I hate the narrative that exercising your first amendment rights to protest means you don't love your country. That's absolutely absurd.
Jehovah's Witnesses don't stand for the anthem either because they Call it idolatry. Actually I'm inclined to agree with them there.
Actually I was discussing this with a buddy of mine who served in Afghanistan and he said if you think people should be forced to stand for the anthem then you don't understand what Freedom means
Ya, I agree, I don't like the idea of 'forcing people to stand' either...

Albiet, it saddens me to see middle school kids not standing during the national anthem...
I'm also not a believer that people 'don't love their country' just because they choose t exercise their right to protest...
(this wasn't mentioned here either)...
My silver lining remedy for dealing with people who do not understand how offensive their actions are to veterans and their families is simply to tune them out:
I've exercised my right to NOT watch a single regular season NFL game over the past three years... Instead I've found other more productive/fruitful ways of spending my time and money...
