Anyone else grow up attending Christian youth camps -- praying around the altar with friends, going out for pizza with the youth groups from their churches, attending all night lock-ins and youth retreats (or "rallies")? Anyone else attend Icthus or the like? SO MANY good memories of my formative years in the faith. <3 And (almost) all enjoyed with the backdrop of the Christian music of that time. Degarmo and Key. Farrell & Farrell. Amy Grant. Sandi Patti. Truth. Randy Stonehill. I remember getting to that point in the wee hours of the morning at the all night skating lock-ins where I was ready to drop, then Trumpet of Jesus (Imperials) would play and I would get a second wind like no other. I felt like I could fly after that (and yes, it was as much because of the lyrics and meaning as it was being pumped by the song itself.) Anyone relate?

And David Meece. How could I have forgotten DAVID MEECE??!!?! lol (Really there were SO MANY good songs, artists, and styles of Christian music coming out back then. For me the hardest part is limiting myself to how much I share!! ;) )

I guess it's kind of sad ( ;) ) when you get so excited about your topic that you blow up your own post?!?! LOL (oops? LOL) Just SO SO much good music from then and now. Really hoping to find others with similar memories and loves of Christian music. Here's some classic DeGarmo and Key while I wait... :p

Oooooh Gracie.... I LIKEEEE!!! :D I hadn't heard the first two artists that you shared until now, but I LOVE For King & Country! I'd heard that they have a new album out but hadn't heard any of it yet-- and REALLY loved the song of theirs that you shared, as well as the others! Will have to make it a point to check out more of their music. I'm a very eclectic person (in music as well as many other areas). I can't say that rap and hip hop are my strongest areas of like but I don't knock them because 1) I know that they reach a lot of people and I love that there are Christian artists who are sharing a positive message and God's truths with these genres and 2) I do come across individual songs that I like very much even though they aren't my first choices of styles. Have you ever heard of Propaganda (the artist)? He uses spoken word/rap in it's truest sense. Listening to him always makes me think of the Poetry Slams. Anyway, not sure if you know of him or are into that sort of thing but here's one of his videos that you can check out if you're interested. He has a great way with words. Hope you enjoy, or at the very least appreciate. :)

hahaha I know, right? LOL duh!! I was editing to include it bc I got excited and posted before I had typed it in! LOL ... ANYWAY... THIS >>> was what I said >>> lol

I had not heard either song before, but liked them both! (Tell Your Heart to Beat Again has been my favorite Danny Gokey song so far). <3 And yes, I totally agree, there are many amazing Christian artists whose music is very worshipful and that God is using to reach many hearts either to draw them, draw them closer, or strengthen them. Ok, have still been listening to the Masterpiece song. Wow. I've liked all that you've shared but that one really hits me where I am right now especially. Thank you so much for sharing all of these! :) Oh! And SO GLAD that you like Propaganda!! That's so cool!! :D

LOL @ my being eccentric! LOL you already know me --for real! hahaha And yes, music is my treasure chest also! And I cry when I listen to that Danny Gokey song, too. It just reaches deeply into the raw and wounded places in my heart and soul. You know, you'd think that a healing balm or salve would feel good but it actually hurts to be healed. The only way to be truly healed is first for whatever is infected or wounded to be cleaned out (cleansed) and then the medicine (salve or ointment) to be applied to the open wound to keep it from getting reinfected. Seems like when it's spiritual or part of our humanness (not in a physical sense in this regard) that God likes to just get right down in there where it hurts the worst, which makes sense bc He wants to reach every part of us to bring His healing...but ow ow owwwww sometimes! I went through a time when I HATED going to church-- not bc I didn't want to be there, but bc I was embarrassed bc all I did was cry through the services. My heart was so broken and wounded (by things that had happened in life) that it hurt even for God to touch those places in me. BUT.. so glad that He did!!

Anyway, wow.. shared much more than I'd intended. Hopefully it wasn't just rambling. I've been going through a difficult parting recently and God has used music to minister to my heart again in such a beautiful and encouraging way. I am so thankful that He is with us and speaks through so many avenues when we need a reminder or a touch from Him. I have noticed that there have been posts and a lot of controversy about Lauren Daigle. I, honestly, think that's so sad because none of us are above harsh criticism (or being called hypocrites) if someone wants to try to tear us down... and when people are in the limelight it also paints a target on them that seems to draw people to try to shoot them down. Sad. Sad and wrong. Whatever the answers are to the shots being fired at her, I do know that her music has reached and touched many hearts -- even in the mainstream, for which we should all be thankful. I LOVE her music, and it really touches my heart-- and much, if not all of it, really lifts me to worship. Not sure if you know her stuff, but she has some really awesome songs. I also like Mandisa, Jamie Grace, TobyMac... anyone who has a message that is based in God's truth. (Sorry this is so long. I hope you aren't put off by it. The way the site is set up there isn't a good way to have a deep conversation -- that gets long-- besides this, until you do drop the money for the ability to use private messages. I'm not bothered about it though bc maybe someone else needs to read this too? And, if it's too long and someone doesn't want to then fine, they can just skip it. :D

I hope that I didn't overwhelm you by talking too much on that last post. I guess I got a bit too excited about our conversation. I hope that won't scare you away, though. (Btw, I REALLY enjoyed our conversation.. thank you :) And I've gone back and listened to Burn the Ships a couple of more times already tonight. Thanks again for sharing it!! )

Good songs. I've never heard them before but really enjoyed them. I'm from a small town in KY. It's a little behind the times so I grew up listening to things like Let's all go down to the river and Me and Jesus.... this was in the late 80s and 90s but we're so far behind the times here those songs probably actually came out in the 50s and 60s.....LOL
