read about bisphosphonate for women with osteoporosis it has been in use to fight this illness from before the 1950's. The treatment for women came in a pill form but the bisphosphonte infusion that I receive is a thousand times stronger. So as you can see this treatment would require some research.

My wife and I were retired and living in Thailand when I received the PC diagnosis. To receive better cancer treatments we returned to the USA and are now living and attend a local Church in the High Desert north of Los Angeles.

Pastor John Piper has prostate cancer and he wrote an article about fighting cancer called; "Don't waste your cancer." I read this some years ago but I found it has been a help even up to this day. This may be a help to you if you like or maybe no, sorry if this post was a little too long winded...:)

God bless!

@TruthTalk , my wife was offered some type of phosphate treatment but after looking into it, she decided to go the estrogen (plus some type of complement drug) route even though there supposedly is a cancer danger that way as well.

Very interesting about the nurse practitioner. :)

Cross, hub and I are so very sorry to hear about your precious wife and her health issues -
as far as 'our experiences up until today', concerning 'DO's & NP's' for me, wife, my DO is concerned,
he is only a 'referral' prescription service - he has a NP, I saw her ONE time, and all she wanted me to do
was go from physician to physician, TEST to TEST, I had already had enough of that and declined, as there was
NEVER any acceptable treatment that we both, hub and knew would help me.,. -

as of now, I have reduced my meds 99%, I'm almost totally on life-healing foods/herbs, and they are working...
of course this has been a very long journey of Trust and Listening and Obeying God's promptings -
never knew how just invested and hard-headed I WAS...'Never to Late to Learn and Grow'...

sorry, but am somewhat 'disappointed' that you weren't even interested enough
by our reply to inquire as to how we 'both' have over-come so many maladys and
are now living and breathing a hundred-fold better life by the Grace of our Holy God...

Sorry. I did read your post and gave it a 'thumb's up'.
I thought you did say how you overcame...

I just know that each person's case is different and bodies react differently. Example: I've avoided health foods for the last 45 years and have never spent a night in the hospital nor am I on any meds.
i was pretty much wanting to know the difference between a DO and an MD for my wife's sake, that's all ;)
